Recent Kona guest reviews

Love the location. Very easy to walk to beaches, town, pier….Kona parking is expensive now so the location is even better than before . Second stay in this unit

We loved our stay in Kealakekua Bay! This home is well cared for and clean. The view of the bay is lovely, as is the lanai in the back garden. The layout of the home is definitely funky but our two family group (4 adults 3 kids) made it work. I’d probably hesitate to book again with the second “adult” room being detached in the basement but otherwise we really enjoyed our stay. The beach is right there, and we swam, explored tide pools and viewed the remnants of the village which is down the road. All very cool! It was nice being close enough to get to captain cook and south Kona but being kind of secluded in the quiet bay made for a peaceful retreat

Why vacation in Kona?

Kona is a place where tradition meets beach days. You’ll find historic heiau (temples), royal heritage sites, and scenic drives surrounded by lava fields, all just minutes from world-class snorkeling, fishing, and beachcombing. This side of the island stays dry and sunny year-round, making it the go-to destination for outdoor activities like kayaking, hiking, and sunset cruising. It’s also the heart of the island’s famous coffee belt, with scenic farms offering tours and tastings along the slopes of Hualālai volcano. While Kailua-Kona offers the hustle and harbor, the greater Kona District stretches out into peaceful coastal communities, upland rainforests, and oceanfront adventures.

Where to stay in the Kona District

Vacation rentals in Kona range from ocean-view condos in Kailua town to hillside homes nestled into the coffee-growing regions of Hōlualoa and Captain Cook. Whether you’re looking for beach access, privacy, or space to host a group, you’ll find a wide variety of options with island character and stunning vistas. Many rentals feature lanais with sunset views, outdoor showers, and access to both coastline and volcanically rich uplands, all within driving distance of shopping, farmers markets, beaches, and cultural sites.

Let Kona set your island rhythm

Kona invites you to embrace the Big Island’s slow, sunny side. It’s where mornings start with fresh local brew, days are filled with ocean breeze and adventure, and evenings end with fiery sunsets and the sound of waves on lava rock shores. Whether you’re coming for Kona’s coffee, culture, or coastlines, this is where your Hawaiian experience finds its natural rhythm.
