This is my second time to stay here, and it was just as nice the second time!
We loved the comfortable bed and bedding. The house cooled quickly and comfortably.
'Loved the history of this Sunday House. It was well cared for and extremely clean and comfortable. The OAK TREE! What a treat to see the size of the tree and wonder about its age. At this site we actually saw a herd of deer and heard an owl in the evening.
Very nice little house. Access is a little inconvenient if you have limited mobility.
I loved the location to Main Street and the front porch. If you like to walk and leave your car parked, this is a good house to book.
The cottage is very conveniently located a few blocks from Main Street. There was road noise at night but it didn't bother us. It was very clean!!! The bed was big and comfy! The only complaint was that my husband barely fit in the shower, he's 6 ft and 2XL. Great first visit to Fredericksburg!
We loved our cute little house. The bed was SO COMFORTABLE! Shared the bed with my mom and we both agreed that it was the best sleep we’d had in a long time. We love a cold room so we we’re also thankful for the box fan left in the closet. The pastry was such a yummy surprise and a wonderful morning treat. The gorgeous old oak tree outside was such a majestic sight that we had to get pictures. Would definitely stay here again.
We loved the entire historical ambience, it only lacked a few details that were forgivable, lol
(Needs good coffee, better/fresh coffee condiments) but this place was clean as a whistle though!
Great location and very clean.
Great little house..loved the town.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the charming Oak House. The only two drawbacks were that the house faces a busy road, which can get quite loud around 7 in the morning if you’re trying to sleep in, however it is quiet during the night. The other issue was that the toilet was finicky. The tank wouldn’t fill up with water on the first flush, but give it just a minute more and it worked fine. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this house to anyone who plans to get up early and explore the town!
We enjoyed our stay. It was our 1st time booking a house vs a hotel. The house was clean and functional. They even left a treat for us. We enjoyed having the place to ourselves for sure
Quiet neighborhood and remind me of tiny homes!
Even better than when we stayed 25+ years ago. Then called "The Little Yellow House."
Walking distance from Main St. Had a great time!
The house was so quaint and comfortable. There was a freshly baked pastry waiting for us upon arrival, along with maps and guides for local Fredericksburg attractions. The shower is in fact extremely small, but the water was hot and there was plenty of it. The bed was a little springy for my boyfriend's taste, but I thought it was comfortable. I will definitely plan to come back when it's warmer to take advantage of the adorable front porch.
The house was quaint and clean. Too close to a noisy road though. The shower was terrible. The shower head would not stay in position even after moving it. Other wise it was a comfortable place. The bed was comfortable for sure.
This wasn't our first choice but it is what was available for our last minute trip. "Quiet" is a big priority for us and we knew there would be noise issues being on a fairly hi traffic street and we are light sleepers but we slept pretty well in spite of it. Nice to have the coffee cake waiting for us and assortment of drinks available. No hairdryer but they did have the softest sheets I have ever slept on. The down comforter was too hot so we had to turn the a/c down to 65 to sleep and the bed was comfy. We laughed about feeling like we were sleeping in the middle of the street but we did sleep. No insulation at all to the building and it is not as immaculate and beautiful as other places we have stayed but it was fine. Really, no big issue.
It is soooooo cute! Just 2 blocks from Main street shopping and restaurants/wine tasting. They leave a fresh Pastry for Breakfast the next morning that is to die for. Along with milk, juice, cereal. The tiles in the kitchen and Bath are awesome. The linens are of very good quality. And there is a FRONT PORCH that was so fun to sit on. Kind of like a semi B & B, has a kitchenette and they leave your bfast. You arrive to lights and music on. Even has a BBQ and bistro table set out back. The few downsides are the front sits on a road that has alot of steady traffic for a residential area, and the mosquitoes were biting on that cute porch. But overall the cuteness/quaintness outweighs the few negatives. Great memory!
Clean, cozy, & great location. I would definitely book here again!
I would never stay here again. The entry steps are too steep. The shower is too small. The bedroom is next to a noisy street. There is no security or good locks to prevent intruders. The television is chained to a dresser. Vacasa’s management is good, but the property is a dump.
Very close to Main Street made it easy access to walk to restaurants and shops. The house was lovely the added bonus was the coffee and breakfast goodies provided.
The Oak House was a quaint German Haus. Exceptionally clean and very nicely decorated. Was very, quiet, comfortable and homey. Within 2 blocks of the main street. We would definitely book again.
This was my first time staying here. I am glad I chose the Oak House. It provided the privacy I wanted for the weekend. It was clean and nice and cool. A wonderful place to stay for a relaxing weekend.
We would absolutely stay here again! It was perfect for a mini vaca in Fredericksburg and we could walk to downtown.
We LOVED staying at this house. It was very private, beautifully appointed and very comfortable. The proximity to town was awesome; once we parked our car we never got back in. We would rebook this home and recommend it to others.
We found The Oak House when looking for a new place to stay for a quick getaway to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and we loved our stay. It was the perfect location, a private home that let us cook our first night there and we found everything we could need. Thank you for a wonderful place to relax and celebrate!
We loved our stay at the Oak House. Comfortable, clean, easy walking distance to main street. We loved the puzzles and scrabble. Thank you!
toilet tank wouldn't fill so they fixed it. Local staff didn't seem a to be familiar with the property. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend the old house to others.
Oak House was very charming. Everything we needed was provided. Yes, however, the shower is small. We needed assistance operating the TV and called Lissa. She came right over and showed these two old ladies how to work it. Thank you again, Lissa. Enjoy the old charm of this Sunday House. We sure did!
House is quaint and charming. Enjoyed the location, walking distance to local attractions.
Booked for a birthday get away in and around Fredericksburg Wineries. Upon booking, I was called to make sure we had entry information, where I also asked about early check in since we'd be out and about at the wineries for most of the day. The staff was more than accommodating and even called us the day of, hours before 'official' check in to let us know we could get in. The Oak House itself was incredibly cute and comfy. I would absolutely recommend to anyone staying in Fredericksburg for the weekend! (My only disclaimer is that there is not an official side walk that goes all the way up Milam to main.)
Cute house! Agree with other review, street noise a little loud and small shower. But we locked ourselves out of the house and the owners were very responsive as quick to let us back in. Def recommend!
We enjoyed our stay at the Oak House on a recent visit to Fredericksburg. The house is small but perfect for a couple. The bathroom has been recently updated, don’t be scared off by the reviews about the shower - it’s small, but workable and has good water pressure. We’d happily stay here again and recommend it for your next visit to town.
Very convenient location in walking distance to west main and easy in and out parking
Loved this cute house! Within walking distance to the main drag. We can’t wait to stay here again soon!
I loved staying here and would do so again. It's very quaint and well kept. Shower is small for anyone over 6' tall or really wide.
This little cottage is adorable. It's very little - just a bedroom, small kitchen, bathroom, and nice patio - but very nice and clean and comfy. You can walk up the street to Main Street and its a very short drive to everything in town. The bed is comfy! For a couple looking for a place to sleep, its perfect!
The complimentary coffee cake was delicious and almost did last until breakfast. Super nice treat! They provided coffee, juice, milk, and popcorn too, which I thought was a nice gesture!
We only stayed one night so the very small shower was fine, but I could see wanting something bigger for an extended stay. The bathroom itself was remodeled and great with nice complimentary toiletries. The street noise that some reviewers mentioned did not bother us all, but I suppose it was pretty loud.
Great cozy little spot. Amazing cinnamon rolls waiting for us in the kitchen. Nice amenities and complementary food stuffs. Nice front porch! Careful on getting up the driveway!
Very nice, romantic stay for a short vacation.
If you want to be able to shower and sleep, the Oak House is not the place to stay. It is an adorable little cottage, and the coffee cake is amazing, but that is the best it gets. The shower is too small to fit into (literally 24 in by 24 in) and the road noise will keep you up ALL night.
We are sorry to see this guest was dissatisfied and wish they had reached out as we might have been able to find a unit better suited to their needs. This home is not ideal for light sleepers as traffic can be heard from time to time. The plus side to this is our guests are very close to Main St. The shower is a smaller walk-in one, but it is very nicely tiled and well-maintained. Thanks!
The Oak House was a perfect weekend getaway for us. The house was very cute and cozy. It was well stocked, very clean, and comfortable. The staff were extremely helpful, accommodating, and nice during the check-in process as well. I will definitely be staying here in the future!!
A great place for couples or a friend weekend. Close to main street with tasting rooms, restaurants, and shopping.
Cute as a button, a fantastic stay, we loved it.
The adorable nature of this cottage cannot be overstated. It is a perfect size for two people!
My only complaint, and the reason I would not rent this particular unit again, was the noise from the street. Texas trucks are loud in general, but when your only sleeping hours are from 12-3:30am that volume get amplified.
If you are looking for a. quiet, peaceful retreat, I would recommend one further off a main road.
My fiancé and I really enjoyed staying at this little cottage just a little ways down from Main st. We were able to walk anywhere on Main St. from this location. Would definitely stay here again.
So quaint and lovely. Most definitely will be staying again. Perfect!
Our trip was enjoyable starting at check-in. The staff was courteous and helpful. Fortunately we were able to check-in a little earlier than expected which was perfect. Main street was a short walk away from the house. The house was cute and cozy. Perfect for two. The coffee cake and small continental breakfast was a plus. It is facing a busy street so you will hear the traffic but it quiets down at night and that was not a problem for us. There is no sidewalk if you want to walk to main street but just be a little more cautious since the cars do come in kinda fast. Again that wasn't a issue for us since we didn't have kids with us. It was a perfect little house that was close enough to everything so you can explore Fredericksburg on foot. We truly enjoyed our experience.
This cottage was adorable. It was the perfect location, convenient to main street, but off the beaten path a bit. The continental breakfast and stocked fridge and cabinets provided everything we could want. All the conveniences of a hotel room, but way better!
Cottage is very well maintained, but it is located on a busy road, so you hear all of the traffic all night and at 6 a.m.
Perfect spot for a romantic weekend getaway!
We will definitely return. This was a most perfect house for 2 people. We love the location and overall feeling of the house!
The cottage was so cute, perfect for a couple's getaway. Bed was fabulous, the coffee cake was delicious, and we loved being able to walk to everything on Main Street. There was an issue with the website giving me the discount that was advertised for a last minute getaway. I emailed Vacasa with screenshots and all the info and after an initial response, they've ignored my last three attempts to correct this.
Enjoyed the Oak House Cottage. We will definitely be back! This will be a special place in our hearts from now on. After 41 years of not seeing each other, my now boyfriend and I reunited on FB. We've been dating for almost a month. He asked if I would be his girlfriend during our visit to this beautiful cottage Of course I said yes! Thanks for the device pastry, OJ, coffee, etc.
Perfect location, and perfect size for a romantic get a way! The cinnamon strudel was delish and loved the feel of the place. Bravo!
The oak house is a charming cottage with just enough space for a cozy weekend. It's an easy walk to Main Street. The natural light was so nice as was the cross breeze on the front porch. We loved it.
Perfect for two, but the hole in the ceiling needs to be repaired, as well as the driveway rut. The house is on a busy street; people may want to bring a noisemaker. Otherwise, great place. The fresh pastry was much appreciated and enjoyed. Nice touch!!! Vacasa is the way to go. We'll never stay at a hotel again.
My stay was excellent. Bathroom too small and need blind over kitchen window but overall excellent.
My wife and I stayed at this beautiful home that was absolutely perfect for our needs in terms of convenience of location, small space requirement, etc. Upon arrival (and after their cleaning), they had a streussel cake gifted to us on the breakfast table that was delicious! So the consideration of the management, cleanliness, and quality of the house was outstanding. Convenience was also incredible and we walked to a number of places on West Main Street. We very much enjoyed those aspects of our stay.
The only two things we'd recommend considering are that 1) it is 2 blocks off of Main street, on another bigger street that comes into town so it can be pretty noisy early in the morning or at odd hours (from commuters). My wife is a light sleeper so she had a tough time sleeping the first night and 2) the shower is pretty small - to the point where it was pretty difficult to properly shower, BUT there is a removable nozzle to help with all that.
Other than that, loved the property as it was and the management team was incredibly considerate!
Very peaceful property, well maintained and homey.
I had such a nice time at Oak House! The house is so sweet and the owners provided some nice little touches to make me feel comfortable. What everyone says about the shower is true - it's very small! But I am an average height woman and it was fine. The rest of the house is very comfortable! I especially loved sitting on the porch!
Overall, very good place. Nice location. Quaint house.
I could not give a 5 star rating simply because of the same issues previous reviewers noted.
1. Street Noise, quiets down in evening, but loud in the morning.
2. Shower is so small I felt like Alice in Wonderland :)
3. Needs window covering in the kitchen window, we used a trash bag.
4. There is no plug in the bathroom, a dressing table/small desk in the space would be helpful.
There are positives.
1. Perfect location at the beginning of shopping if you like to walk.
2. Danish and coffee provided.
3. Clean and Comfortable.
4. Parking is no problem
5. Refrigerator, microwave, dishes provided.
6. Blow dryer, vanity mirror and long mirror in bathroom, plenty of natural light, and lots of robe/towel hooks.
7. Sufficient closet space
I really enjoyed staying here. Its probably around 500 sq ft, but for 2 people for the weekend it was perfect. The King size bed was great, everything was very "homey" and clean. I loved the items in the fridge and the apple pastry was delicious. Only 2 blocks from main street- great location and a great place to have your car parked! My only suggestion would be for the back door- it doesn't fully close all the way and the lock isn't great. Also I would suggest adding some kind if blinds for that door since its open and you can see straight into the house. I know some complained about the noise, we heard 2 loud trucks our entire stay. We loved the board games and decks of cards and overall the Oak House made for a great weekend trip!
This was such a cute, romantic getaway within walking distance of Main Street. Would definitely stay here again
We loved our weekend at the Oak House. It was the perfect size and had everything we could need. The bed was very comfortable and the AC worked well. We really appreciated all the breakfast foods too - there were plenty! We enjoyed sitting out on the porch and watching the sunset before dinner. Our time spent here was exactly what we had hoped for and we plan to come back soon!
Really enjoyed the pastry and stocked fridge upon arrival. Nice touch, cozy place.
Really enjoyed our stay at the cottage it was, cozy cute and the tree and the yard we, really enjoyed thank you for everything!!
The small cottage is adorable, but in my opinion slightly overpriced. The mornings, sitting out on the front porch, are relaxing. The other reviews are accurate with regards to the tiny shower and noise. You can hear everything. Curtains in the kitchen and better lock for front door would've made me feel a little safer. Aside from these details, the property was in great location and good condition.
Though tiny, we found the Oak House to be a cute fun house to stay for our two night stay. It's somewhat noisy from street noise, but, with Fredericksburg's restaurants and fun shops we actually weren't in the house but for sleeping. Walking to the main part of town is a five minute walk. We would go back in a heartbeat
My husband and I booked this house for a weekend getaway. I thought it was closer to Main St. There were some spots we could walk to but the main stores were a little further. The house itself was nice and comfortable. The only thing we did not like was how extremely small the shower was. It was very uncomfortable and sometimes unmanageable to use. The staff was friendly though and we did enjoy being there.
Everything about this property was fun and functional for our weekend stay in Fredericksburg. Some guests complained about the traffic next to the house, but the noise did not bother us. We loved the breakfast treats and the clean and cozy environment. The shower is very small, as other reviewers commented. But the shower was not a deal-breaker for us, we will definitely book this property again!
the Oak House is a nice little place to stay.. very quite
We loved staying in this adorable little cottage for our girls weekend getaway! It was close enough to main street that we could walk there if we wanted! The house was so clean and had everything we needed to our quick stay, and it is kept up very well. We had read in some other guest reviews about it being pretty loud at night because of the house facing a pretty busy road off of main street. It did get loud during the night, so if you are a light sleeper it might not be for you! Once we fell asleep it was no problem for us, so it wasn't a deal breaker in our case. The house manager left a delicious breakfast pastry, and we devoured it! That was such a sweet gesture, thank you! The kitchen also had coffee, milk, OJ, creamer - we were set for our mornings! Thanks again for helping us to have a great stay.
Lovely one bedroom cottage in great location. The only problem that if someone is over 6' 1" tall the shower could be an issue. Literally the smallest shower I've ever used. And the bathroom does not have much room for getting dressed etc. We were there for a wedding and there are not enough mirrors for two people getting ready at the same time. The place however is very cute and clean.
We spent our 14th wedding anniversary here. It was perfect!
Everything about the house (location, charm, fresh coffee cake :) was generally great. The only (2) complaints I have about the property are:
Street Noise: Milam is a very busy street and there are a lot of cars whizzing by. It settles down at night - but for a majority of the day (including the morning) - there is a lot of street noise. Plus it is next to a school/church so on Sunday - there was a large activity of cars.
Shower - This has to be on par with showering in an Airstream/Winnebago. It is so incredibly small - I could not raise my arms up to wash my head! The shower head was literally 4 inches from my face - Im a 6' person of average build. To me - this was the worst feature of the entire home.
Outside of those 2 things - the place was great!
We had a wonderful time. The cottage was quaint and cozy and fit our needs perfectly.
We were very happy with our stay at The Oak House. The grounds are beautiful with a peaceful environment. The small house was perfect for our weekend getaway, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay! I'd recommend it to anyone who would like a clean and tranquil place to rest overnight.
If you want to relax and sleep in, pick another property. If you are 6' tall or over, forget about taking a shower, you won't fit.
We had an absolutely wonderful and peaceful weekend at the little yellow house! It was very clean and cozy. The bed was very comfortable and we enjoyed cooking out on the grill! We will definitely be back to visit this quaint little home.
The little Oak house was a delight to stay in and we would recommend it to anyone looking to get a way. Keep in mind that its on a busy street so if you like sleeping in and your a light sleeper that might be something to bear in mind. That didn't bother my wife so we thoroughly enjoyed the house and its placement was perfect. Enjoy!
We enjoyed our stay at the Oak House. It is a very quaint house nicely appointed - just enough room for a couple. It is located just a bit of a walk into town, but not bad at all for those who don't mind a little exercise.
Get a name and number of the local office in case you have an issue. The number provided for Vacasa is useless as no one will ever answer. Other than that we had no issues.
We apologize that we were difficult to reach during this stay. We are hiring more staff for the phones so that it is easier to get in touch with us regarding questions or concerns.
This place is a perfect little home for the weekend or longer. It is a charming cabin on a fantastic lot so close to everything.
Great place and great location. We just stayed at the Oak House for the second time and we were not disappointed. It is perfect for two people to have a great stay over a long weekend. The staff is very professional, helpful and the place is spotless. I highly recommend the Oak House.
