Make Long Beach your next getaway

Long Beach is the quieter side of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, where harbor walks, Main Street browsing, and beach time can shape the day without a packed schedule. Start with Long Beach Harbor and Friendship Oak, then use the scenic byway to keep Gulfport, Biloxi, and Ocean Springs outings clearly separate from the in-town stay.

This was our 2nd year going to this Rental. We enjoyed it so much last year that we knew we were coming back this year. We loved the addition of the grill, outside furniture, and large umbrella. The pop was very clean and we enjoyed it all weekend.

I stayed at this amazing property in Aug 2025. It is breathtaking. The home is exactly what you see and more. The beach is right across the street, and the property is to die for. The extra-large front porch is amazing to sit and watch the sun set and rise as the sun sparkles off the waves. This is the place to be on the Gulf Coast. My #1 destination stay when I visit the Gulf Coast again. Book it Book You will not be disappointed. Very happy traveler.

Plan your Long Beach getaway

Long Beach vacation rentals work well for travelers who want a relaxed Gulf Coast base with beach time, harbor views, downtown browsing, and easy access to larger coastal attractions nearby. Families, couples, and groups can plan around Long Beach Harbor, Friendship Oak, Downtown Long Beach Main Street, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast Scenic Byway before saving Gulfport, Biloxi, or Ocean Springs for day trips.

As you compare homes, think about whether you want to stay near the beach, close to the harbor, near downtown, or in a quieter setting with space to unwind after a day out. Each home is unique, so review listing details for parking, kitchens, pet policies, WiFi, laundry, outdoor space, beach gear, and seasonal details before you book.

Things to do in Long Beach

Looking for things to do in Long Beach, MS? Start with the town’s Gulf-facing harbor, historic campus landmark, and walkable downtown, then use nearby Gulf Coast attractions as separate day trips when you want a bigger outing.

Long Beach Harbor

Long Beach Harbor gives the town its most immediate Gulf-facing gathering point, with boats, water views, and an easy setting for a relaxed walk before or after the beach. It works well for travelers who want coastal scenery without turning the day into a tightly scheduled itinerary.

Best for:

Friendship Oak

Friendship Oak is a massive live oak on the University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park campus and one of Long Beach’s signature historic landmarks. It’s a quick, memorable stop for families, history-minded travelers, and anyone building a low-key day around the beachfront and campus area.

Best for:

Downtown Long Beach Main Street

Downtown Long Beach Main Street is the town’s walkable district for local shops, cafes, community events, and the small-town side of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Use it when you want to park once, browse locally, and pair a casual meal with an easy in-town outing.

Best for:

Mississippi Gulf Coast Scenic Byway

The Mississippi Gulf Coast Scenic Byway links Long Beach with nearby coastal towns and shoreline stops. It’s the simplest way to turn a beach stay into a scenic drive while keeping Gulfport, Biloxi, and Pass Christian framed as nearby places rather than part of Long Beach itself.

Where to eat in Long Beach

Long Beach dining is best planned around downtown and the harbor area. Downtown Main Street works well for local cafes, casual restaurants, shops, and community-centered meals, while the harbor and beachfront area keeps seafood, water-view dining, and relaxed Gulf Coast meals close to the shoreline.

If you prefer easy meals at your rental, check each listing for kitchen setup, dining space, outdoor seating, grill details, and parking. Features vary by home, so confirm the setup that matters most before booking.

Steve’s Marina Restaurant

Steve’s Marina Restaurant is a Long Beach seafood restaurant near the harbor, built around the kind of Gulf Coast meal travelers look for when they want the water to feel close by. It’s a strong named pick for visitors who want dinner or lunch tied to the harbor and beachfront side of town.

Long Beach Market and Deli

Long Beach Market and Deli is a casual local stop for sandwiches, po-boys, and easygoing lunch. It works well between beach time, downtown shopping, or a drive along the coast when you want something local and low-commitment.

Long Beach local tips

Day trips from Long Beach

Long Beach makes a practical Mississippi Gulf Coast base for aquariums, barrier islands, bayou landscapes, museums, and historic sites. Plan these as separate half-day or full-day outings, and check current hours, ferry details, tickets, weather, and access information before you go.

Mississippi Aquarium

Mississippi Aquarium in nearby Gulfport is a major regional attraction focused on aquatic habitats and wildlife. It’s one of the easiest family-friendly day trips from Long Beach when your group wants a structured activity away from the beach.

Ship Island

Ship Island is a Gulf Islands National Seashore barrier-island destination with undeveloped beaches, Gulf water, and a more remote coastal feel. Treat it as a separate excursion rather than a casual extension of the Long Beach beachfront.

Davis Bayou Area, Gulf Islands National Seashore

The Davis Bayou Area in Ocean Springs shows the bayou side of Gulf Islands National Seashore, with trails, water access, and a quieter natural landscape than the beachfront towns. It’s a strong nature-focused day trip when you want a different coastal setting.

Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art

Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art in Biloxi pairs Mississippi Gulf Coast art with striking architecture and a focus on ceramic artist George E. Ohr. It works well as an indoor cultural outing or a break from beach-heavy days.

Beauvoir

Beauvoir in Biloxi is a historic estate and museum tied to Jefferson Davis and Gulf Coast history. Plan it as a history-focused regional stop that belongs outside the Long Beach core itinerary.
