The home and location were fantastic. The carpeting needs updated but the place as a whole was great. The one thing that could be improved are the small amenities (minimal amounts of toilet paper, dish detergent, washer soap, shampoo/conditioner, etc...) otherwise, there aren't many places I book again but this is definitely one that I will.

This is a very nice house, with lovely view out into the trees and down to Strawberry Creek.
The bedrooms are decently comfortable and it is nice that there are three bathrooms to go with the three bedrooms. None of the bathrooms or bedrooms can be reached without negotiating at least a few stairs.
The master bedroom (with ensuite bathroom) is up two flights of stairs. It is technically a loft, as there are openings to the cathedral ceiling area above the living room. But there is complete visual privacy. Their is a TV (that we didn't use) and plenty of drawer and closet space. There is a sliding glass door onto a private deck. The bathroom has a tub/shower combo. The toilet in the master bath is very unusually low to the ground and could be difficult for anyone to use who has bad knees.
The other two bedrooms are on top of each other, both face towards the front of the house, with a nice view of Pine Dell and the houses across the way. The queen bedroom is up a flight of stairs on the way to the master bedroom. There is a bathroom off of the same landing (shower/tub combo). It is not ensuite, but the natural thing would be for it to be used by solely by the people in the queen bedroom. The bedroom with two twin beds is reached by going down a half flight of stairs. Again, there is a bathroom (shower only) off of the same landing. This is the bathroom that is most convenient to the common living area, so it is likely to be used by everyone.
The living room is comfy, with a generous L-shaped sectional set opposite the lovely fireplace. There is also a reclining massage chair. It doesn't swivel, so if you want to watch TV from this chair, you will have to push it around to face the TV and then push it back to face the sofa if you want to converse with others.
The dining table is adequate, though a little on the small side for 6 people. 8 people would be extraordinarily cramped and there are only 6 dining chairs.
The kitchen is decently well equipped, though somewhat disorganized. It is challenging to find matching lids for pots and casserole dishes. There is both a regular blending (much appreciated) and a magic wand blender. The fridge, microwave, and dishwasher are all perfectly fine. The weak point in the kitchen is the stove. It is electric (an older model) and has only two burners (and grill). The are also important implements missing, such as a potato masher, spatulas, etc.
If you are running the heat, a vent blow warm air onto your feet while you cook. Probably a nice thing for most people, but not ideal for those with temperature sensitivity and/or neuropathy due to something like MS or diabetes.
There about about 8-10 steps to negotiate to get to the front door. There is a mudroom and there are spare jackets in the closet for those who came unprepared for the weather. One of the living room closets has a few puzzles and games.
The ambiance is really pleasant in this house. The rugs and furnishings are a little dated and old, but because they were well chosen in the first place, they hold up pretty well.
We were there during a snow storm and lost power and the local vacasa employees were very helpful is clearing snow and bring us firewood. However the basic way that Vacasa handles calls about problems is totally infuriating, routing literally everything through a central number with no way at all to directly contact a local manager. It is extremely inefficient and, when you are in a snow storm and have no power, it is just downright frightening.
I would strongly recommend that Vacasa always keep the house stocked with firewood during snow season. They can put a note up that there is a charge to use the firewood if they are worried about he expense. But it is just not safe to have a single employee distributing firewood to a bunch of rental with no power and no heat during adverse weather conditions. (It's not safe for the employee and its' not safe for the renters.)
Pine Dell road is a delightful private road hardly bigger than a driveway. During heavy snow it is a real gamble whether you will be able to get out, even with AWD and chains. And it is definitely risky with only 2-wheel drive, even with chains. The road, though short, has both a hill and some turns. A recipe for sliding on ice and/or getting stuck.
There are several things that need maintenance attention at Castlebrooke:
--there's one entire bank of lights in the living room where all the bulbs are burned out.
--the lower hallway has burned out bulbs
--the garbage disposal doesn't work
--the smoke alarm outside the master bedroom needs a new battery
--the drawers in the closet of the master bedroom could use cleaning
--the lower kitchen cupboards could use a good cleaning, organizing, and inventory (to see what is missing)
Hi, Emma! Thank you for staying with us and leaving such a helpful review. Maintenance will complete a walk through to ensure all light bulbs and switches are working. The garbage disposal is working correctly, the smoke alarm batteries have been changed, and a kitchen deep clean has been scheduled. We hope to see you again!

My girlfriends and I decided we needed to get away for a quick weekend trip. We loved the house we rented. It was close to town so we walked to go shopping and got some great pastries at a coffee shop. The house was nestled in the trees and next to a stream which was beautiful. The road to drive in from the main road was VERY difficult to find. Luckily a few of us got there early before dark but at dark the rest could not find it at all. We had to go up and get them. The beds were comfortable, the living room and dining room was plenty big for all 6 of us to gather around. The kitchen was well stocked although it was not very conducive to cooking due to the microwave being super close to the stove. And the carpets were pretty weathered and there was carpet in the kitchen and bathrooms. The house could use some remodeling but it still served our needs. The driveway was nice and big and accommodated our 3 cars. And the back patio was nice to sit at and enjoyed the scenery. We would definitely stay here again.
Thank you for sharing your feedback, Marcie! We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed a fun trip with your friends. We're sorry to hear that you had any difficulty finding the home in the dark, and we encourage guests to reach out to our professional, dedicated team who are standing by should any need arise. We will pass your helpful observations regarding the microwave and carpet onto our local staff for consideration, as we are always looking for ways to improve each home. We hope to have another chance to impress you in the future!

Nice rental with all the basic amenities and the sound of a brook you can hear from the master bedroom.

I told my wife I wanted to be out in nature, but near shops and dining. We looked at a lot of places before settling on CastleBrooke and could not have been happier. Steps to Strawberry Creek with an inviting big porch overlooking the water, yet less than a minute from town. It was the best of both worlds.

This house is well set-up for multiple people with three bedrooms and three bathrooms. The location is great (walkable to town) and right on a beautiful creek.

This cabin is beautifully designed for comfort and convenience for large or small groups. Very well appointed, kitchen well supplied, and a very easy walk to town center

My family and I could not have been happier with our recent stay in this fantastic house. The lofted ceilings and open floor-plan of the main living space give an abundance of light and a feeling of space during the day, without compromising the snug, cozy feel that we love from evenings in the mountains.
The three large bedrooms all have great, comfy beds and their own separate bathrooms. And the kitchen was incredibly well-stocked with everything we could have wanted for preparing meals.
The location is also great - tucked beneath the pines at the edge of Strawberry Creek, giving a real feel of being in amongst nature, whilst also being just a short walk away from the center of the village. My young daughters loved watching the jays and squirrels flitting around between the trees just beside the large back deck.
Idyllwild has always been a special place that we love to escape to, and this house helped make our recent trip feel even more special. We will definitely be back.
