Recent Newry guest reviews

My family loved the location and the views from the home. The gas fireplace and rec room provided us so much entertainment and ambiance. The overall home is very large and roomy. It also had the only paved driveway on the road. Close to needed amenities. Most of all, we all felt at home and were very sad to leave. We all wished it could have lasted much longer! Would stay here again without hesitation.

Review Beautiful, comfortable spacious house in nature at the end of long uphill unpaved driveway. We stayed in August as a family of seven (and two dogs) and appreciated the space. The most comfortable (and firm) bed is in the masters bedroom on the ground floor. House is not accessible to wheelchairs at all. Impeccable sheets and numerous bath and hot tub towels were provided, as well as paper towels, cleaning products and sponges for the kitchen, dishwasher and washing machine. Shampoo, conditioner and shower gel as well as toilet paper were also provided, but not a single tissue: we had to buy a box ourselves. Now, everything in the other reviews about the living and dining room being so hot in summer is true, as there is no central AC (only single room units in each bedroom), then the living room ceiling fan apparently still does not work, and there are no curtains or blinds there. In the afternoon, we had to block dining room windows with boards of isolating material found in a basement closet, and living room bay windows with quilts, while running two standing fans outside upstairs bedroom doors trying to blow the air into the hallway above the living room. Then we had an issue with the electric « smart » lock, which died (batteries did) on the second day, locking everyone out except one person who was luckily napping inside and let the rest in. We spent hours on the phone with various Vacasa staff who did their best, but were long to persuade that the lock had actually died rather than us failing to use it properly. One solution they offered was a lock box with a key, which unfortunately did not work either in any of the locks, and was not due to us failing to use it properly, as was confirmed by the staff who showed up hours later and was very helpful. This just shows how long and difficult communication is with companies who own these houses, rather than real people as owners, when something unfortunately and unexpectedly goes wrong. After this, the landscaping person accidentally broke a bay door on the lower level when a rock flew into it as he was using the weedwacker, which made the door unusable and unsafe for the rest of the duration of our stay. Finally, the hot tub was serviced the day before we left instead of after: it was set to an unchangeable 104 degrees and full of foaming chemicals, so we could not use it one last time before leaving. To sum it up, the house is amazing and has great potential, but because of the overdue ceiling fan situation and all the unfortunate issues that happened and could not be handled promptly due to having to communicate with multiple company staff instead of one owner, we cannot give five stars.

Where is Newry, ME?

Beautifully situated at the meeting of the Androscoggin, Bear, and Sunday Rivers, the small town of Newry is tucked away among the slopes and ridges of Western Maine. The town, which is home to the beloved Sunday River Ski Resort, sits seven miles north of Bethel's natural splendor, 28 miles east of the rugged peaks in White Mountain National Forest, and 71 miles north of historic downtown Portland.

Things to do in Newry, ME

Should you plan your visit to one of our Newry vacation homes in the peak of autumn, there are few more colorful times to admire the Sunday River Bridge. Known more commonly as Artist's Bridge, this covered span on the Sunday River was constructed in 1872 and was a perennial favorite of the American impressionist painter John Enneking.

Come winter, skiers and snowboarders flock to the slopes of Sunday River, where you'll find eight interconnected peaks, 135 trails and glades, six terrain parks, and an 18-foot superpipe across 870 acres. The resort even offers a "Snow Guarantee" and backs it up with state-of-the-art technology to source manmade snow from the Sunday River.

Newry is equally alluring in the sparkling summer months, whether you choose to kayak the Androscoggin River, ride 20 miles of trails at the Sunday River Bike Park, or practice your drive at the Sunday River Country Club. The snowy slopes of winter make way for summer zip lines, scenic lift rides, and the L.L. Bean Outdoor Discovery School.

Let yourself in on one of the last remaining secrets in Maine - you'll never forget the time you spend at our Newry vacation rentals!
