I'm leaving a two-star review because nobody takes one-star reviews seriously. But be warned, this cabin is chock full of disappointments. Disappointments are certainly relative. What's disappointing at $700 per night might be completely understandable at $150 per night. If I were renting this place for a fishing weekend at $150, the issues would have been easily overlooked. But when you charge people a premium price, they expect a premium experience... this one ain't it kids. Let's go over the Pros and Cons. #1 Location, Pro: the location is pretty good and was the main draw and reason for choosing it. The property is located well into the Aska adventure area and close to hikes and trout streams. Con: the only downside of this location is that there are very few amenities nearby, so plan your activities and meals well in advance. This is true of all cabins in the woods and not a specific negative about this property. #2 Vacasa management, Pro: I've rented numerous properties on the bigger sites but this was my first Vacasa experience. Vacasa provides you with good, clear communication about the check-in and access. Con: you will have no contact with the owners and no chance to ask and receive local knowledge. But more importantly, you're stuck in the world of canned scripted responses when you do ask a question or have an issue (and we, unfortunately, had more than our fair share of issues during the stay). #3 Parking, Pro: covered parking for one car. Con: parking was advertised as two spaces. If you have two cars, one will have to park across the street or behind the covered car, essentially blocking it in (a slight nuisance on the steep incline). #4 Amenities, Pro: the property has a working fridge, gas range, washer and dryer. You will be provided with a roll of paper towels and two rolls of TP. Cons: bring your own drinkware/cups/mugs/glasses. There were four drinking glasses, one with a large crack through which your beer will undoubtedly leak no matter how you tilt the glass to avoid the crack. There were no coffee filters (this one really pissed me off). #5 TV, Pro: there is a nice TV. Con: The TV service was disconnected. #5b, Sonos! Pro: wow there's Sonos in this little cabin! Con: No Sonos for you! Sadly the Sonos would not work for mere renters. #6 Internet, Pro: Hey there's internet out here. Con: The wifi had been changed, leaving the instructions and password they provided worthless... and No you will not have reliable cell service out here, so if you expect to make a call or text you'll need that wifi. #7 Hot tub, Pro: there is a hot tub and it seemed pretty warm. Con: While the idea of a hot tub seemed great at first, honestly it had a strong odor and I didn't trust it. #8 Garbage. Pro: there is a locking garbage container. Con: Now this was really inexcusable... it was clear that the garbage had not been collected in weeks, like many weeks, way more than four week's worth. Did the neighbors use this as their dump? Bags were stacked up around the container... And it stunk. Like Manhattan in the Summer. All that garbage piled up in the front of the place like it's totally normal. This was not behind the house or hidden in some corner. No, this was right in front of the main stairs to the entrance. Let's review why a property in the woods would need a garbage container: 1) raccoons; 2) bears. It took two days and numerous messages to Vacasa to get them to clean up the damn garbage pile that was drawing flies and raising my blood pressure every time I walked by. I honestly think the Vacasa people thought I was kidding about the garbage when I reached out to them... wish I could post some pictures of it here. OK so enough with the lists of Pros and Cons as if I'm really unbiased. The other issues I remember: daughter freaked out about gross sheets. I think she found hairs. I was too agitated at that point to even look, knowing it would be something I couldn't unsee. Oh yes, the towels. Jeez Vacasa and their extra stingy attitude about towels. So Vacasa says they provide 1.5x the number of towels for the max number of guests. Yeah, sure they do. We had nine towels total but three got soaked because they under a leaky sink. Vacasa was quick to send a guy to remedy the leaky sink, but they never provided the towels they said. Anything else? Yep, the outdoor seating... this cabin provides photos of a nice deck overlooking the river. I was willing to sacrifice one of the precious towels to dry off the chairs so we'd at least have a place to sit, but then I saw the condition of the chairs. The chairs are just there to taunt you, dare you to sit on them. Their UV beaten and torn fabric cannot hold the weight of an average 6-foot man (under 200lbs thank you very much). Yeah, basically the patio chairs are unusable except to hang your wet clothes on. There is a second set of outdoor seating on the driveway level, but those cushions were always soaked by the rain, so pretty much not usable. But you can stand there and look at the river. Just don't lean on the railings too much (or at all) or somebody's going to have a really bad landing down on the asphalt below. No, seriously, DO NOT LEAN on the railings. Well one positive thing I can say is that the Vacasa people were very nice and friendly when I texted them, as was the guy who fixed the sink. So, if you can get this place for under $200/nt and you pack your own towels, maybe this is a fine little cabin.
