Huge Cabin with Game Room, Front Porch, WiFi & Wood-Burning Fireplace

Welcome to Mountain Joy Cottages, close to all the gorgeous outdoor activities western North Carolina has to offer! Your cabin, the Owl Cottage, is the original homestead of Maggie, whom the Maggie Valley was named for. Inside you’ll find tons of space to spread out and lovely, folksy touches everywhere. Take a seat in one of the rocking chairs on your front porch for your morning coffee and, if you get up early enough, you may glimpse some of the elk that roam free in the Maggie Valley and which frequently visit the property. Back inside, you’ll pass through a large living room on your way to the kitchen, which which features plenty of counter space and seating for the whole gang around a huge dining room table.

Just off the kitchen is the game room, where foosball and darts await friendly family challenges. Beyond the game room are two quiet bedrooms. The larger of the two features a small seating area and a flatscreen TV; both feature queen beds and share a bathroom. On the other side of the house are two more bedrooms. In the main one you’ll find a king bed, flatscreen TV, and en suite bathroom, complete with jetted tub. The second bedroom on this side of the house features a queen bed, flatscreen and its own en suite bathroom as well. The kids will love the sleeping area upstairs, which features fun beanbag chairs and two extra-large twin beds.

Outside, you’ll find 12 cabins, spread out on four acres. Cabins all enjoy access to shared amenities such as a fire pit, horse shoes, basketball, picnic tables, in-ground swimming pool (open seasonally) and corn hole. There’s also a spring-fed pond, home to some ducks who are always looking for a handout.

After a day out, it’s time to revisit that large living room. Stoke the wood-burning fireplace and settle in on that giant sectional for some family time. There’s a fireplace-mounted flatscreen if you feel like some TV time, but after a day of hiking, skiing, rafting, swimming, or just exploring, you’ll probably have too much to talk about to turn on the TV.

This house is so nice and large, plenty of space for everyone to spread out. Loved the overview of the front porch looking over the center lawn that contained a fire pit, play area and pool. The kids really enjoyed the pond next door and all of the wild life including ducks and even Elk. Would definitely come back to this location!

Our family has stayed in this home for 5 years now. It’s our favorite place to gather and enjoy the beautiful mountains and the occasional elk visitor we get to witness.

We had a wonderful time with our family. Seeing the Elk was fantastic.

Cottage #3 w 5 bedrooms was a perfect fit for our family to attend a wedding at nearby Willow House & Social Barn. There were 2 King beds w/o footboards for tall family members & lots of bathrooms. The Harry Potter closet led to twin beds + amazing bean bag chairs for our youngest two. They also enjoyed the basketball net & screened pool in the shared outdoor activity area. Early July weather was hot & humid. We appreciated the cabin's zoned AC. The huge kitchen table for morning pancakes & LR couch around the coffee table for card games were perfect for our large family. The LR bar table worked nicely for drinks and hors d'oeuvres. Parking was ample for our cars. Nearby Lake Junaluska was perfect for morning walks with its swans, ducks, and beautiful flower gardens, followed by quick trips to replenish groceries at Publix in Waynesville. My husband & I enjoyed delicious dinners & the excellent waitstaff at Chef's Table in Waynesville. I had the grouper, risotto, and asparagus.

We loved that there was 4 separate bedrooms downstairs and the loft had it’s own bathroom! The bedrooms, living room, and kitchen were roomy! The game room was nice but we didn’t get a chance to take advantage of it. Suggestions would be put location of lockbox with code. Have a accessible closet in the master bedroom, blow off the porches, and make sure the floors are clean before guest arrive. Loved the pond and the morning view from the front porch!

It was perfect for our weekend getaway. Due to the snow, we paid to stay an extra day. The only problem we had was the wifi had trouble staying connected for the ones of us who had to get some work done remotely.
