Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate a trip to 584-acre Niquette Bay State Park, which sits on the north shores of Malletts Bay nine miles to the northeast. For eclectic urban culture, take a trip about eight miles south to Burlington, known for its microbreweries, liberal attitude, and as the birthplace of Ben & Jerry's ice cream. Visiting this area, as guests from Australia, we were delightfully surprised with this quaint cabin by the lakeside. Full of quirky decor items, plenty of seating and a well equipped kitchen, although the lack of a jug/kettle for boiling water was noticed. Use of washing machine and dryer in the basement were certainly appreciated. Recommend to all.

The home was warm and welcoming, very private and a beautiful way to get away from the busyness of everyday life! Everything was clean and spotless, the tv and internet worked perfectly- the view of the sunset was spectacular (much better from the lake house than it was from the boardwalk in Burlington!) I would definitely stay here again, next time I would stay for more than just the weekend! Very easy to feel at home and again, the privacy was great!

Highly recommend staying here vs. a hotel !!

Stayed here in late April for a few nights and very much enjoyed my time. The inside has a rustic appeal, is simple and functional. The house is basically right on Lake Champlain with beautiful views of the lake. A great place to sit out on an afternoon having a drink and watching the sunset over the mountains. The house is on a private road and the surroundings were very peaceful. Burlington itself is a quick and scenic 17 minute drive away. Would fully recommend as an affordable, relaxing getaway.

Four of us were on a fall foliage tour and decided to stay on Lake Champlain for a couple of night. The location of the Thayer House was superb and the view from the back yard and its beach was fantastic. Having one bathroom was a challenge but we managed. The TV did not have many channels and we were in te mood to watch some college football but ESPN was not one of their limited number of channels. I would certainly change that and also replaced the single bed I was in which had sort of a crown on it and if I didn't stay in the exact middle, I felt like I was falling off the side. They also need more pillows and the ones they had provided need replacing. But it is a quaint lake house and we enjoyed the ambiance.

Location and views were wonderdul, very clean and well stocked with towels, linens and kitchen amenities. One small drawback was that the walls are a bit thin so noise carry over between rooms. I was very comfortable and would definitely stay here again!

On a girls road trip through New England. This was a perfectly wonderful place. It was so close to nature, yet close to attractions around the area. Spending the evening watching the sun set on Lake Champlain was breathtaking. We knew God was magnificent. Even had pizza delivered that was yummy. Recommend this location

This was such a quaint cottage tucked away on a private beach right on the lake. We booked this last minute and were beyond surprised. Can't say enough great things!!!!

If you enjoy truly vintage places, this one is a gem. It's very clean; the owners have lovingly kept most of the original things, yet everything works! There is no air conditioning, but we didn't need it in September, and the heating worked beautifully. Simply gorgeous views of Lake Champlain throughout the front of the house. The outdoor area is great for sunset watching!

We really enjoyed our stay at this little cottage on the lake. It has a hunting/fishing vibe which is not my thing, but I did get a kick out of the great variety of vintage knick knacks around the house. My only complaints would be that the bathroom is carpeted (ew!) and the dishes are made of plastic and many are stained or worn down from overuse. But the location is really great, next to a sandy beach, on a quiet cul-de-sac. We also enjoyed the patio and fire pit right at the lake's edge.

Beautiful location, house was pretty bare bones. Nothing fancy or luxurious - but fine. Beds were comfortable. Didn't spend too much time here as we were visiting for our son's graduation from UVM. The weather was not the best, so we really didn't get to take advantage of the waterfront. Fine for our purpose.

This past weekend my girlfriend and I spent some time here for our first trip together to vermont. Upon first impression, the cottage was tucked back away from the heavier traffic in the area at the end of a dead end road which gave a nice private comfort to the abode. Once inside, the living room/entrance just puts you right into the picture perfect moment of being in a rustic/natural style cottage on the shore of Lake Champlain in Vermont with the rough cut wood througout the room and the stone fireplace (electric, no wood necessary) to the right, while the windows straight ahead frame out the lake with the mountain range just beyond it. Truly an amazing one of a kind place. The kitchen was quaint, clean, and we'll stocked as far as dishes and appliances go; the bedrooms all were roughly the same size, just different beds. Aside from within the cabin, the surrounding area was just as amazing. The people of colchester are very friendly; neighbors wave and smile as you drive past. A bit south of Colchester you'll find Burlington, which is a beautiful little city on the water (highly recommend the sun sets there) with tons of shops to explore and places to grab a bite within 20 minutes of the cottage. In addition, hitting the slopes on Bolton mountain was a blast; very cheap lift tickets, and a smaller, less crowded mountain allowed for more runs, on top of the great little restaurant with good beer and thin crust pizza on the second floor of the main lodge, and it was less than an hour drive away from the cottage! Definitely a place to experience at least once.
