Very stunning area in Shagbark. The main living area was perfect for our 10 guests. This cabin has multiple maintenance issues. Multiple light bulbs out with no replacements in sight along with missing porch swing on lower patio. The 2 smoke detectors on lower level were removed and laying on table. One of the cable boxes had broken access card and fireplace was turned off outside amid 27 degrees first night. Reached out to maintenance and they were suppose to get back to us after speaking to cable company. We never heard back. The locked garbage area only had room for 2 large bags of garbage and no pickup during stay. Not enough towels and wash cloths, only 4 per bathroom. Only one dish cloth and one scrubby sponge in kitchen. No dishwashing detergent in sight. No sound barriers, could hear every tv and private conversations from every level. The water and ice filter needs to be changed and ice chute is frozen up. The water faucet had better tasting water.Tried to grill and grill had hole in bottom. For such a beautiful cabin certainly needs maintenance.

Unfortunately, it looks like we had to set up an appointment with the cable company to replace the box and the system was fixed on the 6th. Vacasa provides a starter pack of laundry soap, dishwasher soap, paper towels, garbage bags, etc. Anything that is needed after what is provided is up to you to provide for yourself. If you do not have these supplies upon your arrival, our staff is more than willing to replenish those items for you. There are enough towels in the home for the maximum occupancy and there is a washer and dryer in the home for your use. We are happy to assist our guests during their stay as long as we are contacted for help. We will make sure our local staff is aware of the items that need to be addressed. We are glad you enjoyed our home and we look forward to hosting you again in the future!

This cabin is exactly what we were looking for when it came to our first visit to the area. Nestled at the top of a mountain with expansive views of the Smokys and wildlife nearby. There were 6 people and 3 dogs in our party and there was plenty of room for all of us. Definitely recommend this cabin and Vacasa for anyone considering this location

We have rented several cabins in the past but this was our first rental through vacasa. We looked for a long time for a cabin that checked all the boxes and were excited that this one fit the bill. Upon arrival we quickly realized that the pictures in the listing are very well staged and must have been taken When the cabin was newer. The cabin overall has a nice layout, a great view, large deck, and fun games. The community (pool, disc golf and playground) was the standout by far.
The cabin, which was likely very nice at one point, has succumb to years of neglect of basic maintenance and multiple renters. The second day of our trip the AC went out. Vacasa did send someone the next morning and the AC was functional again. However, that same night the sink in the downstairs bedroom started leaking when turned on and flooded the floor. We made due and washed hands and brushed teeth in the bathtub as to not use the sink downstairs. The last day of our trip we contacted vacasa again and they sent a plumber that evening. Sadly the last night of our vacation was spent in the cabin with the plumber doing some pretty major repairs (which resulted in sewage water getting on the floors and filling the cabin with a fowl odor). Additionally the grass is so overgrown outside that the mosquitos were awful. We also saw bears (which was pretty neat) but due to the hot tub being on the lower level where the grass was over grown, we couldn’t use it. Other things that were disappointing and show the lack of maintenance: multiple light bulbs were burnt out; multiple remotes had dead batteries for the TVs; the smoke detector was ripped off the wall; two outlets had no covers (safety concern with small children); two cabinet doors were missing (one in kitchen one downstairs); fan over pool table was coming detached from ceiling; lock on upstairs bathroom door was broken; light outside was busted; vines growing up side of cabin; weather stripping is coming off under door and windows; wood was rotting on beam on upper deck; swings that were pictured on patio are missing and the pillows had stains, all but one pan was unusable due to the Teflon being scratched and chipping; and there were some large cobwebs In the upstairs bedroom and loft as well. Other things that were more personal preference were the showers were small and dark and the bed linens were not comfortable, the Wi-Fi was inconsistent and often kicked you off of multiple people were logged on.
We enjoyed our trip but the cabin was disappointing. This was our first vacasa rental and they were quick to send maintenance out when requested and the issues were addressed, it’s just not something you want to deal with on vacation. It also makes us wonder if other homes that vacasa rents Are as poorly maintained, and therefore I would like to rent from vacasa again due to the customer service being great, but am hesitant because of the condition of the cabin that they manage. We contacted vacasa and let them know that we were unable to leave a 5 star review due to the above. They thanked us for letting them know. Last note: call the shagbark security gate prior to your arrival: we did and saved ourselves from not being able to get in the gate as they had no record of our reservation on file.

We loved our time at the Black Bear Lodge. The house is great for a family with pets. The dogs had a reasonable sized yard to use. The porch and the view was amazing. Our family enjoyed playing cards at poker table and my son enjoyed the game room. The bedrooms we a nice size and lots of closet space in the bedrooms.

Great views loved the layout of the cabin plenty of space for our 3 families with kids. About 25 to Pigeon Forge 45 to Gatlinburg. Some of the people in our reservation had issues getting in through the gate which was frustrating. The cabin is pretty high up so the ride up was a little scary. Lots of bear sightings at the cabin so we were unable to enjoy the hot tub due to it being on the lower level and this is where the bears were...would have been nice if it was on the main level deck. No extra garbage bags or hand soap. Overall it was a nice cabin and we enjoyed it.
