What's nearby:
This cottage has its own view of peaceful Beale Pond, on a quiet cul-de-sac featuring a spectacular view of Townsend Gut, the ocean passage for small and large ocean vessels between Southport Island and the mainland. It is also within walking distance of Robinson's Wharf eatery, where lobster boats bring their catch, and the Southport Swing Bridge, a local favorite for ocean fishing and boat-watching. The cottage is a short drive from delightful Cozy Harbor, an iconic Maine village with delicious dining, a public dock along the rocky coast for watching sailing and lobster boats come and go, stirring sunsets, and unforgettable coastal scenery.
The home is also within a 10-minute drive to Hendricks Head Beach, an ocean beach with dramatic 9-foot tides, a small island for rock climbing and jumping off of, ocean kayaking, and the easy Hendricks Head Hiking Trail. (Large sandy beaches with crashing waves, such as Reid State Park, Popham Beach, and Pemaquid, are within an hour's drive of the cottage.). Charming Boothbay Harbor (three miles away), the largest boat harbor north of Boston, abounds with fresh seafood, quaint cafes and shops, and endless recreation opportunities on the fresh, Mid-coast ocean waters, including whale-watching, lighthouse, clambake and puffin cruises, and what has been described as the “best sea kayaking in Maine.” Nearby Southport Memorial Library, the Boothbay Historical Society and Hendrick's Hill Museum will pique the interest of history buffs and readers, and the Boothbay Railway Village with its genuine narrow-gauge railroad and the antique auto exhibit is a fun and informative trip into local history.
