***Please note that there may be guests on the Studio side of the home during your stay.

Spectacular in both setting and design, this contemporary craftsman-style home perfectly captures the beautiful light, ocean views, and relaxed comfort of Mendocino and the wild Northern California Coast. Here on the bluffs overlooking Russian Gulch and the Mendocino Headlands, you'll find white-water ocean views in nearly every room, a great room with 18-foot ceilings and lovely exposed beams, and glass doors that open onto the ocean-facing redwood decks. Come home from your daily walks on the nearby beaches to savor the warmth and luxury of in-floor radiant heat, Waterford wood stoves, a hot tub, and a Scandinavian-style sauna.

What's nearby:
On the property of this south-facing home, you'll find gorgeous sunrise views, a garden overlooking the ocean that can be used for meditation or contemplation. Russian Gulch State Park is immediately south, and the Point Cabrillo Light Station State Historic Park is less than a mile north on Highway 1. This house is amazing. Whenever I rent a house I'm always a bit nervous that the place will not live up to the photos. This home met our expectations and more. The location is stunning and very conveniently located. The kitchen is very well set up with everything you need to make some great meals. Our two adult children and their spouses were very comfortable with the downstairs rooms, and we were thrilled with the amazing upstairs bedroom. The living room is huge, and very comfortable. Everything was very clean. We take our family trips every other year, we are excited to return.

This house is great for our family to gather, eat and play. Fantastic yard and good view. It is as good as is looks. The only reason that I gave it 4 stars is the lack of attention to little details. For the price I would expect better towels than a public school gym class. Even a single hanger in the ample closets would be nice. The cork screws feel like they came from a thrift store. Even so, we will be back next time (and probably prepared with our own amenities).

Let me preface I stayed here before in 2017 the price was about the same, no change there. It was managed by a bed and breakfast in a little river we were very familiar with. The house is about the same which is why we chose it. We were back to collect content as creators for social media and train a client's dog (thank you for being dog friendly) The layout is perfect for setting up crates.
Pros: dead-end road, peaceful, great front yard for dogs or little humans if you have those and conveniently center to Mendocino and Fort Bragg, so a gas saver in these times. I was close to all the hiking, like a mile close, and 2 miles to Caspar beach which is virtually deserted in the mornings during the week so my dogs could play.
I was elated to see we now had access to the washer and dryer. This is why i do this! I can wash all my clothes before returning home making unpacking a breeze. House is clean and laid out beautifully and the location is why we chose it.
Cons:
You lose that sense of pride you get from air b&b or the bed and breakfast managing. No welcome basket or dog basket. Let me elaborate on this
People basket: thank you card, a bottle of local wine, fresh flowers? I mean coffee would have been great, something? This isn't a $ 150-a-night rental home. This is equivalent to me staying in one of the best rooms in an all-inclusive resort in Cancun.
A binder of house rules: where do you want dog waste? Restaurants do you recommend? Wineries? Wine tours? must see things? Discounts with partnering places? Those little touches make a stay memorable and even the best hotels do this and that is what people/creators share on social media. The mark was missed here. I know the pandemic has been hard but these little partnerships again go a long way.

Knowing dogs were coming: stainless steel bowls? poop bags? blankets to cover furniture (we don't allow our dogs on couches but we aren't everyone also something in house rules indicating your feelings on this) These were all things provided in 2017. This trip No ice, No coffee. Get it before you come. I was irritated to arrive at the check-out time at 4 pm after an insanely long drive to see there was no coffee anywhere. We had filters though.
Blinds upstairs were broken and noted by maintenance again I understand supply chain issues just know you will not be sleeping in unless you choose a room downstairs.
I agree the paper products were horrible but I know the house is on septic and also being a previous landlord I also know how people are especially tiny humans can be about the disposal of those items down the toilet nothing I am overly concerned with.
Now the TVs. Okay... this house is 3 bedroom and has one small tv poorly placed a distance from the couch. I again get it, we are coming out of a pandemic but this was an issue in 2017 but we did have some older TVs in one of the bedrooms. I do enjoy reading a good book in front of the ocean but for the love of all things holy, I also love watching a good movie and seeing it on a decent size well-placed tv and also having the option of retiring to my room to watch 90 day fiance without my husband. My advice bring in a decorator reposition the sofa and put a very large TV on that wall by the fireplace instead of the small cow photo. Then place a smallish TV in the master, remove the weird superfluous furniture in the master (like the entertainment center with no tv), and maybe an additional TV in the two-bed room for children.
We had a $500 credit offered if we referred. How about a $500 credit if I rebook? I would have on the spot and paid 50% down for another 6 nights by next year.
You wont be disappointed in the home as long as you are prepared for the lack of amenities you might be accustomed to in a property at this price point
Manager response:
Tiffany, thank you for your review. It is our pleasure that you enjoyed the location. We are sorry to hear that the home did not meet your expectations. It is our goal to make all guests feel at home during their stay, and we regret this was not the case this time. We appreciate your suggestions about the welcome basket and all the amenities previously mentioned; such as TVs, stainless steel bowls, and blankets. We have shared them with the team as a means to continually improve our services. We are following up with the contractor regarding the upstairs blinds so future guests can have a more comfortable night of rest in that room. Thank you for allowing us to improve, and we hope we have another chance to turn your experience around!

The views were great throughout the house. The dining and living rooms were perfect for hanging out together. The kitchen was funtionally equipped. The house was well located for lots of activities. We would defintely stay again.
Kerri G. Mar 2022
Very open floor plan with ocean views. Quiet location. Very comfortable and relaxing. Well equipped kitchen. We would book this home again.

We love waking up to the sunrise in the masterbedroom. The home was perfect and clean. However, the regular supplies (dishwasher soap, trash bags, fire logs) ran out and when we asked Vacasa about this their response was that this was the normal amount (one log, 6 dishpods and trash bags). There were only 4 of us and we were there for 3 nights. Beautiful property and gardens. Loved watching the deer just beyond the deck.
David E. Dec 2021
Beautiful house with great view and location. Would rent again!
Sarah L. Aug 2021
Home was spacious and well appointed for a carefree relaxing time away from the noise and hub bub of daily life. Beautiful outdoor areas for spending relaxing time while enjoying the wonderful sounds of ocean waves. Definitely recommend this beautiful home for your visit to lovely Mendocino.
Anna W. Jul 2021
Overall, we had a nice stay in this spacious 3 bedroom home. We also happily brought our two dogs and enjoyed ourselves. Thank you for allowing dogs.
Point Cabrillo lighthouse and Redwood Gulch State Park are both very close by. You get a beautiful view of the ocean from the deck and I spent many happy hours reading on the large sectional couch with my dogs napping on the floor nearby. The home also had a nice selection of games and puzzles.
I deducted a star for the low-quality supplies (e.g., single-ply toilet paper worse than what I've used in gas stations, scratchy thin bath towels, and cheap flimsy paper towels). For over $800/night (all taxes and fees included), I expect nicer supplies and felt they cheaped out on these little things. It would also have been nice if there were a small welcome basket with coffee (as we've had in other high-end vacation rentals).
We also had an issue where the maintenance man came to try and fix a downstairs shower after the cleaners had cleaned. I learned this after calling Vacasa because he left a puddle of water on the bathroom floor (which soaked my socks) and muddy dog pawprints all over the bathtub itself (which I discovered when I opened the shower curtain). We ended up not even using that shower since the showerhead had a huge leak that sprayed water from the tubing, not the actual head. I discovered it the hard way when trying to wash off the muddy dog pawprints.
Final note: they are firm on the 4 pm check-in and 10 am check-out, which is unfortunate.
Manager response:
Thank you for telling us about your stay, Anna. We apologize our maintenance tech missed cleaning up after himself once he was done inspecting the shower; we have followed-up with him on this. The necessary part needed is on order so it can be repaired.

The house is top notch with many amenities, and a gorgeous garden. Outstanding views of the ocean, Point Carrillo lighthouse, Ave the Mendocino headlands. You are really close to Russian Gulch.
Two things to know : laundry is unavailable and there are residents and dogs in the attached unit.
Anjali C. Jun 2021
We had a really nice time in this home. It was very comfortable and clean. There was lots of space and the outside areas were beautiful.
Thomas V. Apr 2021
The house was perfect for my family of 5. Very comfortable and a really beautiful location. WeI hope to come back again!
Lauren P. Mar 2021
This home was exactly as pictured and was perfect for my family's needs. It was very comfortable, conveniently located to downtown Mendocino and had beautiful views of the ocean!
Christopher S. Nov 2020
Loved the location, well appointed, with great view. Family space was great. Beds very comfortable. Big hot tub! Great get get away. Can’t wait to go back. Could use a couple of things- washer/drier access (especially for longer stays) and the 10am check out seemed a little. Even with these, highly recommend!!
Sasha F. Sep 2020
Great location within walking distance of Russian Gulch and the Lighthouse and a few minutes drive to Mendocino. Lots of space and ocean views. Especially nice in that it is dog friendly!

We spent a beautiful fall week at this lovely home. Met up with friends in Sausalito and drove up, stopping at wineries along the way. ( A MUST DO). The home is stunningly situated on the hillside, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Everyone was drawn to the magnificent views throughout the home and especially scenic from the great room, kitchen and attractive deck. The kitchen is very well equipped and large enough to allow for multiple cooks at once! The bedrooms are very large and beds are very comfortable. A huge plus after an active day. When you can step away from the views at the house, the walk to and through Russian Gulch State Park is a MUST!! The Point Cabrillo Light House and surrounding Historic Park is another enjoyable walk with gorgeous views. Downtown Mendocino does not disappoint. Very good restaurants, some with amazing views, as well as artisan shops and coffee/wine cafes. Lovely place to spend an afternoon. We hated to see our week come to an end….we took home wonderful wine and same amazing memories! We will be back.

My wife and I stayed at Mendocino Sunrise for a week in early July – thrilled that the County had opened up. This was a return visit for us, as we have stayed here several times when it was previously managed by Schoolhouse. The house was stunning before, but it appears the owners have added new carpet and a huge couch and chairs since we were here last. We love the location: views from every room, close to both Mendo and Ft Bragg, Russian Gulch, Pt Cabrillo, Casper Beach and Jughandle. Some of our favorite places. We also use this house as a home base for our wine tasting trips to the Anderson Valley and to the south coast – Pt Arena, Gualala, Jenner and Russian River. Ending the day with a glass of wine in the hot tub is one of our favorite things to do! Looking forward to our next visit. ~ Brian

Mendocino Sunrise ~ Lovely vacation home for a group get together or family reunion. We’ve hosted a girls weekend at in this beautiful and quiet home for the last three years and can’t wait to return. Some spend the days exploring and enjoying all the many activities in the area, while some stay at home and sit on the veranda, smelling the sea air, looking for whales and enjoying the peace and solitude. We love the expansive windows that look out on to the bluffs — so that whether you are sitting inside or out, you are always enjoying the view. Neighborhood is very quiet — rarely see another person. Mostly just deer and turkeys wandering by…. Home is well equipped, beds are comfy and hot tub is always bubbling. This property is perfectly situated to make you feel like you’ve gotten away from it all! We’ll see you next time!
