Make Fairbanks your next getaway

Set at 65 degrees north latitude in Alaska's interior — the Golden Heart of the Last Frontier — Fairbanks is one of the world's great bucket-list destinations. Directly beneath the auroral oval, it's the best place in the United States to witness the northern lights, with aurora season spanning an extraordinary nine months of the year.

Our experience was good. The place was comfortable, cozy, and sunny. It also has a good parking space and the location was central to our activities.

This VRBO was very nicely equipped and comfortable. It's located on quiet street but not to far from everything. I even got to see the Northern Lights from right outside the door! That was super exciting. The owner is very attentive and has the cutest dogs!! We will be visiting Fairbanks more often and always look for availability at this location. Thanks and we look forward to returning!!

Phenomenal Alaskan cabin with an exceptional host! Carl was very responsive, provided great recommendations, and went above any expectation my wife and I had with our first Airbnb experience. The cabin was gorgeous and well placed providing both a private feel while being close to the town conveniences. We loved being able to use the fireplace and the interior was breathtaking. Very close to both dog sledding and the reindeer ranch. We highly recommend this cabin and will be again in the future!

But the magic doesn't stop at night — Fairbanks also delivers 70 straight days of midnight sun, world-class dog mushing, Denali access, and an authentic Alaskan character unlike anywhere else.

What you'll love about Fairbanks

Fairbanks sits directly beneath the auroral oval, which gives it an 80% aurora viewing chance on any clear night between August and April — the best odds in the United States. Chena Hot Springs' geothermal pools are one of Alaska's most beloved natural attractions, and the combination of 70 straight days of midnight sun in summer and extreme winter darkness creates two entirely different and equally compelling travel experiences.

The University of Alaska Museum of the North, dog mushing culture, and Denali access complete a destination unlike anywhere else in the country.

Local tips

Northern lights, midnight sun, and the Last Frontier's golden heart

Stay at least four nights. The aurora doesn't perform on command, but Fairbanks's odds are as good as anywhere on earth. Soak at Chena Hot Springs under the lights, mush a dog team through the boreal forest, and go somewhere you'll be talking about for the rest of your life. Book your vacation rental and start exploring.
