It's a Beach Thing - Port Bolivar, TX

The home was pretty much what we expected from the information advertised. We had a great time and loved the charm of the home and would stay there again.

The only thing that came up was a few maintenance and house keeping issues.

Recently my family & I had some serious, personal losses. This vacation was an opportunity for us to grow forward & spend time together as family. The home was beautiful and included all the amenities we needed & convenient to the beach. Very peaceful and extraordinary location! Thank You!

This is a beautiful home, offering plenty of space for our group of 7. The kitchen is well appointed. The top deck offers gorgeous views of the beach and ocean and lots of space to relax in the sun. I really wish I could give this a 5 star rating but there were too many little things that just weren't quite right to allow me to feel we received full value for our money.

Each thing alone was no big deal, but when you add them all up, it just takes away from the overall experience enough that I can only give it 4 stars. I would give the home itself 5 stars, but the overall experience 4 stars.

If you are not from the area, there are two ways to get to the home, either driving south down the peninsula or from Galveston, by taking the Ferry. Obviously, this has nothing to do with the home itself, but more with the experience. We were not from the area and thought taking the Ferry would be a pretty neat thing to try. However, we arrived on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, and even with 5 boats running, we waited over an hour and half for the Ferry. Had we known wait times were that long, we would have driven the other direction from the Houston Airport, even though it was more miles.

When we arrived at the home finally, I had received the code for the lockbox and was able to retrieve the key without issue, however, there were 3 outside doors and I had to try every one of them to find the right one to get into the home.

Once in the home, I was expecting to find a welcome letter telling us how things in the home worked, and tid bits about the area, etc. One thing that was mentioned in the original post when we reserved the home was to not take the garbage out until garbage day. Unfortunately, we had no idea when garbage day was, and we missed it.

When we made our reservation, it was for 7 people, but we could only find 4 beach towels. There were no beach chairs for use, so beach towels were a neccessity. In addition, the air conditioning on the second floor of the main house was not working when we arrived. The thermostat showed low battery, so I found some batteries and changed it out. It still didn't work, so I had to dig through my confirmation emails to find a phone number to call to get service. The only number I could find was for Vacasa and they said they would get in touch with the local people and they would be calling me. I didn't get a call back until Tuesday mid-morning. They said they had just received the message. They sent someone out and it was fixed by mid-afternoon Tuesday. At some point that day, someone else dropped off additional beach towels as well.

I would highly recommend renting a golf cart during your stay as well. This made it fun to run to the gas station or store for a snack when you could jump on the golf cart and travel the beach.

Please understand, I don't mean for this to be a review full of complaints, I only share what I did to hopefully help someone else enjoy their trip to It's a Beach Thing even more than we did.
