Freeport may not have the hustle and bustle of seaside cities like Galveston, but that doesn't make it any less perfect for a quick weekend out of town or a sleepy seaside getaway. With opportunities for fishing, camping, waterskiing, and more, plus a lovely atmosphere that'll have you forgetting your troubles in no time, our vacation rentals in this southern Texas town are perfect for your next getaway.
Popular Attractions in Town and on the Beach
Just 61 miles south of Houston's city sprawl, you'll notice Freeport's low-key atmosphere the second you arrive at your well-cared-for vacation rental. The town of 12,000 has a sense of seclusion from the world's problems, with the waters of the Brazos River flanking the town's calm streets, humble shops, and restaurants.
As you stroll south, breathe in the fresh ocean air of the Gulf of Mexico, which you can easily enjoy on the soft, sandy beach. Freeport allows far more access to its beaches than other towns do, making it great for camping - you can drive your car right onto the beach to set up your equipment, and sip on a cool, refreshing drink as you listen to the gentle rhythm of the waves.
And don't forget about golfing! The Wilderness Golf Course provides the perfect balance between a traditional golf course and cool, fresh breezes you can only enjoy close to the Gulf.
Water Activities in Freeport, TX
After spending a relaxing night by the shore, you'll be hard-pressed to stop the kids from jumping into the warm waters and splashing around. Adults shouldn't feel left out, though - even if you don't follow them in, Freeport has a wide variety of charters and agencies back in town to help you explore the town's incredible coastline.
The town's levee system provides a protected harbor, ideal for letting you try quick fishing trips. Plenty of charters offer open-water fishing boats if you have any desire to catch tuna or mahi-mahi. Even the river provides opportunities thanks to jet skis and water skiing trips! However you choose to spend your day, you'll be happy to return to a soft bed in your own private vacation rental.
Day Trips from Freeport, TX
Nature lovers visiting Freeport will be thrilled with the town's incredible location. Just to the east is the Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge, offering a plethora of birds, butterflies, and reptiles to admire in the marshes. To the west, meanwhile, is the San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge, which includes one of the largest tracts of old-growth forest in the entire south, let alone Texas.
If you're not feeling up to hikes and quiet contemplation surrounded by nature, don't fret - Galveston is only a 46-mile drive away. Take in the gorgeous surroundings of Galveston Island during the drive, and enjoy family-friendly attractions like the Schlitterbahn Waterpark, Pleasure Pier, and Moody Gardens once you arrive.
Texas is replete with amazing vacation experiences, from the unique quirks of Austin to the eco-tourism of South Padre Island. But there's nowhere quite like our vacation rentals in Freeport. Make sure you stop by sometime!
