We were being watched on video in both the front and back of the house. To me, this violates the expectation of privacy one has while renting a home and being on vacation, even if it slips by the actual VRBO policy. There's a video monitor on the desk in the master bedroom so you can see the camera views, but it's unnerving to realize the owner is watching. One day, I moved an umbrella that was laying across a large picnic table outside to the ground next to the table so that the family could sit there. Apparently, this spot was just out of view of the camera, and a man appeared as my son and I were leaving the house one afternoon. He identified himself as a neighbor from across the street, saying the owner had asked him if he could go around back and check out the umbrellas, because she thought one was missing. In another incident, one morning someone from the management company rang the doorbell! He said he wanted to go around back to check out an umbrella. We hadn't even realized it yet, but the one umbrella we used, properly secured in a table and base, had fallen over, and one must deduce that the owner, watching on video, promptly called the management company to come investigate. We hadn't even had a chance to look at it or report it yet. So you're good inside the unit, but once you step outside, you're being watched.
Regardless, the house is thoughtfully, cheerfully decorated, stocked with good cookware and tableware, all well organized, and overall a great home you will enjoy. TVs are new, large and plentiful, the mattress in the master is particularly comfortable, the Xfinity cable is awesome, the outdoor area in back is pleasant with lots of amenities, the furniture is comfortable, there are many artistic touches throughout we appreciated, and much more good stuff. The house's location is quiet, convenient to everything Bayside by car, and neighbors are friendly.
