Make Lake Michigan your next getaway

Sometimes, when standing on the shores of Lake Michigan, it’s easy to forget the endless waters before you are a lake, not an ocean. The name Michigan is the French form of the Ojibwa word mishigamaa, meaning “large water” or “large lake.” There are endless opportunities for a getaway along these hundreds of miles of shoreline. If you’re searching for lakeside bliss, look no further than our Lake Michigan vacation rentals.

Recent Lake Michigan guest reviews

This home was very cozy and inviting. I stayed in the enclosed porch pretty much during my stay. Spacious back yard with a pool for summer use. 2 fire pits for families to enjoy or even just one person such as myself. Minutes from downtown where there is a lot to do to keep yourself entertained while in the area. A perfect location and a home away from home. Thank you.

I took my 12 year old son here for his birthday. It was the PERFECT location! It’s a very very short walk to the beach and to town. The house was the perfect size for the two of us. The high ceilings with sunlights made the house bright and open. The neighbors are very friendly and gave advice on places to see. We visited during the off season but still had so many things to do and see. I was contacted by text messages to be sure our stay was going well, which was thoughtful and appreciated. It was comforting to know that help was available if we needed it. I can’t say enough good about this house and the location. We hope to stay again!

We have stayed in the house several times over the years. Great location. Warm and inviting home. Terrific place for a trip to Glen Arbor and surrounding area.

Where is Lake Michigan?

Lake Michigan is one of the five Great Lakes, and the only one that’s entirely contained in the U.S. While it’s the third-largest of the Great Lakes, it’s also almost as large as the entire State of West Virginia. Its borders are shared by Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan. Vacasa offers a number of vacation homes along many of these beautiful shores, from Chicago to the fingertips of Michigan’s “mitten.”

Lake Michigan vacation rentals in Chicago

Why not start with the most bustling of these areas: the Windy City? Our rentals are just minutes from Millennium Park and its famous Cloud Gate sculpture—sometimes known as “The Bean”—which rests on the shores of Lake Michigan. Public art, e-bike tours, theaters, restaurants, and even ice skating in winter are right at your fingertips.

Lake Michigan cabin rentals in Harbor Country

Traveling east from Chicago, and following along the shores of the lake, you’ll soon come across beautiful Harbor Country. This area in southwestern Michigan is a popular destination for families and couples, due to its abundance of lakeside activities and peaceful way of life. Towns in this picturesque area include New Buffalo, Union Pier, Lakeside, and Harbert.

Book a romantic sailing excursion, or take the whole family out for a kayaking adventure—there are plenty of local rental companies ready to help. Explore Warren Dunes State Park, where a 260-foot sand dune offers an ideal perch for sunset views. Or taste wines along the Lake Michigan Shore Wine Trail. Harbor Country is right in the heart of Michigan’s wine country, so be sure to take advantage of this collection of more than 20 wineries offering tasting rooms and tours.

Lake Michigan vacation homes in Saugatuck

This artsy beach town is well-known for its quirky flair and cute downtown. Be sure to spend an afternoon exploring the boutiques, restaurants, fudge shops, and more. Need a quick caffeine fix? Pop into Uncommon Coffee Roasters for locally-roasted coffee and espresso. Saugatuck is also home to a number of craft breweries, including Guardian, The Mitten, and Saugatuck Brewing Companies.

Not only will you be right beside Lake Michigan, but the gently flowing Kalamazoo River winds through the town. You can stroll along the docks, watching the boats come and go. Or if you’re looking for a little more adventure, take the short hike to Saugatuck Dunes State Park, where you can either remain on the beach for incredible vistas or hike a little further.

Lake Michigan vacation rentals in Harbor Springs

With two beautiful beaches right in city limits, you can’t go wrong with a trip to Harbor Springs. This small resort city sits on Little Traverse Bay, right at the fingertips of the “mitten.” It’s popular in the summer for its bustling festivals and Fourth of July fireworks display, and in the autumn, it’s the perfect place to see the colorful foliage.

Spend an afternoon exploring the downtown area, rich with arts and culture, popping into the many art galleries and boutiques. Or you can just admire all the beauty of Lake Michigan that surrounds you.

It makes perfect sense that such a vast lake would have endless ways to experience its beauty. Our Lake Michigan vacation homes are perfect for any occasion, from bustling city life to romantic wine-country escapes to a place for the whole family to enjoy.
