Make Key West your next getaway

Key West doesn't do subtle. It's salt air and painted porches, the electric pulse of Duval Street at dusk, and some of the most brilliant water in the Florida Keys. A town where flip-flops are formal and every sunset gets a standing ovation. Come for the weekend — stay longer.

Recent Key West guest reviews

We enjoyed our first stay at Key West and at Baya House! Beautifully decorated, clean, and comfortable. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the pool area is so accessible and well cared for. We enjoyed our afternoons of sunning and swimming after our morning explorations. Walking distance to just about everything and the off street parking a huge plus! Would definitely stay again!

Quiet location, away from the busy downtown.

Very spacious and comfortable home. Beautifully decorated and perfect for our needs. We used it as the place for my daughter and her wedding crew to get ready. Close to her venues and everything else. Vacasa service is always the best I have always stayed at their properties in Key West and have never had a complaint.

Planning a Key West Vacation (What First-Timers Should Know)

A little planning goes a long way especially around walkability, parking, and the island’s busiest weeks. Here are the quick basics that help first-timers pick the right length of stay, the right season, and the right pace once they arrive.

Key West in a nutshell

Two miles wide, endlessly walkable, completely its own thing. Old Town is a sun-kissed mix of gingerbread cottages, fish shacks, and bars that stay open late.

How long to stay

A weekend covers the highlights. Three to five days lets you breathe. A full week? You'll start to understand why some people never left the Florida Keys.

Best time to visit

November through April: ideal weather, bigger crowds, higher rates. Summer brings heat and deals. Fantasy Fest in October and New Year's are lively and notoriously packed.

Choosing the Right Key West Vacation Rental

Private pool vs. community pool

Private pools are worth the upgrade in summer or with kids. Shared pools work fine for couples prioritizing location over splash time. Either beats the heat.

Parking & walkability

Old Town is built for walking and biking. If you're planning beaches, day trips, or water sports outside the core, budget for a rental car or scooter.

Waterfront and water views

True ocean view properties are limited and priced accordingly. Canal-front rentals are more common—still beautiful—but set expectations before you book.

Families, couples, and groups

Larger homes with private outdoor space win for groups. Families should check for pool access, noise ordinances, multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, and the right number of beds.

Pet-friendly stays

Key West is walkable and generally pet-welcoming. Look for pet-friendly homes near green spaces — shaded patios go fast. Stock Island and New Town offer the most room to roam.

Top Things to Do in Key West

Sunset at Mallory Square

Arrive at least 30 minutes early. Street performers, vendors, and an ever-growing crowd turn Mallory Square into a full event—not just a photo op. It's the most Key West thing you can do.

Duval Street

By day: boutiques, cafés, and a relaxed stroll from end to end. By night: open-air bars, live music, and Key West turned all the way up. Plan for both.

Southernmost Point

Get here early—the line builds fast. The iconic buoy marks the southernmost point of the continental U.S., and yes, it's absolutely worth the stop.

Hemingway Home + Old Town sights

The famous six-toed cats are reason enough. Pair it with the Key West Lighthouse and Little White House for a full Old Town loop.

Fort Zachary Taylor

Key West's best beach day. Calm water, solid snorkeling, a Civil War fort, and a mellower scene than you'd expect this close to Duval Street.

Key West Day Trips & On-the-Water Adventures

Dry Tortugas National Park

Seventy miles west by ferry or seaplane—and worth every bit of the trip. Book months in advance; it sells out. Fort Jefferson rising from turquoise water is something else entirely.

Snorkeling & reef trips

The Florida Keys are home to North America's only living coral barrier reef—and Key West has easy access to it. Half-day snorkel trips run daily, with water sports gear available dockside.

Sunset sails

Catamaran and sailboat charters run every evening, most with drinks on board. A slower, more beautiful way to end the day—especially with the horizon wide open around you.

Fishing Charters

Inshore trips chase tarpon, bonefish, and permit across the backcountry flats. Offshore charters target mahi, tuna, and marlin in open water. Half-day or full—ask your captain what's biting.
