When it comes to places on Maine's lovely southern coast
, you'll be hard-pressed to find a better home base than the Holiday House Condominiums! A charming atmosphere replete with amenities, a great location near several charming towns, and quick access to the region's stunning natural beauty ensure you'll come back year after year whenever you need some fresh air and relaxation.
Holiday House Amenities
While technically a motel, the cottages and cozy rooms of Holiday House feel more like full condos, complete with kitchenettes for preparing your own meals and the privacy you're used to at home. Each room offers quick access to the blue waters of the shared swimming pool, perfect for cooling off during the warm summer months.
Worked up an appetite from swimming? Head to the picnic tables and shared grills for a barbecue! The kids can run around on the grassy yard around the complex before digging into a freshly-grilled dish.
Wells and Other Nearby Towns
The humble seaside town of Wells
is only three-and-a-half miles to the north, and filled with gorgeous scenery to admire along the way thanks to the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve bordering the town to the east. Despite its close proximity to the marshy landscape of the reserve, the town has more than its fair share of cosmopolitan attractions, including the charming Shellback Artworks Gallery and delicious cuisine from a variety of restaurants. Joshua's boasts classic American fare in a breathtaking Revolutionary War-era home, while Aroma Joe's is the perfect place for a quick pick-me-up before hitting the road.
The bustling beach town of Ogunquit
is just over a mile to the south, with even more shops and restaurants to try. Treat yourself to a delicious seafood dinner at the Wild Blueberry before stopping by On the Main for a souvenir for some loved ones back home. Don't forget about catching a show at the historic Ogunquit Playhouse before heading back to your vacation rental for some well-deserved rest!
Beaches and Natural Beauty
Not feeling up for a drive? Don't worry - a seasonal trolley service provides quick, easy transit to and from all the nearby beaches, along with a few other natural wonders. Ogunquit Beach has soft sandy dunes and gently swaying patches of grass stretching over three miles of coastline, while Wells Beach to the north offers a long stretch of white sands and the occasional boat bobbing by. Footbridge Beach is a small rocky stretch of shore near the outflow of Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve.
On top of these beaches, Happy Houses' trolley offers trips to several other sites. The crashing waves and rocky cliffs of Perkins Cove is a quick journey south, with the stony shores of Marginal Way only a few minutes away. The trolley operates during the summer and autumn months, so be sure to check your calendars and get started on your New England adventure
