At just under a hundred miles inland from LA, Big Bear Lake is tucked away in the San Bernardino National Forest. Boasting four-seasons worth of fun activities, this popular resort town is home to two ski resorts, as well as a gorgeous freshwater lake just perfect for swimming , boating, kayaking, and more. And from this Mallard Lagoon Escape, you'll have a lakefront location to all the fun out on the water.
Inside this comfortable retreat, settle in for an evening in front of the wood-burning fireplace or watch a show on the large, flatscreen cable TV. There's also a DVD player, so make sure to bring your favorite movies from home!
The full kitchen is well-stocked with gadgets like a blender, microwave, and toaster, as well as all major appliances including a dishwasher. And when you gather everyone to eat, pick a spot under the antler chandelier or the counter breakfast bar. There's plenty of space for everyone whether it's a hearty brunch before a day of skiing or a make your own taco party after a day at the beach.
At night, settle into one of the bedrooms for a good night's sleep. In the master, you'll have a king-size bed as well as a half bath, while another bedroom on the main level has a queen bed and access to a bathroom with a shower. If there are any members of your group who don't want to deal with stairs, either of these two bedrooms are a great option.
Upstairs, there are two twin beds in one room and a loft sleeping area with another set of twin beds, as well as a full bathroom on this level. Easily enough space for your group of up to eight guests! Bedrooms are charming with homey touches and wood paneling, while the loft is bright and perfect for two of the kids.
You can even bring your dogs, though a nightly fee per dog and minimum fee per stay will apply. Other amenities include a washer and dryer so you can pack lightly.
In winter, head to one of two local ski resorts. Snow Summit Mountain Resort is just three and a half miles east and Bear Mountain Resort is just a couple of miles further. Whichever you choose, you can be skiing after a short 10 to 15-minute drive. There are also plenty of opportunities for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
Spring, summer, and fall, Big Bear Lake is a hub of activity. Go out fishing, rent a canoe, or just relax by the shore taking in the view. In fall you can even enjoy the changing leaves with a scenic hike. And year-round, the shops, galleries, and restaurants of the charming downtown offer a pleasant way to spend an afternoon.
For an unforgettable family retreat, this Southern California vacation rental at Big bear Lake offers a relaxing and comfortable environment for a wonderful getaway!

Great location and picture perfect views
Location says it all. Lake front cant be beat.
Check in was easy and painless and hostess was friendly and accommodating. We spent the weekend here and celebrated my daughters birthday with family and friends who joined us for the day on Saturday. It was amazing with gorgeous views, an amazing and comfortable grassy back patio, large jacuzzi and BBQ. We loved it, and look forward to doing it again. The house is very comfortable and roomy. The left upstairs is very neat and just adds character to the house and fun for the kids. Note, it is very warm up there in the warmer months, so I recommend wetting kids hair at night and using the provided fans to keep them comfortable. Thank you so much for the experience and sharing your home with us. Leeann-
Every year our family rents a cabin in Big Bear for Mother’s Day weekend. This year we stayed at “Mallard Lagoon Escape”... first the negatives were the Lake was lower this year than last year & the cove was mostly mud. Also the first time you walk into the cabin there is a closed up, slight musty smell but we go to the local supermarket to get groceries the first day & pick up a few air fresheners & you are good to go for the weekend! The one guest bedroom queen bed downstairs was very hard! Almost like laying on a piece of plywood, it seemed to be a foam bed, just foam not like temperpedic or anything. Read in other reviews the flooring is uneven & feels some spots weaker than others but you get used to it. This isn’t really a negative but the jacuzzi when you put the jets on high made a lot of bubbles, like foamy bubbles. Lastly the trash you have to take to a dump place that was farther away, closer trash drop off would be more accommodating.
Positives... very cute, private, serene with beautiful lake view from inside the house & outside! Nice kitchen, had everything we needed, towels & sheets seemed clean enough, heater worked really well, jacuzzi was really relaxing, clean & easy to use, House is close to shops, marina, etc...
Over all we loved our weekend here and Vacasa staff we checked in with was very sweet & helpful during our trip.
Great location & very pet friendly.
Great time here, good location, nice place to stay right by the lake.
Excelente lugar para compartir en familia
The Mallard Lagoon property worked out well for our group of three adults, 4 kids under age 10 and two small dogs. House was well furnished, a little hard to find because it sits a bit down from the road. Well furnished and comfortable floor plan. Only issues were sluggish plumbing and no firewood as promised. Would definitely stay here again.
We are sorry to see there was some confusion regarding the firewood; we do not advertise firewood as a provided amenity. Maintenance is inspecting the plumbing so they can address any issues they may find. Thanks!
We greatly enjoyed our 5-night summer stay at Mallard Lagoon Escape. While nothing was fancy, everything was very comfortable and adequate. The whole family and our puppies could relax and enjoy our vacation. Although the lake was "end of summer" low, it was still possible to launch our canoe and paddle the lake right from our back door -- extra treat.
The back yard was very nice with a nice view. We liked the wooden swing. The spa was great. I read past reviews, and we did not experience any ants which was great. It had lots of kitchen wear to use, coffee pot, blender, etc. Plenty of clean towels. It was clean. Was happy to have the washer/dryer and soap to use. We were just a little disappointed about the sprinklers, which made us worried about stepping into the puddles and tracking dirt into the home, especially having our dog with us. We really had to make sure she didn't go toward the drive way on that side of the house. One of the sprinklers was also broken which sprayed our truck and we didn't see it until the next afternoon after it had dried hard water spots. We weren't close to the grass, it just sprayed up and over to the driveway. Had to have truck professionally detail. We called about it a couple of times, but was not contacted by anyone. There was Wifi and Dish Tv which was great, but there was many remotes, which made it difficult to operate(however there was written instructions), the sound on the tv system echo'd which was a little frustrating. Didn't know how to fix that. The best part of the place was the back yard.
This is our second time staying at this home. Love it. Private. Clean. On the water- ish. Fun for the whole family. Whether you are a fisherman, the barbecuer or just want to sit in the shade or on the famous swing bench. Everyone will be happy and relaxing in this scene.
Great BBQ and the grass was lovely for the kids to play on.
We will be back!
Our first impression of the inside of the cabin was that it was a little odd smelling and very run down but definitely fine for our minimal needs (just very, very overpriced and disappointing, all things considering!!!). We mostly enjoyed the backyard, the lake, and the town. We were fortunate to have enough water in the lake to utilize the dock. The house is "pet friendly" although there are no fences so we had to make some temporary boundaries ourselves. The house also has a pretty big ant problem which made prepping/cooking meals in a tiny kitchen, with little to no counter space, even more of a challenge. The ants were also in the bathrooms. The back door was broken -- the top hinge of the door was rotted out so it made it very difficult to open/close and a potential hazard if the next hinge were to give way. The front door was also difficult to open because it rubs pretty hard on the carpet (floors are strange to walk on and have some interesting settling but that is only of concern to a future buyer -- the house is currently for sale). The lock box on the actual front door does not open which was not mentioned during check in so luckily we noticed another lock box behind us on the wood beam which worked and had a key in it. My husband and I found the bed in the first room down stairs to be extremely firm which was very unpleasant. Overall, the house worked out fine since we intended to enjoy the lake and the town and did not need a luxurious space but since I was asked to provide a review after my stay I am delivering the truth compared to the price we paid. I would never pay the asking price to stay there again but if the price was adjusted appropriately I would have no problem staying again! With regard to the price, I am extremely disappointed by all the hidden fees. The actual nightly price is DOUBLE the advertised nightly price after all of the taxes and fees are included. Mind you we still chose to book and understand that most places have fees -- but a hot-tub fee (non-optional) and an extra processing fee if you book thru vrbo (beware!!! -- only book on vacasa!) and a rather steep pet fee for being "pet friendly" (pets will not make this place worse and actually helped keep the squirrel/rodent problem at bay in the yard!!!). As a family that is used to flipping houses and doing a lot of DIY house work, we all agreed that we would NEVER buy this house (it's currently for sale).
Pest control has treated the home for ants, and the door issue has been fixed. We apologize for any disappointments this guest experienced and greatly appreciate their feedback.
Imagine sitting in your private jacuzzi after sunset, relaxing with your favorite beverage gazing at the star filled sky. This was just that for us. We had to families come together to celebrate the beginning of summer and enjoy some much needed time off. This home was the perfect spot! Located on an inlet just off of the lake, this home has a nice sized private yard, private dock, and plenty of space for our group of 8. The home was well equipped with everything we needed.
The kids had a blast fishing, and floating around the inlet on their tubes. The adults enjoyed the serenity of it all, and relaxing in the spa at night. The home is near outside amenities, but far enough away that you're not bothered by the sounds of traffic.
We can't wait to go back!
Had a dock for my boat which worked great. Private area on the lake.
This home was perfect for our little family . Beautiful inside every room offered enough privacy from the rest of the home. The jacuzzi after a day of snowboarding was the cherry on top.
Amazing property! Loved the jacuzzi!! Fun house, great location. Definitely will rent here again!
Enjoyed our stay. View, location, safety, condition of the property was in great shape. Visit again.
The house is lovely and neighbors very freindly. Other than having to clean up prior tenant dog waste, we enjoyed the property.
I arrived at 3:30, early for check in, but the kind gentleman saw me and I was able to get the lockbox code.
Locations is great. We loved the backyard and the view from it, our dogs were happy there. House a bit outdated but we enjoyed the stay, it had everything we needed.
Check in was fine. Upon arriving at the cabin, first impressions of the inside were that it was a little run down but would be fine for our needs. Walking out in to the backyard, that's fantastic. The backyard was well maintained and had a perfectly placed swing and hot tub to enjoy the beautiful view. The water is low right now(not the cabins fault of course), so don't expect to be able to use the dock. Night one went well, we were able to enjoy the hot tub. The only issue this night was that the upstairs loft area was so hot while the downstairs was still chilly, but overall not a big deal, we figured it out. Day 2 we decided to go walk The Village and when we got back we found out we had been invaded by ants. We left a loaf of unused french bread and sealed muffins on the counter and they were covered. We used the supplied cans of Raid but were still seeing ants for the rest of our trip. So just beware if you rent this cabin that you cant leave anything on the counters... perhaps if it was sealed in an airtight container you might be okay. The furniture was worn and the beds were very springy, but it wasn't so bad we couldn't use them. The TV's were nice and set up with satellite. Overall I'd give the cabin 3.5 stars. The ants and worn appearance on the inside of the cabin brought rating down but the outside is fantastic.
One of the reasons we chose this property was because it has a jacuzzi . It was broken and we couldn't use it . There was a note left on it with a phone number and a message that he would be back. So I called him and said that he won't be back and that was a note he left from the previous time he was there . I would guess from the sound of his voice would have been a couple weeks . So I called the office several times and left messages . No one called me back ....... We also tried to use the BBQ , even thought there were 2 propane tanks , had to finish off the food in the oven ...... I has asked for an early check-in and was told flat out no because they were booked solid . Check-in time is 4:00 , that's what time their office opens to go pick up the lock box code to get the key at the property . I guess in mountain time 4:00 is what time people start working !!!??? There was no dish soap or washing machine detergent and no dishwasher soap . When you look at the pictures on line of the interior , it looks much bigger than it really is . The feeling I got from this place is that it's just a money grab for the owners . It needs major upgrades . I've been renting properties in Big Bear every year for the last 20 years , in summer and winter , and this is comparable to the motels on Big Bear Blvd that are less expensive . Needless to say , I will not recommend this place to anyone , and won't use Vacasa to book my vacations again .
We are disappointed to see that you did not have a better experience during your stay. Housekeeping has been followed-up with regrading properly stocking the home, the propane tanks have been filled (and we are happy to refill them or reimburse for fill-ups if we are notified), and the hot tub is good to go!
If you cannot stand the cold do not stay here the heater worked when it wanted to and the cold nights were unbearable
We are very sorry to see that you were so cold during your stay! The Property Manager will inspect the heater right away to make sure it is functioning for our incoming winter guests. We hope you took advantage of the fireplace!
Our family was celebrating my two sons' birthdays, and needed enough space for 7 adults and 1 baby! There was more than enough room for everyone to have their own space, and yet the living room/kitchen area was large enough for all. The nice thing was that when the baby was asleep in the back bedroom, those laughing and talking in the living room did not wake her!! The location was beautiful, and the patio area was huge!
This house was set up so nice for my family which included young kids (6, 4 & 2). The two downsides to this trip were the spa didn't work for the first day and a half and there wasn't anything extra in the kitchen; no salt and pepper, no cooking spray and no matches. We have stayed at multiple cabins and all of them came with these things so we didn't pack them with the assumption they would be there. It was still a FANTASTIC trip and we would definitely stay here again, now we know we need to bring some of our own stuff.
This is the ultimate place to relax. We stayed here and enjoyed the lake view, the hot tub, the fireplace, the barbecue, the weather. It was perfect for having a few drinks and lounging and completely turning my mind off - which is exactly what I wanted. The only bummer about this place is that the lake levels are so low right now, so you can't actually use the dock, it's just sort of sitting on lake muck right now. That said, you can still see the lake and it's beautiful and it's not the property's fault that the lake is low. The beds were comfy. The place was clean. Water pressure was great. The house wasn't super fancy but it was everything we needed. The yard is really well kept with lush green grass. Our dog really loved running around. I'd almost say they water the grass too much. The sprinklers went off every night, which was weird and maybe not necessary. The hot tub was super clean and worked great. It was wonderful. Overall, an awesome getaway and we'd definitely do it again.
The place has a very nice location and access to the lake thru Canvasback cove, attached to mallard lagoon. There is a great breeze that comes thru and keeps everything cool. But, the interior is a bit dated, and almost exactly the same from when we stayed here 7+ years ago. The downstairs carpet and love seat are the real culprits. If these were replaced with some cheap upgrades, it would be a real improvement. The Kitchen is nice and user friendly. The tv, cable and wi fi is real plus. We logged in and watched our Netflix, pretty cool. The dock is great for easy access, but water is low, so we bought a blow up zodiac boat that could dock there. Dog friendly is wonderful, but no fences for your pooches, so be aware that they can run right to the street if not supervised 100%. We had a very relaxing stay and with a few tweaks, this could really be a gem.
Thank you so much for sharing your review and feedback with us. We are thrilled that you came back to this home for another vacation. The owner has taken great care to ensure the kitchen is well stocked and that the home's amenities make all of our valued guests feel at home. Sadly, water levels are lower than normal this year but it sounds like you were able to enjoy your time on the water. Thanks again for your feedback. We hope to see you again in the future!
