Recent Prescott guest reviews

Returning guest for our annual girls trip. The home is cozy and well maintained. Beautiful views all the way around. Host is amazing and quickly responds to requests or questions. Will continue to make this home our home away from home.

Excellent home and very comfortable stay! Beds were comfortable and lots of options for extra warmth (we visited late December), as well as portable heaters for the main living and the bathroom which were useful and appreciated. All the kitchen comforts we needed, lovely wraparound porch. Neighborhood was super quiet and very close to center of town. Great decor, fun place to stay. The only thing I would change is that I wish I had brought a sleep mask as I don't sleep well with light in the room, and the heater temp gauge is quite bright in a dark room. Otherwise absolutely delightful stay!

This home was just the right size for our group. We had plenty of dining space, lounging space, but we spent most of our time outdoors on the patio enjoying the spectacular view day and night. Convenient location, well equipped, and the host was very attentive. Thanks!

Plan your Prescott getaway

As you compare homes, think about whether you want to stay near downtown, close to the lakes, near forest trails, or in a quieter cabin-style setting with room to unwind. Each home is unique, so review listing details for parking, kitchens, pet policies, WiFi, laundry, fireplaces, outdoor space, and seasonal access notes before you book.

Things to do in Prescott

Looking for things to do in Prescott, AZ? Start with the city’s lake scenery, downtown history, and pine-forest trails, then add museums that connect Prescott to territorial Arizona and the broader Southwest.

Watson Lake and the Granite Dells

Watson Lake and the Granite Dells give Prescott its most recognizable outdoor scene, with boulder-ringed water, paddling, shoreline hiking, and photo-ready views close to town. It’s the signature first stop for outdoor travelers who want scenery that feels specific to Prescott.

Best for:

Whiskey Row and Courthouse Plaza

Whiskey Row and Courthouse Plaza are Prescott’s essential downtown anchors, pairing the historic saloon block on Montezuma Street with a shaded civic plaza. Use this area for an easy walkable evening with history, restaurants, shops, and local atmosphere close together.

Best for:

Thumb Butte Recreation Area

Thumb Butte Recreation Area puts pine-shaded trails and mountain views close to town at the base of Prescott’s namesake rock formation. It’s a go-to quick hike or picnic outing when you want forest access without making the day a regional drive.

Best for:

Lynx Lake, North Shore Picnic Site

Lynx Lake’s North Shore Picnic Site offers fishing, picnic tables, and a quieter pine-forest lake setting for a slower outdoor afternoon. It’s a softer lake-day alternative to Watson Lake, especially for travelers who want a calmer picnic or fishing stop.

Sharlot Hall Museum

Sharlot Hall Museum is a four-acre Arizona history museum with historic buildings, gardens, and exhibits tied to Prescott’s territorial-capital past. It works well before or after a downtown walk through Courthouse Plaza and Whiskey Row.

Museum of Indigenous People

Museum of Indigenous People focuses on Indigenous cultures of the Southwest, with exhibits and artifacts that broaden Prescott’s history beyond frontier-era stories. It’s a thoughtful cultural stop for travelers pairing downtown history with a wider view of Arizona heritage.

Where to eat in Prescott

Prescott dining is easiest to plan around Whiskey Row and Courthouse Plaza. This walkable downtown cluster brings together western-style bars, casual restaurants, patios, shops, live-music stops, and historic atmosphere close to the city’s main visitor landmarks.

If you prefer relaxed meals at your rental, check each listing for kitchen setup, dining space, outdoor seating, grill details, and parking. Features vary by home, so confirm the setup that matters most before booking.

The Palace Restaurant and Saloon

The Palace Restaurant and Saloon is a restored 1877 saloon on Whiskey Row, where the meal is part of the Old West barroom setting. It works well for lunch, dinner, or a drink when you are already exploring Courthouse Plaza and downtown Prescott.

Prescott local tips

Day trips from Prescott

Prescott makes a practical base for Verde Valley and northern Arizona outings when you want mining history, archaeology, or red-rock scenery beyond the city’s lakes and downtown. Plan these as separate half-day or full-day trips, and check current hours, road conditions, tickets, and access details before you go.

Jerome State Historic Park

Jerome State Historic Park is a historic mining-site museum in Jerome’s Douglas Mansion, with exhibits explaining the copper boomtown story before visitors explore the hillside town. It’s a Verde Valley mining-history day trip that feels distinct from Prescott’s territorial-capital history.

Tuzigoot National Monument

Tuzigoot National Monument is a National Park Service site preserving a hilltop pueblo in the Verde Valley. It works well for travelers who want a cultural-history day trip tied to central Arizona’s Indigenous past.

Montezuma Castle National Monument

Montezuma Castle National Monument near Camp Verde protects a cliff dwelling that offers a different kind of archaeological stop from Prescott’s in-town museums. Route it clearly as a Verde Valley day trip, not a Prescott attraction.

Sedona Red Rock Country

Sedona Red Rock Country is a separate red-rock destination with hiking, scenic viewpoints, galleries, and wellness-focused trip planning. Use it as a broader day-trip idea for travelers who want a dramatically different landscape and are willing to leave the Prescott area for the day.
