Oceanview Home Overlooking Boothbay Harbor & the Footbridge - Dogs OK

Experience historic charm with plenty of modern comfort at this dog-friendly Boothbay Harbor vacation rental, a three-bedroom home with beautiful ocean views, a private deck, and an ideal harbor-facing location for families and couples.

Wonderfully situated only steps from the pedestrian bridge that connects the eastern and western shores of Boothbay Harbor, this two-level cottage is within a quarter-mile of restaurants, shops, art galleries, and recreational outfitters. You'll have easy access to the thriving activity of this popular town, as well as scenic harbor views to come home to.

Built in 1864, this historic home has been lovingly maintained and updated, creating a bright and tidy space for as many as five guests and one family dog (for a small nightly fee).

Step through the front door into the newly refinished kitchen, a cheerful and sunny room with hardwood floors, a butcher block island, and granite countertops. Whether you plan to prepare full family dinners or pick up fresh lobster rolls from Boothbay Lobster Wharf just down the road, you'll find stainless steel appliances (including a dishwasher) to make cooking and cleaning a breeze.

There's space for the entire family around the country dining room table, but don't forget about the deck on pristine summer afternoons. Fire up the gas grill to cook some fresh local haddock, and enjoy your meal around the patio table.

Back inside, the cozy living room is the perfect place to curl up with a novel or spend the evening playing a board game with your kids. And with soft carpeting and comfortable seating, you'll be able to relax in absolute comfort while watching a family favorite on the flatscreen cable TV.

And if you're worried about leaving your work at home, don't be. There's a desk in the downstairs bedroom, as well as WiFi to keep you in touch.

With three bedrooms, one full bathroom, and one half-bath, the Captain's Cottage can accommodate as many as five guests. Upstairs, you'll find a master bedroom with a king-size bed and a guest room with two twins; both rooms have private TVs and one even has a remote-controlled air conditioning unit for warm summer nights. The full upstairs bathroom also has an elegant claw-foot tub.

On the main floor, you'll find a third bedroom with a twin bed, as well as a half-bathroom with a private washer/dryer for any wet or salty clothes.

Once home to shipbuilders and lobster canneries, the charming town of Boothbay Harbor is now an epicenter of yachting, whale-watching, and other coastal activities. Spend the day at the Maine State Aquarium just three miles west, or get to know the friendly guides at Tidal Transit Kayak on an excursion to Burnt Island, Damariscove Island, or Ram Island.

And if you're looking to bring home some tuna, cod, and haddock of your own, book a full- or half-day fishing excursion with Blackjack Sportfishing, the operator of which also owns the Captain's Cottage.

The charm, history, and serene coastal landscapes of Boothbay Harbor await - reserve this Southern Maine vacation rental today!

Just across from the foot bridge to restaurants, shopping and docks.

When we seniors arrived to our much anticipated vacation home with my brother and his wife, we were instantly dismayed that the outside of the home was in much rougher shape than in the photos. The paint was all peeling and the siding, the front porch as well as the furniture on it were filthy. The landscaping was nothing but weeds. The grill and trash cans were muddy and there was garbage around the can. We had to park in the space behind the house in mud and dirt, as there was no driveway of any kind. Just the lawn, which was so easily tracked into the house. When we went inside, we were pleased with the remodeled kitchen in this 1800’s home. We expected, due to its age, that it would have character, which it did. But there were cobwebs in the ceilings and on the light fixtures and the living room furniture was uncomfortable and old. The couch was very dirty and needs replaced. There was a nice washer and dryer in the downstairs bathroom, but it took an abnormally long time to wash and dry anything. We did find that the dryer vent was nearly completely stopped up on the outside of the house. The upstairs bedrooms were plain, but the beds were comfortable. However, the photos in their ad stated there were two beds in one of the upstairs bedrooms, which was not the case. Instead there was a queen bed in that room. This was unfortunate, as my husband is disabled and must have his own bed with me near him through the night. Another problem, and a big one for us older adults was the claw foot bathtub in the upstairs bathroom. Although very cute to look at, It was small with a somewhat rounded bottom and high sides, which made it difficult to get in and out of. Plus there was no safety bar to hold on to and the shower curtain stuck to you when you closed it. Both spouses had to help their partner during the showers and it wasn’t easy. We found that the upstairs had no heat and some of the nights were very chilly. The bed linens and towels were nice and clean. We liked the vintage cast iron door stop collection. The photos of the home definitely need updated on the site and this home would be amazing with some much needed exterior cleaning and painting. It would also be beneficial if there could’ve been a shower somewhere, like maybe in the downstairs bathroom. (?). This home is definitely the eye sore of the neighborhood and doesn’t look like the others around it in this beautiful little town. I hope the owners take these suggestions to heart.

Away from the crowds yet easy walking access to town amenities. Lovely walkway.
Cottage is charming. Steps to second floor are steep, but overall it's a wonderful easy location. Genuine.

This home is in need of repair. Bathroom with shower is a disaster.

Best thing about this house was the location. Everything else was terrible. House looks nothing like the pictures online. From the outside, it’s a shamble - looks like no one has taken care of it in years. The inside was just as bad. Filthy. Cobwebs everywhere, the shower curtain is as old as the house and never been cleaned, the cabinets were dirty, and the couch was dirty. Worst VACASA/VRBO I’ve ever stayed…and this was not an inexpensive house. If the owners would give it a little TLC, it could be a great home. For now, I’d recommend you consider other options.
Manager response:
We are so sorry, Wendy. The shower curtain has been replaced, but we found the rest of the home and furniture in great shape. Hopefully we can better impress you next time.

This home has the most perfect location for Boothbay Harbor. Being located right at the footbridge, it offers the best of both worlds: a quiet neighborhood and the opportunity for "tourist life" right across the footbridge. The kitchen is well stocked, with up-to-date appliances, and the home is comfortable. The towels are hotel quality!! Shower takes a tad getting used to but works with great water pressure. Downstairs bedroom needs a door but doable. We never turned on a TV but there are 3; one in the Livingroom and each of the two upstairs bedrooms. Would return!!!!!!!!!!

We enjoyed Boothbay Harbor & the region and this house was a great launching spot. Good size, well appointed kitchen, lovely view of the bridge and harbor. Wish we could have stayed longer

wonderful place to visit and great location with easy walk to town.
Ian Roy S. Jun 2021
Very handy to footbridge and amenities
Rosemarie V. May 2021
The view was fantastic. House lovely, quaint and cozy. Claw foot bathtub was appropriate to historical features of house, but was only negative aspect for practicality.
James O. May 2021
access to downtown by foot

Nice well equipped rental. Detergent, towels, kitchen supplies, etc. provided. Very clean with modern appliances. Great location, private parking. We were out of season to take advantage of the shops and restaurants (that are within walking distance) but it was centrally located for us to tour up and down the Maine coast.
Christina V. Sep 2020
This house is in just the right spot and is just the right size. We spent a lot of time on the wonderful front porch watching boats in the harbor, people passing by, and even a man on a horse with his dog following behind! Beds were just right, everything was clean, and there was ample space to spread out. We enjoyed every part of the house and it’s location. We loved the quaint town and harbor. Everyone was so friendly and our meals out were delicious. We truly hope to get back to The Captain’s Cottage. It was one of our favorite rentals thus far. Thank you so much!
deborah k. Aug 2020
The house was nice and well situated, just across the footbridge, within walking distance of everything including a cute beach. Very easy booking, as well as check in and out (all contactless). Found the house perfectly clean. We would definitely stay there again.
Ron S. Jun 2020
24 Atlantic has views of the harbor and footbridge and a great neighborhood feel yet walk across the footbridge to everything Boothbay Harbor has to offer. We loved the house , the deck and would highly recommend the location .
Linda J. Oct 2019
Perfect place for a girls get away.
Stephanie B. Sep 2019
We loved our stay at this lovely spotless historic home in the heart of Boothbay. The location is perfect, located right across from the Boothbay Harbor walking bridge. The home is charming and so peaceful for a central location.
Gregg Z. Aug 2019
Excellent location close to everything. Perfect view and house had everything we needed.
William V. Aug 2019
Great place to stay in Boothbay Harbor. Location is fantastic and the home is a quaint, comfortable cottage with a very nice porch to look out over the harbor and relax. Easy access to the "downtown" and great restaurants and shopping.
Corrine G. Jun 2019
The home was charming decorated with antiques that gave it an ole time Maine feel. It was very clean and well maintained. Our dog was welcomed there which was helpful. Washer and dryer a plus. Happened to meet the owner who was a very nice lady. Perfect location across from the footbridge that leads right into the downtown and harbor area. The only thing is because this home was built in the 1849 (I think), the stairs that lead to the upstairs bathroom, bedrooms might be a slight challege for someone who has a challenge with stairs. We were fine with it ourselves. I did email Vacasa a question and did not get a response. That is not a reflection on the home itself. Highly recommended home.
Manager response:
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, Corrine. We are so pleased to hear you enjoyed the home. We apologize for any delay in response to your inquiry. Our Guest Services team is also available by phone 24/7 to assist with any immediate questions or concerns. We look forward to hosting you again soon!

The cottage was situated right by the pedestrian bridge so we could walk to restaurants and shops. The cabin was beautifully furnished with lots of personal touches. The heating was a blessing as we arrived during a cold snap
Nita B. Jun 2019
Fabulous old house- updated appliances- great w/d, awesome location! Would stay there again and again. Walk into town- the best! Thank you Vacasa

A beautiful, older cottage with a great location, beautiful views, and very nice amenities for a stay in Boothbay Harbor. Our family had a great stay here. Comfortable house with a very nice kitchen, laundry facilities (which is great for a week's stay), and you are right on top of the Footbridge when you walk out the front door. Only slight drawback is no ceiling fans, but that is the only thing negative we can say about the place. We highly recommend staying here, if you are planning a trip to Boothbay Harbor. My family will be looking to stay here again if/when we return to Boothbay Harbor in a year or two,
Erin C. Jul 2018
The Captain's Cottage couldn't be better located. It is so convenient to walking around Boothbay Harbor- all the shops, galleries, restaurants, and even Barrett's Park. The home has a lovely porch with views of the harbor and footbridge and a nice kitchen. We also appreciated the gas grill to have a cookout, and the cottage was sparkling clean.

As an old home, the cottage has a lot of quirks like doors that don't close or need a good slam to close, and one bedroom with no door at all. There were no fans available for the rooms without a/c, and we had a couple of stuffy nights. This was not ideal for a trip with a toddler but may not be an issue for others. All in all, this is a wonderful home in an excellent location for enjoying a visit to Boothbay.
Ed H. Oct 2017
This small three bedroom is ideal. It is comfortable (we slept well), clean, has all the amenities and is in a terrific location. We walked "downtown" for meals, shopping and other attractions. Shawn, the maintenance man is responsive and knowledgeable about the minor issues we had (and is a nice guy).
Sherri C. Sep 2017
This house is older and beautiful. Lots of charm! Super location too. This house was perfect for my family of four with college age kids. We were very comfortable. Super Wifi. Very nice kitchen and it was very well stocked for us with essentials. The downstairs bedroom does not have a door to the bedroom but still seems private due to location. Perfect size house for reconnecting with your family. Walk up the street to Atlantic Edge and buy lobsters for dinner! Highly Recommend!!
Kristina D. Aug 2017
We love it here!
Jennifer A. Aug 2017
What a happy little house. We had 5 adults and one dog stay and play in Boothbay for 4 nights. The house worked very well and we used the heck out of the front porch. Nicely updated kitchen, bright and sunny with nice paint colors in the bedrooms. My only dislike was the claw foot tub/shower. Most people find them charming, but I think it's like showering inside a garment bag. Caution folks when getting in to not turn on shower head until you have the curtain closed otherwise there's a mess. The Vacasa gift bag was really helpful with trash bags, PT, TP and shampoo. Very clean. I would stay here again.
Cleve B. Jul 2017
There was only one full bath upstairs and a half bath downstairs . Other than that we liked the home. The location was very good with just a short walk across the footbridge to most of the shops, pubs, and restaurants.
Yanli J. Jul 2017
We enjoyed our stay very much at the Capitain's cottage. The best thing about it is its location, close to all the restaurants, bars, and shops... every morning we sat on the front porch and deank coffee and watch people passing by, really relaxing and comfortable.

Would definitely rent again if we go back to Noothbay Harbor!
Tracy K. Jul 2017
We had an absolutely amazing week in Boothbay and for first time visitors the location of the Captain's Cottage could not have been better in terms of easy access by car and foot to all the local amenities. The off street parking and general set up of the property worked very well for our family of 4 and was far enough away from most of the activity that it was pretty quiet at night as well.
The only drawback for us was the main bath, which could use some updating, but if you are smaller stature person then the shower would probably be fine.
All in all, I would highly recommend this property to anyone coming to explore Boothbay.
Theresa D. Jul 2017
Had a wonderful stay with my family! Great location for walking to restaurant and shops . House was very nice! Can't wait to return!
Diana P. Oct 2016
We will go back again. Perfect place to rent!!!
Edith M. Oct 2016
Close to everything. If it's your first visit to the Harbor, it's perfect. Smaller than I first thought but has great views, perfect for coffee on the porch, Wifi works great, nice kitchen,
David H. Oct 2016
Great location
Gary P. Sep 2016
A truly delightful home, decorated beautifully with hardwood floors, new appliances, and a wonderful front porch to watch the bay and interact with the friendly people walking by. Close to town via the walkway right across the street. Many activities available that are dog friendly. A perfect place for a vacation!
Kristina D. Aug 2016
This was a great property for us and our dog. Highly recommended.
Gregory A. Aug 2016
Great location and a newly renovated house. Steps away from the Footbridge. I would highly recommend
Mary J. Aug 2016
We had such a wonderful vacation! The location is amazing...right across from The Footbridge! Walk to everything! The house has everything you need to enjoy a relaxing break!
Thomas B. Jul 2016
Very nice place, good location. Clean and comfortable.
Winifred B. Jul 2016
Disappointed with "3rd bedroom." No door, no shade on window and no closet or place to hang clothes. This really is not a bedroom and offers no privacy with a location adjacent to living room.

No AC in upstairs bedroom as advertised either.

Dvd player for movie watching would be a nice addition to living room TV.

Great location, though!
Charlotte B. Jul 2016
Great location, modern kitchen with many amenities, comfortable and cozy
Judith C. Jul 2016
This is a terrific place to stay for access to the best.on Boothbay Harbor village. Others.struggle to find a place to park, while guests here are a quick stroll across the footbridge.
