Dog-friendly cottage w/ shared hot tub and cozy gas fireplace
This warm and cozy South Lake Tahoe cabin is the perfect retreat for a family getaway! The largest cabin in the wonderfully rustic Spruce Grove community, this spacious two-bedroom retreat has everything you need to feel right at home during.
This cabin shares its fenced yard, its hot tub, and the rest of the property with six other cabins: the Prospector, Snowshoe, Washoe, Steamer Tahoe, Field and Stream, and Pioneer. A group of up to 34 people can rent them all together as the Spruce Grove Cabin Retreat.
With a panoramic window looking out toward the trees, wood-paneled walls, and a gas fireplace set into a wall of river rock, the warm and welcoming living area invites you to snuggle up by the fire with a good book. There's also a flatscreen cable TV with a DVD player for movie nights, or stay unplugged and spread out a board game on the coffee table.
While Spruce Grove has a shared courtyard and plenty of grills for group picnicking, you'll also enjoy your own private patio here at the Bear's Den, complete with a gas grill and picnic table for your own summer barbecues. Or, take a seat on the spacious wooden swing outside and soak up the fresh air and sunshine with your morning coffee.
The kitchen offers plenty of space to move around and prepare a family meal, along with all the essentials: an electric stovetop with an oven, a microwave, a coffee maker, a toaster, and plenty of pots, pans, and dishes. There are two four-person tables for dining - one in the kitchen and one in the open living area, so everyone will find a comfortable seat for dinner! After you eat, let the dishes soak in the sink for a while as you set up the Monopoly board or pick out the evening's movie.
This South Lake Tahoe vacation rental has two cozy bedrooms, each with a queen bed dressed in warm linens and bedside lamps so you can catch up on your latest paperback well into the night.
As part of the Spruce Grove community, you and your family can enjoy beautiful landscaping and plenty of outdoor living space. There's even a shared hot tub for late night soaks under the stars. And Spruce Grove is famous for its dog-friendly atmosphere: the entire community is well-fenced so that your dogs will be safe and comfortable throughout your stay. They can make friends with the neighbors, and there are clean-up stations available to ensure everything stays tidy and welcoming for all our guests (an additional fee applies).
Of course, there's plenty to do on the other side of the fence! The blue waters of Lake Tahoe await less than one mile north, and just over a mile to the south lies the ski slopes at Heavenly. Plenty of dining and shopping are within easy walking distance, less than a quarter-mile away along Ski Run Boulevard. From excellent Italian food at Cafe Fiore to laid-back burritos at La Familia, you'll find a meal to suit everyone's taste during your stay at this friendly South Lake Tahoe vacation rental.
For action-packed adventures on the water, a ski weekend, or just a laid-back South Lake Tahoe family getaway, the Bear's Den at Spruce Grove awaits!

This has been my home away from home for over 10 years. We try to visit at least once a year and I cry when I close the door on my cabin. The cabins are rustic and comfortable. They have the charm that I hope the cabin of my own would have. The fenced in area for the dogs and the proximity to town and also to trails is what brings us back over and over. We rent the whole place for our friends and dogs and we will start planning next year to do it all over again.
It was conveniently located in a quiet neighborhood and had rustic charm of an older cabin and had everything you would need for the kitchen and bath. The hot tub was nice for the cool evenings and when we needed more blankets I called and they dropped off that day.
It was nice for family! Fun with outside Jacuzzi and BBQ.
Arriving at 4pm check in time, the cabin seemed at bit dark and foreboding, but over our 2 night stay we found it to be comfortable and homey. Heaters and fireplace warmed cabin adequately. We enjoyed cooking a couple dinners in the well supplied kitchen and watching DVDs in the living room in the evening.. Just one item missing ~dish drain tray. Overall enjoyable stay for us and our 3 adult children.
Our cabin was so charming. Fully equipped kitchen and had extra blankets, pillows, and towels. Our family rented 4 of the 6 cabins on the property and it was perfect. The kids were able to walk right outside to play without worries of cars passing. Such a great weekend and location. Would definitely recommend.
My family of five enjoyed our stay here. We were warm and comfortable and the hot tub was a plus. Thank you Amy
I enjoyed our stay! Clean cozy place and very close to all of the attractions!
it was nice and cozy beautiful viw close to everything
We have been coming to Spruce Grove for many years. This year the weather was perfect-cool, sunny and one day of snow, The grounds are enjoyable for eating lunch outside and relaxing in the hot tub and bbqing. You are close to the stores, casinos and restaurants, but you feel like you are in the forest. We rent the entire place and each cabin cooks dinner one night. This is the most dog friendly, awesome vacation you can take with your friends and your pups. It is fenced, safe and peaceful. The cabins don't feel like rentals, they feel like home. We cry when we have to leave and start the countdown for next year immediately. We hike most days and enjoy the cabins in the evening. WE LOVE SPRUCE GROVE!
Great location. Clean. Beautiful
This is our third time renting a Spruce Grove Cabin, the second renting the Bear's Den. Supplies are sufficient if you have four people staying here, but if you have up to six be prepared as you may not have enough towels (that seemed okay this time, but last time there weren't enough) and toilet paper. The location is great as it's close to Heavenly, the casinos, a grocery store, and a dog park. We appreciate how dog-friendly it is and given that the dogs are an important part of our family, it's the main reason why we continue to come back.
Had a relaxing time. It was unfortunate the hot tub was not accessible during out stay due to water issues bit otherwise a great stay
We enjoyed our 2 bedroom cabin. It was very spacious and well equipped. The outside area was great! Two picnic tables and two gliders, a nice grassy area that was safe for pets and small children.
We enjoyed our stay here. The bears den was cozy and spacious! While we felt the cleaning job could have been more thorough and the wifi was sketchy, we would stay here again. It was quiet and close to everything in South Shore, and was a perfect set up for our dog. She was able to run around outside, the waste bin was handy and everyone else's dogs were well behaved. With a little more attention to some details this would be the perfect place!
This house is perfect for large family and a plus if you have pets traveling with you. Perfect location since it's just off of Ski Run Drive, a straight shot to the marina. The location is pretty much close to everything and it's quiet, has its own compound.
CONS: Cabin is dirty particularly the kitchen so watch our. Do not use anything until you washed them yourself. Kitchen cupboards are dirty also. Just do a white glove test and you'll certainly be disappointed. Check the linens in both bedrooms and sofa bed. We had an issue finding human hair on sheets especially "pubic" hair! My recommendation if you chose this place, make sure to check everything before settling in. Local staff are not available after 8pm. Thank God I brought my own bedsheets!!!
This was a great little place to stay. It felt very homey and was a great place to spend time with my family. The yard area was very nicely kept and a it was a great place for the kids to run around and play. The beds were very comfortable and had everything we needed. 100 times better than staying in a hotel. We had family visiting from Texas and they were so impressed at the experience. It was also a great location. Very close to the lake and the casinos. I would highly recommend it and will be coming back in the future!
Everything and everyone associated with the Spruce Cabins is awesome....
Another excellent vacation!
I hate to say that, but that was by far my worst experience with rental properties.
Don't get me wrong - this place is in great location and has a lot of potential. But there is a lot of little - and not so little - things that completely ruined the experience and made me hate the time there.
Most obvious thing - when we checked in, all the floors were dirty. Real dirty. Lots and lots of dust. And puddle on the kitchen floor. And food scraps on the tables. And some dirty and smelly stuff in the garbage bin - under the plastic bag. We've spent first two hours cleaning everything up. Yikes. Folks, fire your cleaners ASAP.
Heck, we were not even sure that bedding was changed after the previous guests - we had reasons to believe that it wasn't, at least on one bed. Yikes.
Kitchen and bathrooms have ancient cabinets, old and chipped and dirty paint, and ancient and broken plumbing. Hey, if kitchen and bathrooms are in so dilapidated state, it doesn't matter how much effort and money went into other rooms - and to be honest living room and bedrooms got a lot of attention. The whole property will still leave an impression of old and poorly maintained.
No dishwasher and no central heating. Really? What year is that???
The smell... The property is supposedly non-smoking, but there is persistent cigarette smoke smell. Owners probably should get rid of old couches and beds.
And there is a lot of little things... One would turn a blind eye to those if not the problems I have already noted above. But if big things are wrong, one starts noticing the small ones as well:
- Fireplace, which is main heat source, needed manual fidgeting to work.
- No heating in the bathroom.
- Clogged shower drain.
- Leaking kitchen sink, despite maintenance attempts to fix it.
- Unusable Wi-Fi - way too unstable.
- Broken hair dryer.
- Many things that one would expect to be in evert kitchen are missing - e.g. cutting boards, strainer, etc.
We are very disappointed to see this guest did not enjoy their stay. Had we been notified of the shoddy cleaning job we would have sent housekeeping out as soon as possible to rectify the issue. We will retrain our team on how to properly clean and inspect our homes. Our listing does note there is no dishwasher or central heating. Space heaters are provided for guest use to assist with heating, especially in the bathroom. The shower drain and leaking sink have been fixed by maintenance. During spring inspections and cleaning the Property Manager will check inventory to be sure everything is in the home that should be (such as the hair dryer). There is WiFi in the unit, though it can be slow.
It's a fun place to rent for families with kids!
Good location and spacey cabin not five stars but is better than a hotel Room!!!
We stayed for 10 nights in the bear Den cottage and we had an amazing time. We came all the way from Australia to snowboard in the Lake Tahoe region!! The cottage was perfect. It was well stocked, warm and cosy. It had everything we needed. The shower pressure wasn't amazing and the place needed a good vacuum as it had dog hair everywhere. Other than that I can not complain at all. It snowed 2feet whilst we were there and management was very quick to clean out the drive way so we could move our car! I would definitely stay here again and recommend others to stay!
The cabin was a little old, and it was cold even with heaters on. Otherwise, I was happy.
Great fenced location for kids to play out front in the snow the large window made it easy to watch them. Close to all shopping and resturants and most importantly the ski runs and resorts
Nice place to stay and close to heavenly
We have been coming to Spruce Grove for many years. It is our home away from home and our happy place for friends and dogs. We look forward to many more vacations to Lake Tahoe and staying at our favorite place. It is convenient for shopping, restaurants, hiking, skiiing, boating, etc. Bring some of your own kitchen items such as knives, big pots, etc. The cabins are cozy and comfortable and feel like home, not a hotel. We had some bear visitors-so watch before letting your dogs out. We book the whole property so it is even more fun to hang out in the yard, hot tub and bbq and eat together.
We went with a group of 4 to Tahoe. It was very beautiful and we enjoyed every minute of being out in the lake. Hope to come back soon!
Spent 4 nights with our son, daughter-in-law and their two Boston Terriers in Sept 2016. Overall we loved the location of this cabin. It is close to restaurants, shopping, and the beach; yet it quiet and has the feel of being in the mountains surrounded by tall pine trees. We felt the cabin was quite dated and in need of better lighting. Overall we enjoyed our stay here.
We had a great time, food on the grill right outside! Great place to stay for any occasion, feels like home!
the grounds where very nice and confined, the children and dog was very safe throughout the day it was almost like a small park you just need to watch out for bears at night they like to try to come in for food.
Love the location, beautiful area, close to everything. Nice bbq area, very clean.
We loved the spacious grounds, the location and the privacy of this cabin. Our dog loved the grounds, but actually did not like the cabin--I believe because of the stained carpet containing the smells of other dogs. The cabin was comfy but is in serious need of a bunch of small maintenance items, that, when added together, made our stay less enjoyable than it could have been. Putting a little bit of money toward replacing light bulbs, the dirty/old kitchen linoleum and carpeting, and ensuring all dishes were clean (i.e. showing that the property is cared for) would go a long, long way in customer satisfaction.
We appreciate this feedback and will keep it in mind for future improvements.
Our dogs had a great time. Having the cabins fenced in was a great idea.
We relaxed and our dogs had fun too!
Excellent cabin and property for families and dogs. It would be fun to rent out all seven units for a family getaway. The fully enclosed courtyard offers communal space and a safe place for the kids and dogs.
Our stay was great what I really liked was the jacuzzi outside with a fence surrounding it for our privacy. I also really liked that the cabin came with a lot of pots and pans and the layout. Would definitely recommend this cabin to family's or just a couple very spacious really pretty outside with a swing for kids and two bbq pits.
Lovely cottage in a convenient location. Perfect for 3 of us and 2 huskies. They love to be able to roam around in the property. Hot tub is a great addition right by the cottage. Check in and out was easy. We will definitely come back again!
This was a last minute change to where we had planned to stay, I booked the cabin the night before we were planning to leave for Tahoe. I am so glad I came across this place because it was way better than the other option we had on deck, and turned out to be a perfect place to accommodate all of the activities we wanted to do throughout the weekend. Walking distance to the lake and some great restaurants, hot tub right outside the front door, great fireplace heating system inside, and ideal location overall. Would definitely book this again for a future stay!
We went to Tahoe to celebrate my sister's birthday. The reviews and pictures if this place looked great. It wasn't as cozy as I expected it to be from the looks of the pictures. There were no linens for the pull out bed and the towels didn't feel very soft and clean. Fortunately, we brought our own towels. The don't provide very much soap and we were only there for 2 full days. My sister brought more dish soap and hand soap, so we had enough because we brought our own. There were 6 of us staying here and only 5 forks so one of us had to eat with a spoon. The location was great. Our 2 small dogs loved it. The area is enclosed so our dogs were able to run around freely. The property manager was very helpful. Although we all enjoyed our stay very much, we probably would not stay here again. For the price though, it was perfect.
Thank you for your review. We will work with housekeeping on properly stocking the home, and we'll make sure there is enough silverware for the maximum occupancy. We are glad to see that you enjoyed your stay and hope that we do get to see you again!
Thank you for the oportunidad and chance to find a good deal for the 2 day staying at the nice place at bear den was so clean we appreciate for every thing we are thanks full ..Omar Lopez
Great cabins right between the ski lift and the town.
Me and my friends enjoyed our Thanksgiving weekend over at the Spruce Grove Bear's Den Cabin. We really enjoyed the cabin with it's Bear theme, wooden feel and rustic look. Cabin was very easy to locate and was a mile away from the Heavenly Ski Resort and shopping. We explored the surrounding area by taking a walk from the cabin to the Lake Tahoe Blvd. Cabin is very clean and safe to stay in. Highly recommended for family with kids.
Really enjoyed our last minute gettaway and look forward to returning. Love that we good enjoy the trip with our dog.
Despite some problems with the furnishings the house was very cozy and the outside area very relaxing and kid friendly. I plan on renting again in the future and would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway (especially if you have kids).
Overall great. Just needs a big flat screen and newer towels. Great time. Internet is fast no issues. Would come back definitely.
We enjoyed our stay at the Bear's Den Cabin! The cabin is cosy and has all the basic things you would need during your stay, it's not a brand new cabin but they have maintained it well. The grounds of Spruce Grove Cabins are very dog friendly and nice with trash cans to pick up after your dogs and ample room to walk them, etc. We loved the grounds! One thing that is important to note is the Bear's Den Cabin does not have a fenced off "backyard" so you don't really have a private fenced area in the back of the cabin. This wasn't too big of an issue for us since our dogs are pretty well bevhaved and friendly with people and other dogs.
Nice cabin in south Lake Tahoe, close to the main strip. Very happy with our stay!
This is the cutest cabin in a great central location. Easy to get to shops, beaches, grocery stores, restaurants, and activities. Great for a small family. Gated shared property was nice for kids to ride bikes without having to worry about cars. I also liked that his building wasn't attached like the others in the complex.
We had a great time in Tahoe. Cabin was conveniently close to lake, and shops. Cabin was clean and had everything we needed. Enjoyed the bbq area for our cabin and the fact that we had a Jacuzzi to use after a day at the lake. Would definitely go back!
I've been coming to Spruce Grove for over 10 yrs. I've stayed in almost all of the cabins. I refuse to go any where else because of the friendly staff, 5 min to the water where I can jet ski, and head back to cabin to BBQ, and soak in hot tub. My dogs LOVE it here!!! Its rustic and relaxing. Beats the cold commercial hotels
This cottage is nestled in a den of other cottages amid the trees with a hot tub for all to enjoy. Cozy and cute. The entire area is completely fenced in which adds an extra feeling of privacy and security. Kitchen is big and the bathtub is huge. A good place to get away and enjoy.
We really had a fantastic time. It is so peaceful having an enclosed compound for the dogs. We have been coming here for 10 years and our dog loves to interact with the other dogs. This year was different since Don no longer is on site. We certainly missed having him around, but we were aware ahead of time that he had retired.
We were able to interact with the new staff and everyone was so friendly and always asked if we needed anything. We stayed for 2 weeks and had plenty of towels and sheets. We really didn't need anything extra at all.
We have meet some very special people here and love to see them every year.
Very enjoyable experience.
Ron and Marti
It was a wonderful place to stay with my family. If we go back, I'll definitely go here again. Easy 3/4 of a mile walk to the Tahoe Queen launching point and Rivas Grille (best place I ate on vacation). Very secluded property and all the amenities you need.
PS) Do not have a "bear counting contest." It was agreed that this cabin had the most bears in the world in one place. They're on the wall, the lamps, the fireplace. Everywhere. I would guess that if you included all the bear decor in the place, you would have in excess of 200 bears. ...and even that is pretty awesome.
