Art-filled retreat surrounded by trees & gardens, almost an acre of land!
Escape to scenic Bainbridge Island at this truly inspiring artist's cottage, sitting on just under an acre of property. Surrounded by old-growth trees and lovely gardens outside, inside you will be treated to wonderful artwork, antiques, and a spacious, open floor plan.
Located on the south end of Bainbridge Island, between Fort Ward and the town of Bainbridge, this charming home is nothing short of an inspiration. Relax outside on your patio, take a drive into town (or a day trip to Seattle on the ferry), or stroll over to Fort Ward Park, which offers wonderful opportunities for biking, boating, and scuba diving.
You can work away at your next artistic endeavor among reclaimed wood accents and a bright, welcoming design. The open living area, dining room, and kitchen are all one big room, bordered by magical twinkle lights on the ceiling, and two sets of French doors open out to the lovely patio.
Cozy up on the couch in the living area, bringing wood in from the shed to light up the wood stove or opening the doors to let a light breeze whisper in through the doors. Bring your own books if you wish, or borrow a few from this home’s collection. The sofa faces the doors to the patio so you can look out at the trees while you paint, write, or draw.
You'll have high-end appliances in the kitchen (minus a dishwasher), and an array of pots and pans hanging from the walls for a rustic look. The exposed shelves offer dishes, silverware, and all the small appliances you could ask for, from a toaster to a coffeemaker and grinder. A wooden table in the center of the room serves as a kitchen island and a place to eat or drink coffee with two swiveling bar stools. Just off the kitchen, tucked into its own corner of the room by the second set of French doors, a sturdy dining table seats four.
Up to four guests will feel right at home here in two bedrooms with king and queen beds, and two-and-a-half bathrooms. The master bedroom upstairs has a king bed with an elegant chandelier overhead, and connects to a full bathroom with a clawfoot tub and shower nozzle - fill up the tub with bubbles and take a long, soothing soak with a glass of wine, or, on a warm night, step outside to the outdoor clawfoot bathtub (yes, you read that right!) to do the same. A second bedroom upstairs has a queen bed and an adjacent bathroom with a standalone shower.
Your home also comes equipped with a private washer and dryer to keep your things fresh and clean and ready for another day of exploring the island, as well as an additional half-bathroom with a toilet and sink inside the laundry area.
Step outside and observe the lovely gardens, full of birds, or stay inside and read a book (or write your own!) in this creative sanctuary. Wonderfully quiet and peaceful, even with all of the French doors and windows open, this home gives you the privacy you need to tackle your next creative project.
Perfect for when the weather is warm, but really suitable any time of year in this temperate climate, the pea gravel patio also includes a gas grill and outdoor dining table with four chairs, overlooking the gorgeous forested landscape.
During your stay, you'll be near beaches and only about a five-minute drive to downtown Bainbridge, where you can stop for a quick bite at a local eatery or browse novelty shops for the perfect gift to bring back home.
Stoke your artistic flame with a day trip to Seattle - just a few miles from the ferry terminal, a ride by boat over to the city means some of the most breathtaking views of Seattle available and a chance to explore its urban downtown. From attractions like Pike Place Market and the Space Needle to small coffee shops, hole-in-the-wall bakeries, and hidden away bookstores to suit even the most voracious reader, this gorgeous and eclectic city is well worth a visit.
Book today and enjoy peace, quiet, and art at this lovely and bright vacation home on Bainbridge Island.
Beautiful property decorated by the touch of an artist...
I could not say enough how beautiful, clean and comfortable this home is. I loved every single minute of my get away here. This home is meticulously kept, organized from top to bottom and the kitchen is stocked with everything you need. The bathtubs and fireplace was a huge hit for me, as I came to relax and enjoy some R&R. I would ( and will) stay here again and again. Thank you so much to the owners, all I wanted in my weekend away.
I spent two days here with a close friend for a staycation and the house was perfect for what we were looking for. Exceptionally clean, every amenity you could need, a well stocked kitchen and a beautiful claw foot tub! The floors upstairs are heated which added a luxurious feel to the home. Beds were comfortable, we couldn’t have asked for more!
We enjoyed our stay in this peaceful, charming retreat. I love to cook and was very happy to find a well designed and fully functional kitchen, The house itself was very cozy, with comfortable beds and nice bathrooms! Loved the heated floors in the bathroom. We enjoyed the comfortable couch and a nice fire one night. The property was very quiet and not too far from town and the ferry. My husband and I would definitely come back again! Loved all the great art work!
So delightful! All the appointments, furniture, art were lovely! Entry and closing up was a breeze. Some things missing- the heaters are terrible. The one by the door closest to the driveway doesn’t work at all. Plan to build a fire. It is not optional if it is cold out! Bring wood with you. It is expensive in town. The only other thing is that as a single woman, having no curtains anywhere in this all glass door house was a little unerving. I do not get nervous and I was nervous. I get what you are trying to create but good to just be aware. Otherwise it was perfect for a three day private work retreat. I will be back. With wood!
We appreciate our guest leaving their feedback with us. The heater is scheduled for repair, and we have suggested curtains to the owner. Thank you!
Love the decor and kitchen. Quiet place for a couple or small family. Very clean and updated. Would go back if ever in the Bainbridge area!
This immaculate artists retreat was perfect for our northwest getaway. The vibe was so perfect from the garden property to the art filled walls. The beds are super comfortable and all the creature comforts are there. We will definitely return!
Loved staying at this property. This place was like a dream home for my wife and I, and it's right up the road from a wonderful state park. I would love to stay here again in the future. The kitchen was fun and open. It had everything we needed to cook. The views out the huge french doors were beautiful. The lack of TV was great. We spent our time disconnected from our electronics which was much needed. The bed was very comfortable. We slept so well. The bathrooms were inviting (my wife loved the heated flooring and the bathtub). The art was wonderfully placed throughout the home as well. This was a very inspiring yet relaxing place to spend our time. We truly loved our stay.
This space was perfect for a restful, low tech weekend with friends. This house is so intentionally and creatively designed!!
Loved the quiet neighborhood and the location away from town. Easy entry and access and enough pleasant amenities to be flexible during the stay. We appreciated the kitchen and laundry room. Both were more useful than we had imagined.
We loved the art and gardens.
The Artist's retreat was a delight. Well-appointed with everything we could need, and the gardens were a delight. The retreat is a bit of a hike from Bainbridge Island attractions, but we found Uber was readily available to get us where we needed to go during our stay on the island. We would definitely stay at this property again!
Such a beautiful home in a quiet neighborhood. We loved staying on the island away from the loud city. It was charming and cozy
Very well appointed vacation spot - just right for a holiday on Bainbridge Island - convenient location. Look forward to returning!
Very spacious and comfortable, just like the pictures showed (if not more so). Made a great weekend getaway location.
The artwork. The bedrooms. The bath. Plenty of supplies. Close to Winslow & Lynwood Center & Lytle Beach.
We had the best time; even our 11 & 12 year olds loved it! We decided to stay here instead of Seattle for the Taylor Swift concert. We came in Monday, explored a bit of the island, hung out, played cards (provided) and Jenga (at the house) and enjoyed the twinkle lights everywhere. Tuesday we woke up late, had breakfast outside, enjoyed the sounds of the birds, took a luxurious bath in the claw foot tub, enjoyed the garden and worked on a puzzle (also at the house). The Ferry was easy (so we didn’t have to mess with parking) and the late check-out couldn’t have been more appreciated! Thank you for such a wonderful experience! We will definitely be back soon!
Bainbridge is such an amazing treat. And this house helped!!!
I went to the property to read and work on a personal project. The house was great , well stocked with cooking equipment, and clean. Not having a TV or any other distractions was a huge bonus. The house itself is closer to the two neighbors than the pictures make it out to be but still very private and cozy. Also the stove is great, I'd recommended buying 1 to 1.5 bundles of wood per night from the Town and Country market before arriving. Finally be sure to bring an eye mask and earplugs, the bedrooms get quite bright in the morning and if it's foggy the ships will toot their foghorns at night.
This is a very comfortable house and I regret not having enough time to enjoy the house and the surrounding property more. The kitchen is very well equipped, which is a huge plus. I can't wait to come back with my family!
The only thing I would change is that next time I'll rent a car. Not the easiest place to get around without a car and the house is located near the top of a very steep hill!
We greatly enjoyed our stay at Vacasa. Everything was perfect. High quality bedding, furniture, and beautiful art everywhere. We loved how the house was nestled in the woods but still a close drive to civilization. It was a treat to use the claw foot tub and lavender soaking salts, and then to step onto the heated stone flooring. Exceptionally comfortable and stylish place. Will definitely come back!
Bring a book and clear your mind. Very peaceful natural surroundings and home. Very open and cozy. Wood stove is perfect.
If we are in the area again we will be using this place for sure. Definitely recommend renting a car if you are going to do some serious exploring but this is a great launch point for adventures in the Pacific northwest. It was amazing to be out all day and come back to a relaxing bath and fire with the option to cook a home made meal this place is tops.
This was a gorgeous property, well stocked with all the little things that made is a perfect home away from home. Nice, quiet, and relaxing stay. Thank you!
Our stay on Bainbridge Island was great. The home was awesome, and loved the surrounding area. Great for a weekend getaway.
Enjoy the peace and quite.
I stayed here with my two sisters for a weekend. The peaceful grounds and beautiful home have great energy, definitely an artist 's touch is felt everywhere you go in this home. Would definitely recommend this and hope to stay here again.
We loved the property and the island. Had everything we needed there and great customer service from vacasa.
This by far was one of our favorite places to stay with any vacasa rental we've booked in the past. We loved the openness, the layout, the landscaping and outdoor living arrangements and the location. It had a laid back artsy vibe but was super clean and comfortable. All of the amenities were provided.
I don't know if we could complain much but water pressure is low in the showers and no curtains on the windows. During the week we were there it was so hot the curtains could've kept it a bit cooler but overall small complaints. We'd rent this again and again!
Had a great time, nice relaxing view and comfortable beds!
Sadly, we were not allowed to have our family come over to share a meal. We had a family reunion and it would have been so nice to be able to gather at one house. Our homes aren't finished so we didn't have a homey place to gather. That being said, we probably wouldn't have brought them over anyway as the artwork was somewhat disturbing to us. We also found the spirit in the house to be unfriendly to Christians. We also had someone come to the house at 12:30 AM and knock on the door several times. I was sleeping at the time and it woke me up. When I went downstairs to check, no one was there. This happened 2 times and was quite upsetting. The rail to the stairway also wasn't easy to hang on to. And there are no reading lights in the bedrooms.
We appreciate this guest taking the time to post this review. We would like to sincerely apologize for any inconvenience they may have experienced. We are sorry you were unable to have a family gathering at the home due to guest occupancy restrictions. While we try to accommodate this type of request, often well and septic limitations restrict the number of guests at the home. Please be assured that we have followed up with an inspection to address the report of the lack of reading lights and review of hand railing. We are so sorry to hear this guest found the artwork unsettling. While the photos of the home clearly show the artwork, it can be difficult to assess how the artwork would impact us emotionally until it is seen in person. We will monitor the home closely for any additional visitors in the night. This has not occurred before. We are so sorry this guest's sleep was disturbed.
The house was beautiful, great location for our family. Our kiddo especially loved the outdoor tub. Close to a lot of amazing hikes. Kitchen was great for cooking, had everything we needed.
It is said that calm and essentiality bring the best within ourselves and I believe that our stay at the artist's retreat did just that!
We played games and cooked every meals there and enjoy the relaxing and invigorating vibes of the trees and water.
We travel in and out of the island pretty easily enjoying going back "home"!!! :-)
I really enjoyed our stay their in the house and the Island. The house was really clean, landscape is really good. You can barbecue outside. You can eat outside, there is a table and a couple of chairs. Landscape provides privacy for you. You are able to shower outside too, if you want too. Although you do have neighbors not far off. There are shops in walking distance, the shore is in in walking distance, Fort Wade Park is in walking distance and has trails.
There was one hick up where the combination being change earlier in the day for the access to the keys. Communication on that change they drop the ball.
There is no TV or cable, so bring a book or be prepared to talk a lot with your family. Which is a good thing.
The Artist's Retreat was in a beautiful location and had plenty of room. About a 5min drive to downtown Bainbridge/Ferry and about a 5 min walk to the beach. Perfect location for a getaway weekend!
The property is beautiful. A spacious first floor with large french doors giving access to a nice terrace. A functional and well eqquiped kitchen, anyone who like to cook will enjoy the Italian gaz range. On the second floor , two large and bright rooms, each with their private bathroom (one with shower, the other with bath). Overall decorated with style and taste.
The location was ideal, bringing us to Seattle in just over half an hour and giving acess to Olympic park for hikking with a little less driving.
Was one of our most appreciate stay from numerous experience.
We will be back anytime we come up to visit family, perfect spot for a small family get together or a great private get away. Very well appointed property with everything you'll need!
This house was such a treat!
I loved everything about this place. The tall ceilings, the natural materials, the concrete floor, the outdoor tub, the super cool kitchen and the big master bedroom. The whole place is perfect. I want to come back soon. Maybe for forever. :)
The Artist's Retreat is a great place to get away from the bustle of the City without travelling very far. The property is fairly well secluded, but amenities are only a quick drive away. The living and bedrooms are very spacious as is the master bathroom, the only space that is very tiny is the bathroom with the shower.
We were able to get a lot of work done on our project. Great internet connection, we brought our apple TV and a television and were able to work and watch movies. Very quiet and secluded. We really liked it.
I had a great time here. I was looking for quiet time in nature and I got it. The house is very clean, comfortable and has beautiful natural light. I spent most of my time in front of the fire, listening to music on the home's bluetooth speaker (very appreciated). A couple things to note: bring a sleep mask if you are hoping to sleep in (there are no window coverings), the range is 24" wide so baking is limited, and the water heater is pretty small so don't waste any hot water if you want to fill the bathtub. But the fridge is huge, the dining room table is spacious and everything in the house is beautiful. I will recommend this house to all friends and family looking for an island rental.
Beautiful property and beautiful home to enjoy a lovely time relaxing and taking in the place and surroundings.
It was comfortable, quiet, cozy. We enjoyed our stay!
It's a beautiful space with original art and interesting design. Bring a car as it is not next to anything like food or walks. Hopefully the owners will leave more basic cooking supplies so you can cook.
These are my suggestions to the owners:
1. Be clear about the lock box combination (it works on the backyard door, not the main entrance) 2. Make sure that there are some cooking basics
3. Tell visitors that there is very limited uber. lyft, taxi service around the island and you should either have a car or make sure to stop beforehand.
Loved this gorgeous home that was close to downtown and great parks. It was the perfect place to wind down after a day of sightseeing. Beautiful furnishings and art work. Lovely landscaped grounds, we truly enjoyed siting outside even if it was chilly. Would have loved to have a proper TV; however, the internet access was strong and allowed to watch movies on computer.
Considering the cost of this property there are very few amenities, one shower inside, no TV, patio furniture not very comfortable.
We are sorry to see that this stay was disappointing. The pictures of the home indicate the bathroom arrangements, and TV is not advertised as an amenity at the bottom of the home's description and calendar.
The artist cottage is really lovely and we'll definitely be back! It was a little spare on the interior, but everything was so carefully chosen, we really felt like we were staying in an artist's home. The beds were super comfortable and the setting was extremely private-feeling, even though there are houses relatively nearby. The gardens are beautiful and we enjoyed sitting outside to look at the stars after the kids went to sleep. If you do have children, you might want to bring some kid dishes. A previous guest had mentioned this and we forgot—we didn't break anything but I did worry about it! It's a very special place and I'm so glad we discovered it!
I came here w a handful of friends to write and record music for 5 days. The space is bright, beautiful and relaxing. Highly recommended!
This house is gorgeous and the property is beautifully landscaped and relaxing. Very close to restaurants, an amazing bakery and shopping. The outdoor bathtub was my kids favorite. The bed was very comfortable, the house was very clean. For parents of small kids I'd recommend bringing your own cups and plates if you don't want them using glasses and ceramic dishes. No TV in house which is a great way to be forced to unplug and unwind. Absolutely perfect getaway house.
