The Sonoran Desert surrounds Mesa, with the Superstition Mountains on the town’s eastern horizon. Classic vignettes of cactus and agave can be found around every corner, and if you’re visiting in the summer, pack for hot weather. Bustling downtown Phoenix is about 20 miles away from Mesa, on the other side of the towns of Tempe, Scottsdale, Chandler, and Gilbert.
