Stars upon stars upon stars! Amazing stay at Glen Elk Lodge over the holiday! Warm, well-appointed, great space with plenty of room to cook, spread out, and socialize. Decorated beautifully for Christmas and the dual fireplace was the ultimate gathering place after a day of skiing. Cannot wait to return.

Over the past 4 years, his is the best rental we have ever experienced in Pagosa Springs. The house was extremely clean and the photos of the property were accurate and up-to-date. The property was quiet and secluded yet only a few minutes from Pagosa. House was built with high-end finishes and materials. Beds were very comfortable. Light switches were labeled and easy to use. Gas fireplaces were also easy to use and provided a nice warm-up in the mornings. Had a small problem with the oven fan but that was quickly fixed by Vacasa. Ice maker in the bar was very useful and appreciated. The bath at the top of the stairs seemed to drain slowly. Wasn't a problem but someone may want to take a look at it. Overall, an excellent rental. Highly recommend. Will stay there again when in Pagosa.
Many thanks to the Owners and Vacasa.

The home is spacious with indoor and outdoor options for leisure and enjoyment. We dined outside on the deck every day for our lunches and dinners. We loved the swing on the back of the property overlooking the valley. We enjoyed time around the fire pit with the kiddos. We set up and took naps in the hammock we brought along and hung up between two of the many trees on the property. There were deer everyday wandering the property. There were hummingbirds and other wildlife to sit and enjoy.

What a great place to have intentional time away from the hurried pace of life!

The best home in Pagosa Springs! This home is immaculate. The deck and views are amazing.

This was our first time staying at Glen Elk Lodge and while it was absolutely a beautiful location, we won't be returning because of very poor customer service that basically ruined our vacation.

PROS:
- Secluded, serene location, but very close to the convenience of town
- Beautiful outdoor space with plenty of deer
- The house is very well stocked with everything you could think of in the kitchen - ample dishes including an entire cabinet of plastic dishes for kids
- Spices, oil, foil, ziplocs, tupperware, laundry soap, etc. have all been thought of
- Clean and well kept
- Comfortable beds and pillows

CONS:
- Poor customer service.
- Daily interactions with property management as described below for broken AC, broken oven, broken fireplace:
We arrived on a Thursday in June and reported that the AC for the main living area and upstairs was not working. The master unit downstairs was working, and it was nice and cool.
The kitchen/living room was 80-82 deg (I have pics of the thermostat), and bedrooms upstairs were in the high 80s despite windows open and fans blowing (ceiling fans are in only 2 of 3 rooms upstairs and hardly move, but they had 2 floor fans for 3 bedrooms). It does cool down very late at night, but definitely not by bedtime for five year olds. As a result we had 4 children who couldn't sleep in the heat, and we wound up with kids in our cooled master bedroom which was NOT what we wanted on vacation. The two adults upstairs tolerated it, but it wasn't pleasant.
The property manager came Friday and verified it wasn't working but did not bring an AC person.
I texted again SATURDAY (day 3) after a very miserable night with the kids. He said they would send someone MONDAY, which I protested, but he told me they could not get someone sooner (I'm sure they would have to pay a premium, which at the cost per night of this location, I would expect). They told us to open the windows (we had already done this), but there were also huge thunderstorms rolling through which thankfully brought temps down a little, but it was fairly obnoxious to be running around opening and closing crank windows all day and night as rain came and went.
An AC person FINALLY arrived on TUESDAY (day 6 of our vacation), and was in and out of the house making repairs and putting in a new thermostat, so at mid-day on Tuesday we finally had air conditioning for ONE night so we could check out on Wednesday morning.

- the oven did not work on Friday (day 2), also reported immediately. It would turn on for a few minutes, then turn itself off and display an error message (also have photos that we sent to property manager who confirmed they had issues with this appliance in the past). We tried multiple times to get it to work, use the bottom oven instead (same problem), but ultimately the roast we had was half cooked, my husband abandoned the oven and took it outside to the small grill to finish it off. Our potatoes we finished off on the stove.... it made for a late and not quite as fun dinner.
Our chocolate chip cookies went unbaked and we had to re-plan all our meals, including Father's day dinner to just make pasta. Not life-ending, but extremely disappointing for a place that is supposed to be luxury.

- Early Monday (day 5) it was a cool, early morning so I went to use the big, beautiful fireplace in the living room, which is a gas fire, but works by remote (Heat & Glo). The remote wasn't consistently working, which we also reported and actually took the time to look at all the You-tube videos on the manufacturer website, that said the problem was something that needed a dealer to look at. Tuesday morning the fireplace started turning on and off BY ITSELF. This was witnessed by the AC guy who was there doing work (I asked him if he was familiar with them - he was not and recommended getting an expert involved) and we called the property manager yet again who said they would send someone in the next few days (!). The fire subsequently got stuck ON at the highest level so we had a raging fire in the fireplace (I have a picture of this also, with the remote saying it was OFF) so we called the manager yet AGAIN to say we didn't feel comfortable leaving the house with a safety problem - involving both electrical and fire - like this, so they agreed to send someone who had to shut off the main gasline because they could not get it to turn off properly either. This had us stuck at the house until well after lunchtime, ruining our plans for a morning hike and water fun.

We literally spent almost EVERY DAY of our vacation talking to the property management people and spent WAY too many hours of the vacation thinking about and dealing with all this nonsense. They never once offered to compensate us. I filed a complaint with Vacasa asking for compensation because I feel that while "things happen" - the amount of issues above and the impact it had on our trip was FAR in excess of what reasonable expectation would be. The house was advertised as offering all of these luxury amenities while NONE of them were working. I NEVER would have rented a house with no AC in the summer, but that is what we got despite paying a much higher price tag. The owner said they would offer ONE night refund (we stayed 6 nights) and it was probably from an electrical short that all of these issue arose. I said that was unreasonable, but despite my requesting her to reevaluate, that is all that she would offer.
I am also a homeowner, and I understand that things happen, but had they graciously offered to make it right we would have probably returned to this property over the years. The interactions over the week showing that profit is clearly prioritized over guest experience left a very bad taste in my mouth.

Manager response:
Thank you for your review, Jim. We are glad to hear you enjoyed the amenities and location of our gorgeous home. We sincerely apologize for any shortcomings in other areas of your stay and appreciate you allowing our local staff to step in and assist. We are pleased to report that our house manager and maintenance vendors have carefully addressed your concerns and worked to fully remedy each of them. The thermostat, oven, and fireplace are all up and running. Please know that we did our best to offer compensation and remedy the issues you encountered, and we hope that the compensation you received alleviated some of the stress you experienced. We look forward to hosting you for a more enjoyable stay in the future, thank you.

The Autumn colors were at their peak of glory during our stay in this fantastic property. Glen Elk Lodge is quintessential mountain luxury in a secluded setting yet with convenient access to the many attractions of Pagosa Springs and the San Juan mountains. After full days hiking to and exploring waterfalls, finding hidden valleys ablaze with Autumn colors and delightful dining at area restaurants we delighted in lounging by the firepits and fireplaces, reliving the blessings of being in this place. Glen Elk Lodge is a place we long to return to again and again as each season brings its own unique joys.

Gorgeous and well-kept home in a very secluded setting that is still close to the city.

My family of 7 really enjoyed our time at the house. There are more than enough areas to spread out as well as hang out. Would definitely stay here again.
Deborah S. Aug 2021
The home is in a semi wooded location with privacy. Wonderful deck for gathering with friends. Mattress comfort is huge and we were not disappointed. Loved that we could spread out since we were sharing with another couple.

We love going to Glen Elk Lodge. From the spacious rooms to the beautiful views, it’s such a great experience. The perfect getaway location.
Scott P. Jun 2021
My family enjoyed a long weekend at Glen Elk Lodge. Just hanging out on the patio was so relaxing, watching deer walk by and the clean fresh mountain air makes you feel refreshed. Nice distance between the homes so you feel like you have some space around you. Still close to town though too. Maybe a 15-minute drive to restaurants, shops, river, and hot springs. The house was beautiful and in a quiet neighborhood. Would love to come back someday.
Brandy P. Mar 2021
The house was beautiful and it’s location was pristine!! It was like looking at a beautiful paint each time we were outside or looked out any of the windows in the house. The house was well stocked with everything we needed to be comfortable. The town was very close and so were several activities that you can take part in. The owners were very friendly and accommodating as well.
The town people themselves were very friendly. Our family would definitely recommend this home for your next vacation to Pagosa Springs, CO. We’re definitely going to return!!

Pro’s: This home is beautiful and well kept. We had two children with us and they thoroughly enjoyed sledding in the abundance of snow around the house. Beds were very comfortable and rooms felt private from the rest of the house. Kitchen had all utensils but no condiments which was a little different than most homes I have stayed in - however this may be Covid related. Location to town was great, easy drive to the hot springs and Wolf Lodge.
Cons: the property management, Vacasa, is not one I would recommend doing business with. You are a number only and will not receive any personal focus to your situation. We first asked for a two hour early checkin, which was originally 4 pm. That was denied even though no one had been in the house for over a week before. Then, due to extreme bad weather from our origin location we requested to book a night early. That was allowed but at a cost of 150$ INCREASE to the original price, on a THURSDAY. 150 dollars more a night than it was for Friday, Saturday and Sunday is ridiculous, especially when all other dates following are not even that increased price. We were without a doubt taken advantage of. I understand business as I am a business owner myself, however I also can see through bad business such as this one. We mentioned our dissatisfaction to the owner but it was not taken as anything more than a comment. I will say the house was beautiful and I wish I did not have to express my discontent but in today’s society customer service matters.
Manager response:
Thank you for leaving your review with us, Heather. We are sorry to read our practices frustrated you in anyway. As a standard rule for all Vacasa homes during COVID, we are not allowing early check-ins or late check-outs. Thank you for understanding.

This house was amazing! The house was well stocked and had plenty of space for our family. The Christmas decorations were an unexpected surprise and made it extra special for a late December visit. The visitor notebook had great information and did not leave out any details. The living areas were cozy and the kitchen well stocked along with the dining hall. I wish I had more time to spend in the master, it was exquisite. The wrap around porches had plenty of seating and must be equally beautiful in the Spring and Summer. I can’t wait to return to this amazing home, thanks to Doyle and Nanci for opening their home to others!
Daniel R. Dec 2020
It was our second time at Glen Elk Lodge and we simply loved it and plan to return. It’s perfectly situated and accented to a be beautiful time away. Thank u once again to the Nanci and Doyle for an exceptional experience.

From the moment we walked in, everything was prefect! This home is absolutely stunning! Glen Elk Lodge is worth every bit of 5 stars & more!
Blake W. Oct 2020
You won’t be disappointed by choosing “Glen Elk Lodge” and the homeowners hospitality. All is exactly as it appears in the listing, and came with caring and repeated “check-ins” by our hosts that our visit was fine (it was; no issues whatsoever).

The home is set amongst pines on a large parcel with magnificent views of the mountains north and east, which were particularly enjoyable from the expansive deck. Our family (4 adults; 2 young kids) made habit of eating regularly outside and gathering into the evening around the deck’s gas fire pit. Ample room within the gathering spaces and individual rooms allowed us to relax and enjoy the week in comfort. Our 5-yr old loved the 3rd story “game” area and spent hours playing various games up there, including air hockey.

Proximity to Pagosa was easy and fairly quick, but be forewarned access to the home is by compacted dirt road. That adds a welcome element of mountain charm, but I can see a 4x4 as a likely recommendation in inclement weather or snow.

4th bedroom (full + twin) is connected via one of main 2nd-level bedrooms, but this was non-issue for us and kids sleeping arrangement.

We would definitely choose to stay again!
Manager response:
Hi Blake, thank you so much for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are so happy to hear that you had an enjoyable stay with your family. We would like to note that 4WD is definitely recommended during the winter months. This information is also detailed in the listing info above. We apologize for any confusion regarding this. We hope to have the opportunity to host you again soon!

Took my family of 5 to Pagosa Springs for Spring Break and would not stay anywhere else! House was big and nice and tucked away in mountain community with plenty of space and great views!
Loved the big kitchen stocked with everything we needed for cooking meals. Multiple fire places for evening game and/or movie night (owners had a great stash of DVD’s to watch). Kids loved the loft on the third floor to play air hockey and other games. My wife and I appreciated the spacious master bedroom with its own fireplace (starts with a remote) and we loved the master bath, (especially the shower!), complete with heated floors. Felt like the house had something for everyone...wine fridge and sauna for the adults and plastic snow sleds and air hockey for kids.
We loved how the owner called us during our trip to check on us and make sure everything was to our liking. We’ve rented a lot of houses on vrbo and not one time has an owner ever called just to welcome us and check on us.
No matter the season, we highly recommend staying here. You will LOVE it!!

Home had everything we could have hoped for and more. The firepit on the deck was great for s'mores. Our kids loved the air hockey and played for hours in the up stairs game room. We had a shrimp boil one evening and cooked on the grill and enjoyed the Colorado weather. It was super clean and the heated floor felt amazing. Looking forward to coming back. The Castor Family

available next year!

The home is located in a very beautiful area. About 5-10 away from the nearest hot spring, restaurants, and stores. It is well decorated and perfect for 3 families to live there simultaneously. One of the features was the heated garage of which we were able to use. I highly recommend this home and we will be staying here the next time we come back to Pagosa Springs. Thanks!!!
Laura S. Oct 2019
Glen Elk Lodge exceeds expectations! From the comfy patio chairs and gas fire pit to the very well stocked kitchen, we were completely at home and very relaxed. We hiked in the National Forest, explored the land around the home, ate at our favorite restaurants, chatted and played games. This is a very cozy inviting home. It had everything we needed, all the bells and whistles. We giggled everytime an appliance alerted us that a door was open or cycle completed. Each appliance has its own bell or whistle. We loved our visit and would enjoy staying again when in Pagosa.
mitch C. Sep 2019
Was a wonderful place. Had a great time.Only complaint is we wished we could have stayed longer. This has to be on your list in Pagosa # 1.
Maria W. Sep 2019
The house and property are in the top 2 we've ever visited. The home is beautiful and stocked with all the things you need. The patio and the views made it hard to "bust a move" (hiking, tubing, concerting) since it was so easy to kick back and relax right from the property.
LORI F. Jul 2019
The house is beautiful ! Nestled in among trees , we loved hanging out on the patio enjoying the serenity and peace. The house is very homey and has all the comforts you could ask for. We would definitely love to spend another vacation here !!
Kathy A. Jul 2019
This home is gorgeous! It is spacious with professional decor. So many high end amenities like a sauna and in floor vacuum system. The wrap-around porch provides the most spectacular views. And don’t miss the outdoor chair lift swing! My family was thrilled with our stay and hope to make it an annual trip! Don’t hesitate to stay here. You won’t be disappointed!! Very accommodating home owners. Our best experience ever!
Adam B. Jun 2019
I really do not know what to say! The home is spectacular! We loved the tremendous space, open floor plan, beautiful ambience/decorating, three outdoor fire pit options, the mountain/forest views, deer sightings from the deck, game room for the kids, labeled light switches for everything and so much more to mention! We will always look for this rental when opting to vacation in Pagosa Springs! Thank you for sharing your lovely home!
