Check with your town and Sonoma County’s planning office to find out what you need to rent your home short term. In addition to permit requirements, vacation rental homeowners must acquire a Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) certificate and a business license to operate. When they book, guests will pay a 9 percent TOT, with the possible addition of other local taxes and fees.
