Historic luxury estate frequented by Hollywood royalty w/ pool, spa - 2 dogs OK!

You'll walk in the footsteps of Hollywood royalty at this incredibly private, luxurious estate in the famous Movie Colony of Palm Springs. This historic property, built in 1929 in gorgeous Spanish Colonial style, was once owned by 20th Century Fox as a place to entertain its stars and later became the first desert home of John Phillips, the leader of The Mamas & The Papas. Over the course of its lifetime, the estate has been the five-star retreat of actors, Hollywood executives, and even Bugsy Segal himself, who is said to have gambled frequently in the detached casita.

The L-shaped floor plan encompasses nearly 5,000 square feet, with six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, and a center courtyard designed in the style of a Spanish hacienda. This century-old home is adorned with handmade red clay roof tiles, smooth plaster walls accented by native rock, as well as the original casement windows and light fixtures, all of which have contributed to its status as a Class 1 Historic Site designated by the City of Palm Springs in 2010.

The grounds are a wonder to behold, with mature hedges that ensure the utmost in privacy and only mountain ridgelines and swaying palms that rise above them. You can spend quiet days lounging by the sparkling swimming pool and spillover spa, feeling the soft grass beneath your feet, and grilling and dining in the various bistro sets positioned in courtyards around the property.

The interior is richly furnished, with a west wing that houses three of the bedrooms: a small suite, a large suite, and a master suite, each with its own bathroom. The east wing is home to the so-called Chauffeur Room, where you'll find a king-size bed, an en suite bathroom, and a private entrance. The fifth bedroom, the Sky Room, is located on the second floor, offering its own exterior access and lovely views of the mountains. The sixth bedroom awaits in the separate garden casita, known as the Casino Room for its storied history of star-studded poker tournaments. The casita features cathedral ceilings with exposed wood beams, the largest fireplace known in Palm Springs, and a bedroom with a king-size bed - there's even a secret lookout room that's accessed via the bedroom closet.

What's nearby:
This incredible Palm Springs estate is ideally located in the Movie Colony, next door to the Cary Grant home in a small enclave of private estates known as Las Hacenditas. You'll be just a few steps from Ruth Hardy Park, where you can play tennis each morning, and less than half a mile (a two-minute drive or a five-minute walk) from the heart of downtown Palm Springs. All along Palm Canyon Drive, you'll have your choice of great restaurants, shops, art galleries, mid-century modern antique shops, theaters, and nightlife. More than 100 world-class golf courses await in the surrounding area as well.

We absolutely LOVED this property!!! What a beautiful place to celebrate my mom's birthday. Thank you Vacasa!

This mission style home is amazing!!! It has great atmosphere, a feeling of history, and is also a cozy and warm location for a large family to gather! This is not just a fantastic home, it is also a beautiful estate with stunning and well tended grounds. The layout allowed for privacy and quiet bedrooms while entertaining in other areas. Our group ranged from 2 years old to 90 years old and everyone was happy here.

The pictures of this home do not do it justice. The grounds are meticulously maintained, with multiple private sitting or entertaining areas. The six bedrooms all offer privacy. The decor is made up of original art, hand crafted ceramics and period furniture. I highly recommend this home and will stay there again.

My guests and I loved the house and although there were some issues with the internet, cable, spa and dishwasher and we had to call a few times, the support team responded quickly are were able to resolve most of the issues. The first house we booked became unavailable due to water damage. Bunnie offered four options as replacements with no additional charge. She turned what could have been a disaster into a lovely upgrade. Arriving at the house and realizing how lucky we were that the other home wasn`t available. We drank a toast to Bunnie that night.

From booking with Alejandro who by the way is super sweet & helpful to arriving and having to call and speak with Katy in regards to no WiFi by the way Katie is also super sweet & helpful. We were treated like royalty. The estate was something out of a dream...old Hollywood to a tee. It is maintained to such a high level and we truly enjoyed all aspects of the rental. The WiFi was the only thing that didn`t work but that was due to an area outage and beyond the control of the rental company. We enjoyed playing games in the casino room by the fire on a rainy Monday with my family.

The home was absolutely gorgeous - what a treat to stay in a historic property filled with original art! The grounds were absolutely beautiful - thoughtfully planned and very well maintained. It was delightful to smell orange blossoms every time we walked the path from the driveway to the kitchen door, and we really appreciated the private patio off the master, which was a nice place to take morning coffee while enjoying hummingbird visits. We also loved the spaciousness of the property - what a luxury to have so many lovely in which to lounge! The teenagers in our group enjoyed having the Casino Room all to themselves, and the spacing of the rest of the bedrooms allowed everyone to feel that they had their own private space.

The size of both the home and the estate are superb! And the short walk to the shops and main streets were lovely.

My friends and I loved the spacious home and it`s many common areas. The kitchen was well-equipped and made our long-weekend of decadent meals easy to coordinate. The pool was perfectly sized and the patio area allowed us to alternate between great conversation in the shade and dips in the pool and spa.

It was the perfect amount of space and charm for our group of 12. We were in Palm Springs for a conference and it was so much better than staying in a hotel!! We were able to have outdoor workouts, have meals together in the dining room, and enjoy the beautiful gardens. it was perfect!

There were 12 of us, all family, including two little ones. The floor plan with great separation of space worked well for us. There were two adjoining rooms for kids and their parents and more secluded, separated rooms for the younger couples. Our master suite was sumptuous.
