The two families who met up at Stern Deck Retreat to celebrate New Year's together had a wonderful stay! There was plenty of room, which was great because we had five children with us, ranging in age from 11 years to 11 months, so everyone could spread out when we needed to, but the set-up was warm, welcoming, and accommodating for when all of us wanted to be together as well. The house is very secluded, so it was perfect for relaxing, but also within relatively easy distance from various points of scenic enjoyment. We took day trips into Paso Robles and also San Simeon and Cambria during our trip. All in all, we were all deeply satisfied with the experience.

Since the house is not right next to town, do some meal planning ahead of time and bring enough food to keep you stocked through your trip. We did, and had everything we needed because of it. A trip to the store from the house is a bit of a trek, so some careful forethought will make your stay much more relaxing. In addition, it's a rental, so there isn't a wide variety of kitchen implements like large pots, baking sheets, etc. We brought extra items from home, since we've stayed in rental houses with large groups before and know that bringing supplemental things from home is often wise.

Also, just so you're aware, the house does not have a DVD player. This is in no way a problem, but I thought I'd mention it since we had brought DVDs with us for our stay, and we just didn't have the equipment to watch them.

I would absolutely recommend Stern Deck Retreat to others. It really felt like a retreat while we were staying there!
