Recent The Big Island, Hawaii vacation rental reviews

You only have to drive nine miles from the Kona international airport until you turn off into Kona Reef parking lot, and after a short walking distance we arrived at our Oceanfront Condo. We stepped into the immaculately clean, beautifully decorated condo and were stunned by the sight of the ocean and the sound of the surf which was a mere 30 yards in front of our condo. Coffee shops, restaurants, live music, and shopping were within a short walking distance from our condo which saved us hundreds of dollars in parking fees. We spent every night on our lanai with drinks in hand to watch the unobstructed beautiful sunsets. We enjoyed the grill/hot tub/pool area as well by grilling some Salmon. We have found our vacation spot and have already planned a trip here in October and another in April 2024.

We stayed in the property for Spring Break. My husband and I and two teenagers had the most amazing time. The condo is absolute perfection. The furnishings and decor are high end and thoughtful. What I really appreciated is that the kitchen/cooking set up had everything that we needed and it was all very high quality and in good working order. The location was a dream. My husband and I made coffee every morning and sat on the patio looking at the water and the golfers. We walked into the little village area for more coffee on the manicured, resort paths. It was very safe and the teenagers were able to go off exploring on their own without any worries. The suggestions for beaches and activities were on point. This property is very close to the most beautiful beaches. Everything we needed for the beach was thoughtfully provided. We did not use the pool area as much, since we are "beach" people, but we did go one afternoon and it was fantastic. We also went up to pool/hangout area for happy hour and for dinner one night. We were very close to all activities. We went down to Kona several times for boat excursions and it was very accessible. I really did not know what to expect, since I had not been to this island since I was a kid. The property and its surroundings exceeded my expectations in every way. We travel a lot and this is one of the nicest condos I have visited. I highly, highly recommend. We did call the Vacasa rep with a question one time and they were super friendly and helpful. Thanks for allowing us to experience this wonderful property. We will visit again!

Everything was exactly as described in the description! We loved it! Clean and comfortable! Personally, I loved the watercolor paintings, and especially loved that the “Good Book” was in the condo! so nicely decorated and convenient to the places we wanted to go to… would definitely stay there again!

Clear-Water Beaches on the Big Island

There are plenty of reasons that so many of Hawaii’s most popular beachside resorts can be found along the western coast where the crystal blue waters roll, rush, and even rage over the shimmering white sands and jagged cliffs offering must-visit destinations for surfing, swimming, and sunbathing.

In Puako, you’ll find tide pools brimming with ocean life as well as spectacular offshore sites for snorkeling and scuba diving. Additional spots offering sublime beaches include Kailua-Kona 31 miles down the coast from Puako, as well as Kapoho with its volcanically-heated tide pools, located on the opposite side of the island.

Exploring the Big Island of Hawaii

If you’re looking to hike, explore, and see unique natural features as well as sites of historic interest, start your journey walking the fascinating King’s Trail that once meandered for over 30 miles connecting the villages of Kailua and Kona in the south to Puako in the north. From here, you can view the Puako petroglyph fields boasting over 3,000 ancient drawings carved into the volcanic rock. Check out the seven historic fish ponds (also in the Puako area) and learn their fascinating history that may well date back to as early as 250 B.C.!

In the quaint community of Captain Cook, located about 12 miles south of Kailua-Kona, be sure to hike out to the Captain James Cook Monument and enjoy the panoramic ocean views. If you’re a coffee drinker, don't miss the Kona Coffee Living History Farm.

About 100 miles from Captain Cook, the historic hamlet of Honomu stands as the gateway to Akaka Falls State Park, home of Akaka Falls, a dramatic, 422-foot waterfall, surely the most famous waterfall in all of East Hawai’i! And just 50 miles from Honomu, find yourself in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, where you can hike or cycle to glowing lava flows and explore dormant lava tubes.

Modern Conveniences on the Big Island

The Big Island of Hawai’i is not just about beaches, hiking trails, and plunging waterfalls. Many guests come to enjoy the many deluxe amenities of beachside resorts, to shop in charming boutiques or waterfront malls, or to challenge the holes of a number of world famous golf courses, including the 18-hole Waikoloa Village Golf Club where you can play your way through lush greens while enjoying breathtaking views of five different volcanoes.

Whether you're visiting the award-winning, beachside resorts, golfing on some of the most beautiful golf courses in the world, or heading out to explore the lush parks and dramatic volcanoes, experience it all from one of our Big Island vacation rentals and condos!
