Boutique hotel suite w/ a kitchenette - close to the waterfront & boardwalk
The California Cowboy is a boutique hotel room on the third floor of the Victorian-era Buhne Building in the heart of Old Town Eureka. The Buhne Building is a mixed-use artisan community with shops and galleries on the first floor and artist studios, hotel rooms, and loft spaces on the upper floors. This particular suite is ideal for couples but sleeps up to four. The living room is filled with light, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Old Town and Humboldt Bay. The original hardwood floors, salvaged redwood features, and antique furnishings celebrate the history of this building.
What's nearby: Old Town Eureka is a historic district on the Redwood Coast, full of buildings from the Victorian era, cobblestone streets, galleries, shops, restaurants, museums, and a lively waterfront boardwalk. This area is also known as a fine arts mecca and for its monthly "Arts Alive" events (when local galleries stay open late and the streets are filled with music, food, and street performances). If you want to get out and explore, this rental is less than 50 miles from Redwood National and State Parks, within 15 miles of several local beaches, and only eight miles from Arcata and Humboldt State University.

This space could not be cuter! It is in a great location and the historical building is so beautiful. However, it is not very equipped to have guests do much other than sleep there. Due to the pandemic we wanted to eat and drink inside the space but it was so unprepared for that we had to pack and purchase much to accommodate ourselves. Also, the blue chairs are beautiful but completely broken and very uncomfortable to sit in!
Thank you for your review, AnnMarie. We are so happy to hear that you had an overall enjoyable stay. To clarify, this home clearly states that only a kitchenette is provided. Within the listing info online it says that a mini-fridge, microwave, pour-over coffee maker, and electric tea kettle are provided. Dishes and silverware are not provided. We will let the property manager know about the blue chairs. Thank you!

The amazing high ceilings and beautiful turn of the century floors add a special touch to a visit to the historic area of Eureka. The bed was the most comfortable we had ever slept in, adding to the experience. You can't go wrong with this one!

My husband and I stayed at the California Cowboy for 2 nights. This place was very nice and clean. I loved the old building...and how quaint the room was! The only grumble I have (really not much of a grumble), is that because it’s an old building, you can hear everything...like every time one of the other residents opens and closes a door, or when they walk up and down the stairs (which are right next to your room), or when they have a conversation. The first night, we heard what was either music, or someone singing down the hall...late into the night. It was keeping me awake, so I just put in ear plugs...and that solved that problem! Other than that, we really have no complaints! The room was clean, linens were fresh, bathroom was clean and it’s within walking distance of a lot of shops and restaurants!
This was our second time staying at the Cowboy, and loved it just as much. Great area for cafe, shopping, harbor.
Room is beautifully furnished as shown in photos, and convenient to lots of great shops and restaurants. Shared bath was a minor inconvenience, but we would definitely stay here again! Great for families or couples.
We liked staying here. It was definitely different than a hotel or hostel. More like a house vacation rental. You sign a contract and pay a deposit, which was promptly returned. ... the unit is centrally located, quiet (there is a shared bathroom which wasn't problematic since we only saw one other person in the building while we were there... it has funky decor, high ceilings and nice big windows for lots of sunlight...
We came to Eureka for a wedding and stayed here for three nights. The decor is exactly as pictured. We had no problems with the shared bathroom, although I'd recommend bringing your own paper products, as we ran out. I think other people were usin the bathroom (not hotel guests). Overall, everything was comfortable, spacious, and really cool! I'd stay here again for sure!
This place is like a mini suite. There is a comfortable King bed in a room off of the lounging area, and an ample pull out sofa bed. The shared bathroom is super close and was always clean and available. There was a space heater that kept us quite cozy. Plenty of blankets, towels, an electric kettle, and I think there was a french press...The bayview from the room was just enough to happily wake to - even if over the rooftops of the building across. We will definitely stay again when in Eureka. Perfect for 3 people. Many stairs, but we did not mind. Check in was a breeze and we hardly saw anyone. Humboldt Provisions is right outside for a tasteful food and beverage experience. Thanks again
I rented the California Cowboy room for my three daughters to while visiting for a family reunion. It worked perfect for them and was close to everything we were visiting. The management team was great.
We loved it! A perfect cozy location to wander the town. Amazing Oyster bar downstairs. Easy street parking
The California Cowboy was easy to navigate to and had parking options around it. The location is great- within walking distance to restaurants and bars in Old Town. It was the perfect place to stay on the way through town. The room was well kept and clean. It's on the third floor of the building- so pack light. There was a fan in the room, but no air conditioner so it didn't quite cool down over night. Comfortable bed. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it for a one-night option.
The location was wonderful, the building beautiful. There are a lot of stairs (3rd floor) but that wasn't a deterrent. It's a very old building and very echoey. We could hear people on both floors talking in normal voices. Otherwise, it's a very sweet little set of rooms. The shared bath was also very nice.
Great room w/ great location, right in downtown. Bed was also fantastic. Would absolutely stay here again if in Eureka.
I enjoyed my stay; cute place, good location. Loved the oyster bar downstairs on the corner. All good!
The rental was in an old building and was very different from a hotel but in a good way! Great area, quiet and peaceful, comfy and cozy. Shared bath was never an issue.
Beautiful Property and spacious room. Navigating the shared bathroom is a bit of a bother but not too bad as it's at least on the same floor as the room. Overall would recommend.
We loved this rental and wanted to move in! It was clean, well decorated, and centered right in Eureka.
A Beautiful place that feels very luxurious. Up on the 3rd floor so great sky views. Super comfy giant bed with soft linen - it was great to sleep here and very quiet too. Everything we needed was provided for, wine glasses, bottle opener, hair dryer, cotton buds etc. The toilet and shower were just across the hall, easy access and spacious. The only down side was that the shower wasnt as hot as i'd of liked it to be. But overall a great place to stay. Check in was super easy and all done over the phone. I tried to contact the property manager 3 times but never heard back once.
