Stunning waterfront home w/ a private hot tub, full kitchen, & three lanais!

Watch whales jump right outside! Mele Kohola means "Singing Whale" in Hawaiian and they will entertain you day and night (in season, of course, December-March). The waters in front of Mele Kohola are very deep, and the coastline is shaped in a gentle cove tempting the whales and dolphins to play very close to shore. Enjoy the unobstructed bi-coastal views from almost every room in the house including the front and back lanais. Once inside, you will see the pride and care taken in the classy, upscale, tropical decor, with lots of room for a large family but cozy enough for a romantic getaway. If you must work, there is an office provided for you with a roomy desk and high-speed internet access. The large back lanai has an outdoor table and barbecue, and there are two front lanais. Out front, you'll also find an oceanfront hot tub with views along the coastline. Yes, this is paradise!

You just can't beat this view! I gave this property a 4 only because it was advertised with a spa and there was one on the property, however it was clear that if had not worked in a while.
Manager response:
Hello Jim and Tammie, We apologize we have removed the hot tub as amenity from the home. We apologize for any frustrations or inconvenience this may have caused during your stay. We do hope you will allow us to host you again in the future.

We stayed at this property for seven nights and enjoyed every minute of it. The crashing of the waves on the cliff side put me to sleep at night. The ocean views are spectacular. Just about 15 minutes from Hilo to the North and Pahoa to the South makes this location very convenient when looking for a place to eat or for grocery shopping.
The home is located in a very nice neighborhood. We would love to go back again hopefully in the near future. Mahalo.

We had a wonderful time at Mele Kohala! The views are spectacular! It was a treat to sit on the lanai every morning and drink coffee! The house is only about a 20 minute drive to Hilo. It's incredibly quiet and peaceful, perfect vacation spot! The house is spacious and beds are very comfy! We are already planning our trip back!!

Our group of five spent three nights at Mele Kohola. Since this was my first experience using AirB&B I was not sure what to expect. Everything went very smoothly. The home was perfect for our group with enough bathrooms and bed rooms to comfortably accommodate our group. The kitchen was well equipped to cook a couple of meals for our group. The house is situated on the ocean and we were treated to pods of dolphins in the morning. We so enjoyed drinking our morning coffee and watching the show. We were also treated to visits from three Nēnēs in the morning. The sunrises were lovely. In spite of the pounding surf and constant influence of salt water the home was clean and everything worked. Some of the reviews I read talked about the musty smell. There is no airconditioning and the house is kept closed and locked for security. After we opened up the house it was filled with the wonderful smell of the ocean. We would definitely stay there again. Thank you to our hosts and to Lei.

Our family had a great time at the Mele Kohola house.Lots of space to spread out and not get under each others feet. The morning sunrises were different every morning. The neighborhood was very friendly as everyone would say hello during morning / evening walks. We would book this again.Thank You!!

We had a wonderful stay in this nice house for a very reasonable rate. The house was clean upon arrival and had everything we needed. It is directly oceanfront and the views were gorgeous from multiple rooms in the house. There was one night that the moon was shining and reflecting off the water that was one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen. Nice improvements such as large flat screen televisions on both floors, granite counter tops and new sinks. Since this is an oceanfront house, there is rust here and there, but overall the house is well kept. There are coqui frogs that whistle at night, but the ocean waves help drown it out. This area of the island is very laid back and not touristy. We liked that aspect and can't wait to return.
