Overall, this little cottage was exactly what my wife and I were looking for in a romantic winter getaway spot. The cottage has a hot tub around back, which is great in the snow, and provided small, high quality soaps and lotions in the bathroom. Additionally, if you bring food to cook, you are provided with all the cooking tools needed to prepare meals. Although the main walking path to the lake was closed for renovations, the cottage is still within a 10 minute walk to the main beach. In addition to being close to the beach, the cottage is also close to the main town street, and also the Nevada/California border.

A couple of issues we encountered during our stay were 1) There were many spiders in the cottage, as to be expected in a forest cottage. 2) The shower was quite small, so take note if that may be an issue. 3) Although the listing said that coffee would be provided, we did not find any. Luckily we brought our own anyway, so it wasn't an issue.

In conclusion, this place was just what we were looking for in a long weekend away, and its great location is perfect for those looking to stay in North Tahoe.

While this cabin may be short in size, it’s character is huge! This little gem has all 2 people need for a cozy retreat in the mountains...and it is cozy! Think RV space with the perks of a cabin. Love the attention to all the details, amenities, all the artistic design features! Deck with a bit of a lake view with your own private fire pit, walking distance to lake access (although with the lake full there is no beach!)
Shared access with the other house on the property to a hot tub was another bonus, all set amongst the most delightful of settings. If u appreciate design and art in a natural, quiet, simple setting, you will love this little gem! We certainly did!

Over all our stay at the Little Dipper was perfect. It’s in a very quiet neighborhood away from the tourism but close enough to enjoy the amenities. Although when we got there the coffee pot was dirty with old coffee in it and the bed frame seemed very unstable
Manager response:
We apologize for the dirty coffee maker; we have given it a good cleaning and follow-up with housekeeping. The bad screws in the bed frame have been taken care of. Thank you!

My (new!) husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon and while there were many good things about this little cabin, there were just a few things I wish I would have known ahead of time. Nothing bad, just a few FYI's for anyone reading the reviews. (I'll get to the good in a second!)

This may or may not be important to your stay, but we were unaware that there would be no AC. The first two days were a little warm, especially after spending the day at the beach, it would have been nice to come back to a cool cabin. It has lots of windows and opening the front French doors and running the fans helped, we just wish it would have been something we were prepared for. At night, it really cooled down so that wasn’t too bad.

There is not a full-sized fridge. We had to get creative in meal planning since the fridge/freezer combo is the size of a dorm fridge. Again, nothing that would make or break the trip, we just had to plan our grocery shopping trips carefully. Which meant a few stops to the Safeway throughout the week instead of just one main trip at the beginning of the week.

The hot tub is in a shared space with the other cabin. We don’t believe we had neighbors for the week, and we only used the hot tub once, but just a heads up that those who stay in the Big Dipper will have full view of the hot tub. My husband was too sun burnt to stay in long, and I’m pregnant and couldn’t get in anyway, so it wasn’t a huge deal to us, but might be to others. The water was also a little dirty, probably from people walking barefoot to get to it and not thinking about dirty feet. The controls were in Spanish, so getting them back to English so we could run the jets was entertaining to anyone watching, I’m sure.

Give yourself plenty of time for multiple showers, the warm water lasted only about 10 minutes and the whoever got in second had to wait about a half hour for the water to be warm again.

Now the good! I did see a few reviews mentioning how the bed was stiff, but for us this was perfectly fine! Having the option of a washer and dryer was really nice too, we only used it on the last day, but I liked knowing we could use it whenever we needed to. The unique and creative storage space in a such a small cabin was really awesome, especially in the bathroom, the use of the old locker bins as drawers was neat. This goes for the kitchen as well, it seems small at first, but the lazy Susan cabinet and the wood shelf for the dishes were both great ideas for whoever designed the space. The living room was cozy and even though we hardly used it, having the cable TV was a nice touch. We usually just watched the news in the mornings and that was it.

The deck and porch space were my favorite. I loved taking my coffee out there each morning to just sit and read. It was also very nice having the gas fire pit to use at night to sit outside for dinner and just relax. Having the grill plumbed in to the gas was nice too, very easy to use! The cabin comes with two kayaks which we used once. There are wheel carts to set to them on so the walk down to Speedboat beach was easy! It was nice to enjoy those for a morning. If we would have had more time, I’m sure we would have used them again.

Overall, we would stay here again for sure. Even with a little one coming soon, it would still be perfect for us. I would recommend this cabin to anyone who wants to be close to a quiet beach area, and a very short drive (just a few minutes) into Kings Beach for more beaches, shopping, eating, and fun!
Manager response:
Most homes in the area do not have air conditioning as it is typically not necessary; we apologize if this came as a surprise to our guest. The unit has a small kitchenette with all of the basic needs for guest to whip up breakfast or a lovely dinner . We do state in the listing that the hot tub is shared and apologize our guests missed this information. It was serviced and cleaned before check-in. Our guests could have called for an additional cleaning and help with the control panel, and we would have been happy to assist. The water heater is a 50 gallon tank and is functioning correctly. Thank you!

Great little house for two people may be a little tight with three or four. Very close to all Lake Tahoe attractions and restaurants. Flying in to Reno, the drive is less than an hour which makes for easy travel. No air condition, but having the windows open during the day gets the house nice and cool.

The most gorgeous little cabin in a great location. Just a five minute walk away from speedboat beach and a short drive from the shops. We had everything we needed and cooked all our meals on the BBQ rather than going out for dinner as we loved the cabin so much. The fire pit and jacuzzi were both fantastic and we made good use of these everyday! Absolutely loved it and will 100% be booking again in the future :)

This was a super cozy little place, it was nice having the nest to control the air, while watching cable tv then walking to the lake!
There is also a washer and dryer in there which makes it super nice to clean your clothes!
Highly recommend staying at this place

This cabin was the perfect location. We would probably stay again only the bed was a bit too small and uncomfortable. The hot tub water was dirty and the dryer didn't work very well. I loved the fireplace and the coffee maker they provided.

We absolutely fell in love with this cabin. It has a great location, and they did a great job furnishing and decorating the place to make it feel like a homey cabin. It’s the perfect size for two, and we loved it so much that we can definitely see ourself staying here again in the future!

My husband and I stayed here 3 nights for our 1 year anniversary. It was perfect for us. Tiny but very nice! I would stay here again and the town Kings Beach was very nice!

We decided to stay at the Little Dipper during what has become more of a snowboarding tour than a romantic week away. When we go on our annual February trip out west, it is usually to hit as many mountains as we can for as long as we can. But this cute setup actually kept things romantic (even for a couple of jocks). We had coffee in the mornings on the bank of the lake (only a short walk from the house, with the most beautiful views of the clear water) and enjoyed the hot tub after long days on the mountain. We even caught a glimpse of a little wildlife in the evenings on our way back from dinner: bear, fox, coyotes).

It is small, but could not be more perfect for two people. The laundry was super helpful and we loved the easy fireplace.

I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for a cozy place to relax! My boyfriend and I are already trying to convince our friends to join in next year's trip so we can rent the larger house!

We absolutely loved our stay at the Little Dipper! This cabin has everything you need for a getaway weekend and so much more. It is so incredibly cozy, has all the amenities you could want (grill, fire pit, hot tub, fireplace) but allows you the privacy of having your own spot. The staff was amazing and so helpful to make our stay comfortable. We had a hard time leaving at the end of our trip because we fell in love with this wonderful spot! I would highly recommend staying here!

Friday night arrives to a clean little cabin off Dip Ln in Lake Tahoe.
The Little Dipper was a perfect size cabin for a small family of 4.
Beautifully designed with a calming vibe cabin.
Easy location and weather let us enjoy a perfect weekend get away. Plenty of pit stops and adventures surround the lake.
Manager response:
We are very pleased that the guests enjoyed the cabin’s beauty and charm; and their enjoyment of the lake. We should make it clear and the maximum occupancy of the cabin is two people, since there is only one double bed. Thank you.

Me and my boyfriend loved the house, small and cozy, has super soft linens and towels, is clean, warm and very well located. I recommend. Strolling by the lake is delightful, getting to know the next town and skiing, everything perfect.

This house was perfect for a short weekend. It is close to great restaurants in downtown Truckee and also within walking distance to Speedboat Beach.
