Newkirk Historic Retreat 33 Washington Street, Wiscasset, ME 04578

This historic, Greek Revival Wiscasset vacation rental is the perfect base for a seaside retreat. This well-maintained property boasts three levels, four bedrooms, a beautiful deck, and is dog-friendly, too! Up to 12 people can stay here and reap the benefits of this beautiful historic manse.

Located in downtown Wiscasset, a sleepy seaside village in the heart of the Boothbay region, this home is within walking distance of antique shops, restaurants, and galleries but also close to the water as well.

While there is no common living room, this home is expansive and comfy, offering many places for quiet reflection and relaxation amid glorious antique furnishings. Head onto the covered porch and enter through the front door. You'll find a full gourmet kitchen with all the necessary gadgets and appliances to make your stay a welcoming one. Pine wood floors and white cupboards abound.

Enjoy a morning cup of coffee at the two-seat breakfast bar and place your used cups in the large dishwasher afterwards. The wooden island boasts plenty of counter space to prep for dinner and the windows offer a scenic view to the environs.

A formal meal can be planned at the large Victorian-style, 10-seat dining table. A vintage white lace tablecloth envelopes the beautiful wooden table and a wooden hutch displays the home's exquisite china. Wash up at the full bathroom just down the hall or enjoy a good book in the small sitting room with its comfy floral sofa and desk for letter writing. Head through the lovely French doors and you're in a gorgeous bedroom, named Alna for the nearby town, with a beautiful queen bed, beige armchair, bed bench, and antiques.

Upstairs you'll find more bedrooms, each with their own bathroom and some with additional sitting areas. One is called the Boothbay Suite and features salmon-colored decor, a queen bed in a wooden frame, and traditional furniture, including a writing desk.

The Camden Suite boasts pumpkin-colored pine floors, a pillow-top queen bed, desk, built-in cabinets, and an antique wing chair for relaxation. The green walls feature a fleur de lis stencil over a faux finishing. You can relax in the adjoining sitting room with a beautiful blue, printed chesterfield sofa and a small brocade bench.

The Dresden Suite occupies the top floor of the home, offering a full bed, kitchenette with sink, small refrigerator, coffee maker, and microwave. Another sitting room comes complete with a desk and chairs and leads into another full bathroom. In total, there's room for 10 guests to sleep comfortably (with a maximum occupancy of 12).

Relax on the deck and enjoy a BBQ on the gas grill. WiFi is available throughout the property but the second and third floors need to use the extension (the modems need to be power-cycled occasionally) and every bedroom has its own TV.

Up to three dogs are welcome with a $10 per day, per pet fee (with a $40 minimum). Weddings can be held on the property as well. There's also one sofabed for additional sleeping options.

Wiscasset village has been named the prettiest village in Maine and one can see why. The tiny hamlet boasts rolling hills, freshwater streams, and plentiful wildlife. Enjoy a variety of hiking trails in the area or tour one of the neighborhood farms.

A number of historic homes downtown are also available for a visit. End your day at one of the quaint seaside eateries and breathe in the fresh air and detox from the every day.

Gorgeous furnishings, a historic feel, and expansive sitting rooms make this Maine vacation rental the choice spot for your next midcoast adventure.

With four bedrooms and four bathrooms our party of 6 had plenty of space and privacy. Our dog enjoyed running in the field behind the property. The owners are nice people who care deeply about the historical significance of the town and have maintained the historical home.

We were a large group (9 adults and 1 baby) and had just enough space for everyone to be comfortable. While there wasn't a family room that we could use, we gathered in the dining room and kitchen. We didn't spend much time in the house as we were out an about exploring the area and attending a wedding in Boothbay. We found everything we needed--plenty of towels, kitchen supplies. I will say the area can get congested, but traffic is no where as bad as Boston! Cars/trucks can be heard when in the house, especially on the first floor bedroom, but it didn't bother us even with our windows cracked (might bother light sleepers). It was great to be able to walk to the town center within 5 minutes, especially in the morning to enjoy the quietness of the river and to grab coffee and goodies. We also met Chris, the owner of the house. He lives next door and gave us a lot of good suggestions on what to see and do. This house was perfect for us (and dogs!) and would highly recommend!

The property is wonderful -- beautifully maintained. The owners were extremely helpful to us. Thye neighborhood is historic and quite interesting. But access to the house fromRoute #1 and especially vice-versa is difficult and somewhat dangerous because it is located on both a curve and hill which limits visibility, especially when leaving the property..
