Pamela K. | Mar 2026
The condo was very clean and comfortable. The views were amazing not only from the wrap around balcony, but also from inside the unit because of the floor to ceiling windows. The master bedroom bed was comfortable and we appreciated all the extra outlets, nightlights, closet and drawer space. The beachy decor was great. Unfortunately, we had an issue with the heating system that impacted our stay. Other than that, it was lovely.

Best areas to stay in Ocean City, MD

Downtown & the Boardwalk

This is classic Ocean City—lively, walkable, and full of nostalgia. The Boardwalk stretches three miles through the heart of downtown, lined with restaurants, shops, arcades, and amusement rides.

Midtown (roughly 28th–60th Streets)

Midtown is the sweet spot. You’re central enough to reach both the Boardwalk and the quieter northern end, with a strong mix of condos, restaurants, and beach access spread throughout. Less frenetic than downtown, but never dull.

North Ocean City (60th Street and above)

The vibe shifts here—calmer, a bit more residential, with a little more breathing room on the beach. You’re also closer to the Delaware line, which puts Fenwick Island and Bethany Beach within easy reach for a day trip.

West Ocean City

Across the bridge, West Ocean City sits on the bayside, where you’ll find marinas, seafood shacks, outlet shopping, and easier parking. This is a smart pick for anyone who wants to be close to the action without paying oceanfront prices.

What to do while you’re here

Walk the Ocean City Boardwalk

The Ocean City Boardwalk is the heartbeat of the destination—a classic stretch of funnel cake stands, gift shops, saltwater taffy, and people-watching that never gets old. Go in the morning for a peaceful walk. Go at night for the full spectacle.

Assateague Island

Just 8 miles south of Ocean City, Assateague Island is a completely different world, with wild ponies roaming freely on pristine, undeveloped shoreline and some of the best nature on the Mid-Atlantic coast.

Amusement parks & rides

Jolly Roger and Trimper’s Rides near the Boardwalk (which has been spinning since 1893) deliver all the classic thrills—go-karts, waterpark slides, carnival rides, and miniature golf.

Fishing charters, sunset cruises & bayside dining

Book a deep-sea fishing charter for a real offshore adventure, or keep it mellow with a sunset cruise on the bay. Bayside restaurants offer a slower, more scenic dining experience.

Maryland seafood

Steamed blue crabs, crab cakes, crab dip—eat all of it. Ocean City’s seafood scene ranges from casual crab houses where you crack shells at picnic tables covered in newspaper to proper sit-down spots with serious menus.

Why Ocean City is ideal for a family vacation

Make it about reasons to book:

Kid-friendly attractions are everywhere

Between the Boardwalk rides, amusement parks, arcades, mini golf, and the ocean itself, fun comes naturally.

Easy beach days, easy logistics

Ocean City’s beaches are clean, well-maintained, and easy to access from most rental properties. There’s no complicated transportation situation—you park once and let the beach bus (or walking) handle the rest.

Stress-free dining

Quick eats are everywhere—pizza by the slice, boardwalk staples, seafood shacks—so feeding a hungry family between beach sessions doesn’t require a reservation or a plan.

Family-friendly rental amenities

Condo communities in Ocean City frequently offer community pools, elevators, and layouts that give everyone their own space at the end of a long day.

Great for all ages

Ocean City delivers it all for everyone in the family—rides for the kids, the Boardwalk for the teens, and fresh seafood and sunset views for the adults.

Tips from locals for first-time visitors

Use the beach bus

The Beach Bus (OC’s free circulator) runs the length of the island and saves you significant time, money, and irritation. Park once, ride freely, repeat.

Your neighborhood matters

The Boardwalk area is lively, loud, fun, and walkable to everything. In comparison, North Ocean City delivers quieter beaches, more breathing room, and calmer mornings.

Plan at least one bayside sunset

It’s the thing Ocean City visitors almost always say they wish they’d done sooner. Book a bayside dinner, or find a spot on the bay and just watch.

Book peak weeks early—especially oceanfront

Oceanfront condos and large group houses in Ocean City fill up fast, especially in July and August. Book months in advance.

Check the event calendar before you book

Ocean City hosts major car shows, holiday weekends, and themed events that bring significant crowds and price jumps.

Vacation Rentals in Ocean City FAQ

What’s the difference between oceanfront and bayside rentals in Ocean City?

Oceanfront rentals face the Atlantic—you get direct ocean views, the sound of waves, and typically the fastest access to the beach. Bayside rentals face the Assawoman Bay, offering calmer water, stunning sunset views, and proximity to marinas and bayside dining.

Where can I find luxury rentals in OCMD?

You can find luxury rentals in Ocean City, concentrated in oceanfront buildings and select midtown and North OC properties. Look for listings that call out premium finishes, updated kitchens, high-floor views, and upscale furnishings.

How far in advance should I book an Ocean City vacation rental?

For peak summer weeks (mid-July through early August), booking 4–6 months in advance is a smart move—especially for oceanfront units, large group houses, or specific resort properties. Shoulder season (June, late August, September) offers more flexibility, but the most desirable rentals in Ocean City go quickly regardless of timing.

Are there monthly rentals in Ocean City, MD?

Yes. There are monthly rentals in Ocean City, particularly in the shoulder and off-seasons (fall through spring). These are popular with snowbirds, remote workers, and anyone looking to experience OC outside the summer rush—often at significantly lower rates.

Where can I find waterfront rentals in OCMD?

You can find waterfront rentals in Ocean City spanning both sides of the island. Oceanfront properties sit directly on the Atlantic side, while bayside and bayfront rentals face the Assawoman Bay. West Ocean City also offers true waterfront options near the marina areas.

Are there Ocean City rentals near the Boardwalk?

Yes—Ocean City rentals near the Boardwalk are some of the most popular and sought-after in OCMD. Downtown and inlet-area condos put you within walking distance of the full Boardwalk experience—dining, rides, shops, and the beach—without needing a car for any of it.
