Sweet Retreat - Bumpass, VA

Had an amazing time staying at this home in Bumpass VA. The house was beautiful and the backyard was absolutely gorgeous. We very much enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this place to friends and family in the future. The staff was very responsive and helpful during our stay. We did have trouble with the washing machine, however, we were able to make it work.

Clean, cute, comfy! The basement has beanbag chairs and Wii U. There’s a porch swing, a crib in the master, and plenty of wine glasses! We came for Thanksgiving break, but we’d love to come back when it’s warmer and enjoy the dock and beach (complete with sand toys!)

This home is exactly as advertised. Clean with ample space for my family of five. Having a beach is great and the pier was beautiful. My family loved swimming and fishing. We caught sunnys crappies and catfish right from the dock and saw some bass but weren’t able to catch any. The house was located on a really quiet section of the lake where we just floated the week away. We only saw maybe 5 boats each day. Also really cool to see a lot of wildlife. The skies were filled with egrets herons hawks and even a bald eagle. Had a really nice time.

Overall the property is beautiful! They have a lovely deck, we had no kids but very kid friendly home. The downside to this property is the outdated kitchen and appliances + zero internet the entire stay. The property managers were especially awful originally they were super responsive. But after checking in I would recieve little to no response on questions and concerns I had while staying here. The internet did not work the entire stay. When I asked the property managers they told me to reset it and couldn’t respond which router was for the internet. I get a text from another property manager saying someone will come by to check on the issue. No one ever stopped by to check on the issue. When I followed up on this multiple times no one replied. This resulted in me missing work conferences that made me loss compensation. As the property is advertised as having internet.

Overall, this is a great house and we had a great experience. The house was clean and the view is amazing. The seven of us from two families have stayed at a lot of vacation rentals over the years and we know there is always something with all rentals, but this one had just enough minor issues to warrant 4 stars instead of 5.
Most of the issues are (I suspect) temporary and if we'd been staying longer than two days, we would have had maintenance come in (Vacasa was very easy to work with!) but we just wanted to enjoy the two days rather than worry about maintenance coming and going.
The issues that were a bit more problematic and not fixable by maintenance is that the bedding arrangement listed is not what was in place - there is no queen bed, it is instead two single beds so that was a bit surprising for the second couple, but we worked around it. There were also two boat trailers on the property that were just sort of haphazardly left there, as well as a number of home improvement supplies (paint cans, rollers) left in various places. Minor repairs are likely needed and I suspect they are in the middle of improving this further so again, for two days, it wasn't a big deal.
Once those are addressed, I suspect this could EASILY be a 5-star property. It has fantastic views, the house was really clean and while the kitchen is small, we were able to find a way to make it work without too much issue and it definitely helped prevent the "too many cooks!" issue! So that might actually be a good thing. :)
I think that a general clean up of some of the items that the owner likely leaves around for convenience would make it feel a bit more welcoming to renters, but honestly, we had a great time, loved the calm, mostly private swimming area, beautiful views (did I mention the view? It's got a beautiful view) and the highly important part that the house itself felt clean.
So as long as the different bedding arrangement works for your group, this is a really great rental, especially with a few minor clean-ups of extraneous items.
