Dog-Friendly Lakefront Cottage w/ Dock, Kayaks, Canoe, and Snowshoes

Experience everything the Boulder Junction area has to offer at this newly remodeled cottage located right on beautiful High Lake in Land O’ Lakes, Wisconsin. This rental is ideally situated at the gateway to year-round outdoor adventures, whether you're looking to get out on the water, explore the land, or race through the snow. This home features lakefront access with level fisherman frontage and a private dock, as well as two single kayaks, and a canoe to help you explore the 1,100-acre High Lake-Fishtrap chain and the 230,000-acre Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest that protects much of the lake's shoreline. At night, gather around the wood-burning fireplace to enjoy some cozy conversation, or unwind with a good book with your dogs curled up at your feet.

What's nearby:
Neighboring High Lake (accessible from a public boat landing) and Fishtrap Lake are both large, 40-foot-deep, clear water lakes located in Vilas County. Resident fish include Musky, Panfish, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike, and Walleye. The Manitowish River starts at High Lake and flows gently west where it joins the Bear River to form the North Branch of the Flambeau River. This 44-mile stretch of river is a designated NHAL canoe route.

For additional adventures, the Sylvania Wilderness, just a little over 18 miles away, is a beautiful 18,000-acre preserve that feels like a smaller version of the Boundary Waters. Old-growth forests and crystal clear lakes dominate the landscape here. This primitive wilderness is a great place to enjoy a day of fishing, paddling, and solitude. Take your pick of trails in the Ottawa National Forest less than 30 miles north, or walk through the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest just a few towns over to the east. You'll also find the paved, 52-mile Heart of Vilas County bike trail just five miles from your rental.

Plus, during the winter months, there are also more than 30 cross country ski sites, with over 300 miles of trails, all within 50 miles of the cottage!

Great location. Great view of the lake. Very clean. Bathroom was recently renovated. 10 out of 10 recommend.

Great view of sunrise well maintained and updated cabin parking is limited.

We have stayed in this cabin around the same time of year, for the past 3-years. It is always immaculate when we arrive and so comfortable and cozy. The (frozen) lake is fantastic for snowshoeing! Thanks again for another fantastic stay!

1st the positives - the cabin is very nice. Living area, bedrooms, bath, and kitchen are just fine. Location is good and right near the snowmobile trail.

Now the negative - Response time to questions was way too slow and inaccurate. I started the booking process on Mon 20th, sent emails with specific questions about room to part 2 trucks and 2 trailers. I received a canned response so I asked the question again. Didn’t hear anything and I was urgently trying to get something rented before everything disappeared back. I could risk not having a place to stay so I confirmed booking on the 24th. Late on the 24th response I got was there is no way you will fit a truck and 18' trailer. Being that there was a no refund policy we were basically locked in and decided that we would just deal with the hassle of parking our trailers 8.5 miles away downtown.

On Friday I received a text with check-in info that says there is room for 3 vehicles and a trailer. They also sent me information that this property shares a driveway with the neighbor, don't block it, stay on our property, etc. Once you get to the cabin you find a list of all kinds of other rules which are not disclosed up front. When I got to the cabin I saw that the parking was tight, but I was able to get my trailer parked. My buddy, who has the same trailer, was able to fit his in there too.

CAUTION: The dial for the oven doesn't work. It cooks way hotter than what you set it for. Set it to 425 and it went to 550.

Vacasa charges are a little steep, cleaning fee is way over priced and they ask you to do your dishes, what is the cleaning fee for then? The added on "cleaning fee", "booking fee" + "service fee" bring the cost up substantially.

I'm sure most people will find this place charming and quaint, but it is not suited for trucks and trailers in the winter.
Manager response:
Thank you for taking the time to share your review with us, Michael. We are happy to hear you overall enjoyed your stay and the convenient location of our home. We do apologize for the delay in communication. We are actively adding new members to our team so that we can quickly assist guests. As indicated in our listing and check-in emails, there is parking for three vehicles, and trailer parking is available as well. A work order has been made for our maintenance team to fix the oven that is not operating correctly. We hope to have another chance to impress you!

We loved the view of the lake and the cozy fireplace. Perfect for a weekend getaway. We felt right at home immediately!
Bethany R. Sep 2021
Cozy and charming house and the lake view was so peaceful and relaxing, would stay again.

This had a waterfront access including a canoe and kayak. We had a firepit and gas grill to use. We docked our rented boat here. The cabin had any amenity you might need - a very well stocked kitchen and bathroom. We had enough linens, blankets, fans, games, books - we never turned the TV on. We were close enough to Boulder Junction for provisions. Lots of great restaurants to choose from. A great stay for us and our dogs!

The cabin we stayed in was clean and cozy. The pictures posted on VRBO do not do it justice. Very cute and updated. The owners made it especially cozy with all of the added amenities. These included a prepped campire pit ready for lighting, stocked wood for a wood stove, shampoo and conditioners for shower, extra pillows, fans, coffee. You name it. They thought of it. Wonderful stay.
Lena B. Mar 2021
It was a very clean, cute place to stay. They had games and everything you would need. The decor was adorable and the beds were very comfortable. Just an overall great cabin to stay at! Highly recommend

This cabin is very well maintained and thoughtfully updated. Beautiful spot on High Lake. Very convenient to Boulder Junction, Presque Isle and Land O' Lakes. Love the snowshoes provided for hiking on the frozen lake.
Gregory B. Feb 2021
They really did a great job flipping this into a cute rental. It's tiny but it's cozy. The view was great, the decor was excellent, and the location was close to so many great activities. Cross country skiing, snowmobiling, downhill skiing, you name it. Would definitely go back to this place if we were ever in the area again. Thanks again!
MATTHEW O. Feb 2021
This cabin was perfect for a winter getaway with our kids. It was clean and cozy and had a perfect location close to the snowmobile trails. We will definitely be back! Thanks VRBO!
Ryan H. Feb 2021
My girlfriend and I spend a great winter weekend hear snowmobiling and warming up in front of the fire with our dogs in the evening. We’re planning on coming back in the summer!
Anna M. Jan 2021
This was our second stay at the cottage and hopefully not our last! It was a quick drive to go snowshoeing in Sylvania Wilderness, and we had a nice quiet walk on the ice on High Lake. Cozy fireplace and a fully stocked kitchen so we didn’t have to venture out into public restaurants during the pandemic.
Anna M. Oct 2020
Such a cozy cabin. Perfect size for me, my husband, and our toddler for a long weekend. The cabin is fairly close to a neighboring cabin to the west, but the trees along the property line give enough seclusion for it to feel mostly private. The cabin was clean and comfortable. We hope to return!
Carol F. Oct 2020
Great place to stay for a long weekend or a week! Nicely furnished cabin on a quiet lake, has everything you need.
Mary k. Aug 2020
Beautiful property and lovely yard. Cabin was very clean. We saw eagles and loons every day. Lake view was spectacular. We would definitely stay here again.
Lynda P. Jun 2020
Cottage is adorable and clean. Updated, well stocked. Took out the row boat. Fire wood and other things provided very nice. Tell people there is no swimming and offer directions to nearest beach. One mouse too. :( Gross.
Becky S. Jun 2020
The cabin itself is super cute and updated. It has everything we needed (minus s’more sticks). The beds were super comfortable and the WiFi fast. We appreciated the games and TV as it rained most of our trip. The views of the lake are beautiful. The reason I gave the home 4 stars was because the lake is unusable from the house. The shore was all mud and dead fish so we had to keep our dogs on leashes and didn’t dare use the canoes. The fishing off the dock was good though.
Thanks for letting us stay. It was a nice getaway.
Eric R. Feb 2020
Cabin was super-clean, well-organized and decorated. Really great fireplace. Great updated bathroom. Location is wonderful, so close to charming Boulder Junction.

Our dog loved the fenced yard and we all enjoyed snowshoeing with her out on frozen High Lake!
Robert H. Feb 2020
Its was just the right size. Private and quiet. And very nice view.
Chad P. Jan 2020
It was exactly how it was described. Easy to find nice and peaceful. The ice fishing was perfect pulled northern and perch.
Haley P. Sep 2019
Perfect weekend getaway in the cutest cabin! Great scenery and close drive to local small town. Perfect couples weekend away.
Josh J. Sep 2019
Had a wonderful time. Fishing for panfish was great, perfect for the kids. The location of the home is great, close to some of the bigger towns if you need something else to do. The house had many nice extras, like yard games. Beautiful area, easy flat access to the dock.
Susan . Feb 2019
Cute anc cozy cottage, enjoyed our stay! Excellent! Have rented several times and are happy with the homes and the service. The cottage is very cozy but on the small side. Perfect for a couples getaway.
