Absolutely gorgeous townhouse with amazing views of the mountains

First of all, before I explain my low rating, let me say that this place is absolutely gorgeous!!! Villas of Kamalli, unit #27 is as lovely in person as it is in pictures – upgraded details, tasteful island décor, and great amenities. The towels were nice; there was a wonderful array of beach “stuff” (beach towels, chairs, umbrellas, ice chests, boogie boards, etc.); and little extras like toiletries, paper towels, and coffee were greatly appreciated. Moreover, Vacasa was great about the few problems that did arise (replacing a broken blender, bringing a spatula). It was, I thought, everything I could possibly want in a Hawaiian vacation rental. WAS. Despite the beauty of the unit and its surroundings, I regret to say that I would NEVER stay at the Villas of Kamalli again. Why? Because of the overbearing HEAT!
Everyone knows to expect warm weather when visiting one of the islands, that the humidity can be awful, especially in summer. And I know humidity. We’ve made summer trips to Oahu, New Orleans, Mississippi, and Puerto Vallarta (where even your knees sweat); additionally, I have family that I regularly visit (in summer) in Arkansas. So why was our Kauai trip so particularly impacted by the heat? Because on all of our previous trips to humid climes, our residences were air-conditioned!
I understand that the vast majority of places in Kauai and Maui do not have air conditioning and that tourism continues, nevertheless; after this trip, though, I fail to understand how. This unit at the Villas of Kamalli was so hot that it was unbearable! While there was some relief from the oppressive temperatures in the mornings and after nine at night, our residence NEVER cooled off enough to be comfortable. Cooking was almost impossible; even eating was miserable as, since there was no table outdoors, we had dine amidst the stifling humidity inside. Moreover, even though things finally cooled off by bedtime, we were still unable to sleep. Had it not been for the threat of carbon monoxide poisoning, I would have slept in the car where there was some a/c! The only way I could sleep was to position a fan to hit my side of the bed and then lay down covered by a wet towel. On two nights, I slept outside on the balcony.
I understand that the owners of this property cannot wave their hands and produce a breeze; however, even if they had possessed that ability, I have to wonder how much it would have helped. With very few windows on the main floor that actually open (and no windows at all on the east or west walls), I have to wonder if we would have been cool had the Trades been present. To support this theory I will point to the fact that we had about a dozen fans going non-stop the entire time we were there; they made little to no difference – that is, unless you consider that we could never hear the TV or each other over all of the fan noise!
While installing A/C might be expensive (and even impossible at Villas of Kamalli as it is against CC&R’s to have any kind of fixture protruding away from the outside walls, windows, or roof!), I do not understand why the owner of this unit wouldn’t install an all-house fan or a couple of portable A/C units! We almost bought one! We seriously entertained the idea of buying one on Amazon and just leaving it here for the next visitors!
Maybe we were stupid to visit the island in summer; maybe we were just stupid for renting a property without A/C! One thing is certain, for our next trip (which is already booked for summer of 2020), we have booked a room at a development that offers central air conditioning. It’s ok that this other property is more expensive; it will be worth it to be able to sleep at night! It’s too bad, really as I would have come back to Villas of Kamalli – and Unit #27, in particular - in a minute had it not been so unbearably hot. I have absolutely nothing else to say about the unit that is negative. Unfortunately, the one negative – in this case the lack of a/c – completely outweighs all of the positives. Seriously think twice before you rent here. Make sure you are guaranteed good winds and that you have a better tolerance for the heat than we do!
Manager response:
Thank you for your feedback from your stay, Kimberly. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed you stay with the exception of the AC. We encourage guests to contact our 24/7 Guest Service agents for any questions they may have with their reservation (fees, instructions, amenities, etc.). We also encourage guests to select the amenities they would like in the home when booking., then homes with those selections (AC, pool, hot tub, ocean front, etc. ) will populate the search. Thank you again for your feedback and we look forward hosting you again in the future.

Villa was immaculate with garage and lots of little extras. Very well maintained. Only downside was no ac but it did cool down at night with fans in every room. Would love to return again.

The condo was fantastic except for one thing NO AIR CONDITIONING! These condo are fantastic large, plenty of room the location is very nice, next to the golf course, close to beaches, and close to Hanalei. The condo was well furnished the grounds are well kept, the pool was great. I would definitely recommend, however, Kauai is very wet and humid, and Air Conditioning is must, for that reason only I can't give it a five star rating.

Great location, loved the pool and the people we ran into there. House was nice, wish we could have had air conditioner without the extra cost since it was the hot part of the season...fans didn't do it justice.
