Recent Big Bear Lake vacation rental reviews

The home was as advertised with a good location close to the ski resorts, resort parking shuttle, the Zoo, and a donut shop with good donuts. Property was clean, water was hot, central heat was super powerful for downstairs but the upstairs gets a little cool with no directly forced air. Good provisions for soap, shampoo, dish soap. Vacasa listing says 3 cars but house sign says 2 cars - we only had 2 cars but what happens if you have 3? We struggled a little having only one bathroom to share amongst my family, particularly when we have 3 teens, but that's on me for not noticing in the listing! The BBQ outside was a bit beat up/leaning with the lid not sealing to the body and barely got hot enough to warm up hot dogs, so you might want a backup plan if you are planning on grilling in case it's still that way for you. No dishwasher, hand-washing wasn't a big deal for us. Overall, Sunshine Cabin worked out wonderfully and we completely recommend the property, provided you don't have challenges with bathroom hogs in your family like we do in ours! As some have said, there are a decent number of vehicles that travel up and down the street in front of this property including a lot of noisy pick-ups that sound loud because the quiet is quieter than in the city. When we travel, I always bring a portable speaker and run a white noise app at night, so this was not a problem for us. If you are a light sleeper and are expecting to sleep in with absolute silence, this isn't the place for you.

What a lovely place to stay! Our boys loved the bunk bed set up in cabin, and we had plenty of space to hang out after a long day of skiing. So close to the ski resorts as well as the shuttles if you do not have a car, or just cannot find parking. Highly recommend.

Fox Den is a great place to stay. It is less than a 5 minute walk to the slopes at Snow Summit. The cabin is very comfy and warm, and I was pleasantly surprised to know that we could get right into the hot tub when we got there without having to wait for it to warm up. We'll be back.

Where are our Big Bear Lake cabins?

In the heart of the San Bernardino National Forest and on the shores of Big Bear Lake, you'll find the beautiful Big Bear. This area—popular among both tourists and locals—includes both the city of Big Bear Lake and the slightly smaller town of Big Bear City.

Here you'll enjoy a quiet escape surrounded by California's natural beauty, while still being a day trip from larger cities, should you choose. The city is less than 100 miles from the bustling metropolis of Los Angeles and approximately 145 miles north of vibrant San Diego. Big Bear Lake has been a popular destination since the early 1920s, and the area still promises an unforgettable experience for guests of all ages.

Things to do near our Big Bear rentals

During the warmer months, you'll find most of the area's visitors and locals enjoying the water and trying to catch trout for dinner. When you stay in one of our Big Bear rentals with an outdoor grill, you can enjoy cooking up your own fresh-caught fish for dinner. As Southern California's largest recreation lake, Big Bear Lake is a fisherman's paradise in the summer and is also beloved for its boating, canoeing, and kayaking.

The hiking trails near Big Bear are abundant and provide unforgettable mountain views. From kid-friendly excursions like Castle Rock Trail to the more challenging Cougar Crest Trail, there are outdoor adventures for every skill level. Best of all, many of these trails are pet-friendly—just like our Big Bear rentals—so your pup can join in on all the fun.

When the snow falls, our ski chalets are the place to be. With rentals at two winter resorts—Bear Mountain and Snow Summit—you'll have plenty of downhill skiing and snowboarding at your fingertips. For those less inclined towards downhill, the area's hiking and biking trails also transition to cross-country and snowshoeing terrain. After spending an afternoon in fresh powder, you can head back to your Big Bear Lake cabin rental and warm up with a mug of hot chocolate in front of the fire, or by soaking your tired muscles in your hot tub.

Despite its small size, the town of Big Bear Lake has everything you might need during a getaway to the mountains: restaurants, shops, festivals and events, and a farmers market. Almost all of our Big Bear vacation rentals include fully-equipped kitchens, so you can pick up a bounty of local produce and prepare meals right in the comfort of your own home away from home.

Big Bear proves there's so much more to Southern California than beautiful beaches and boardwalks. Discover the magic for yourself with a stay in one of our luxury lodges, laid-back cottages, or cozy Big Bear Lake cabins.
