Dog-Friendly New England Charmer with Wraparound Porch & Artful Antiques

This classic New England sea captain’s home was built in 1862 by Captain Alfred Linekin Race. Set in the seaside village of East Boothbay, this charmer is absolutely oozing with history, including original woodwork, without sacrificing any of the modern conveniences. Set upon a thoughtfully landscaped half-acre lot, the home’s character is in full view from the moment you set foot on the wraparound, heated porch. Like each of the home’s other rooms, it’s brimming with artful antiques. There’s a wood-burning fireplace in the cozy living room and a well-equipped kitchen with a wall-mounted flatscreen TV right down the hall. You’ll sleep soundly in any of the five bedrooms, each thoughtfully decorated with period pieces. All feature a queen bed, and one is perfectly arranged for a family of four, with a queen and two twin beds, cheerily dressed in plaid. There are hardwood floors throughout, and lots of spots to settle in with a book and imagine all the memories made here before you arrived-and the ones you'll add to the story.

Great place to share w large groups of family or friends. Plenty of room to roam, capture a few private moments and/or share lots of laughs around the kitchen table. Beautiful antiques and lovely updated kitchen.

Our family stayed here for two nights in June 2022 as part of a week-long trip to Maine. We had 10 people varying in ages from 6 to 78 years old. The home was decorated with outstanding antiques, and it was clean and well-equipped. The house is located in a convenient location to the Boothbay downtown area that has an abundance of shops, stores, restaurants, and boat excursion opportunities.
The house does only have one TV and limited outlets, which is consistent with the age of the home. It also does not have air-conditioning, which was not an issue for us with the beautiful Maine summer weather! There are three full bathrooms. One has a shower only, and the other two have tubs only.
The only issues we encountered were with the Vacasa app and the lack of instructions on check-out procedures. We didn't know where to take the trash, so that information would have been helpful. A written "procedures" sheet would be a great addition to this beautiful home!
Manager response:
Don, thank you for the review of your stay at Racehaven. We are so glad you enjoyed the home and the location so much. We are sorry you had an issue with the Vacasa App. We appreciate your suggestion to help us provide the best stay experience for our guests. We look forward to hosting you in the future. Thank you!

A lovely rustic home! Over-all a great experience, especially with Vacasa quickly coming to fix a few initial issues. I reduced by one star because of things not clear in the listing: upstairs bedrooms are not connected, accessible by two different staircases. We had some sad cousins unable to stay as close together as they planned. Only bathroom downstairs is only accessible by going through the downstairs bedroom and only bathroom with a shower. Not always ideal for the one sleeping in downstairs bedroom. Bathrooms upstairs have baths only. Minimal plugs, especially in bedrooms. The room I stayed in had one plug behind the bed. I had to unplug a lamp to use it. Only one TV in house, in the kitchen.
Again, all minor issues, especially when renting a very old home, but things we wish we had some more clarification about prior to arrival.
Cannot say enough about 3 season porch! Lots of charm, nice neighborhood and wonderful area!
Manager response:
